I had the night off work and some extra money, so I braved the snow and went to the tapings last night in Albany. Here's some stuff I can try to add:

- Shannon Moore's outfit's pretty loud. Slutty red with mirrors. Think, "It's check-out time!" Shawn Michaels meets Mork from Ork.
- Melina, Nitro and Matthew's company, enters the ring by doing a split on the apron and sliding UNDER the bottom rope. I have a feeling that will get over like Stacy's bend.
- Nitro and Matthew's finishing move is a flapjack-DDT combo.
- One of the Bashams gives Holly a full nelson during the match. Psychology, perhaps?
- I was kind of surprised Nunzio won. He won on a pinfall-reversal sequence.
- Yes, London wears the rat coat! I wish I'd made a 'Paul London Is Murder' sign. Speaking of which, Nitro and Matthews had on minks. London won with the Shooting Star Press.
- Cena's opening promo was actually decent. He talked how he was a man of the people who used to pay to watch wrestling. It set-up the social clash angle they're obviously going with the title match.
- It's funny seeing, during Eddie's match, the low-rider suddenly roll away, via chain or driver I wasn't sure. It's like he accidentally left it in neutral or Herbie went bananas.
- Heidenreich actually won via DQ. He brought a chair in, but the ref took it from him. Booker then gave him a DDT on the chair.
- The Shawn/Kurt brawl WAS pretty wicked. EVERYONE thought it was HBK under the hood, but it was just some scrawny guy with a shaved head whose name I can't remember. It wasn't until the replay that I saw Shawn's cameraman disquise. He had on sort of a Beatles bowl cut and a moustache like Stan's dad on South Park. During the brawl, HBK superkicks a cop. I thought he'd get arrested, but they just tossed him from the building. Michaels had this great crazy look on his face. I'm now really interested in their WM match.
- JBL's promo was also pretty phenomenal. He talked about how he was a wrestling God and the most recognizable name in the world. He also threw in some conservative welfare philosophy on how people like Cena come from drunken, broken homes, people live drunken, broken lives to copy him, and people like Bradshaw have to support him. The crowd was ready to kill him.
- Angrily leaving after the promo, he tells Orlando to win the US Title or OJ will have to, and I'm quoting here, "go back to the hood with HIS people." Surprised they just came out and acknowledged the racial tones of the feud(Rich vs. poor representing black vs. white).
- The mixed tag had three reasons for existence for me: 1) Getting to see my honey Dawn live. 2) Michelle actually busting out a kip-up and cartwheel. 3) After getting the tag-in, Show DOES THE FRENCHIE DANCE!! After the dance, it's a chokeslam and it's over. Any chance Joy will be jealous, or did she get him to be Michelle's partner?
- During the exterior shot of the Pepsi, you see Carlito shoveling. A car passes by and splashes him. Sort of funny, relevant, and a use for that shot!
- Two observations about Orlando: 1) With hair, he now actually LOOKS like JC Watts. I'm not sure if that's intentional or not. Jim Ross, the Sooner mark he is, could have had a hand in planning that. 2) During OJ's entrance video, there's this clip of him tracing an O and J in the air with his finger over a prone opponent. The letters are highlighted by a glow for an effect like a 4th of July sparkler or Tinkerbell. That was humorous to me for some reason.
- You can guess OJ's method of victory: Bashams come down the aisle to distract Cena. JBL comes through the crowd and whacks Cena with a belt(JBL's or Cena's, I didn't catch).
- Three notes from the dark match: 1) While hiding outside the ring after Taker's entrance, you can see Tazz was now wearing JBL's hat(Bradshaw must have lost it during his interference in the prior match). Kind of funny. 2) While removing his shirt and tie to get ready to wrestle, Chimel announces that JBL wants complete silence as he undresses, which is what a God deserves. Awesome. 3) Maybe he's always kept doing this and I never noticed, but when making his final exit, Taker raises the fist in that way he did in the ChopperTaker days.

Pretty good show. I need to run by Wal-Mart tonight and buy some cassettes to tape this.

Sounds like a solid show on paper.

My question is: where is Angle when his "boys" are arguing each week? It appears that he has distanced himself from them since right before No Way Out.

All right, I know that each show has different bookers... BUT still: Edge jobs clean to Shawn to protect Shawn for his non-title match against Angle, yet Cena lays down for Orlando to drop his title prior to taking on JBL at Mania?

Why oh why would it not have made sense for these situations to be reversed? Smackdown could have really benefited from a US Title tournament following WM. Instead they give the title to Jordan who has repeatedly lost to Cena and been put over no one at all really. I just don't see the sense in it.

Also, I'm a bit disappointed that there doesn't seem to be any Orton-Taker follow up from Monday, but maybe that will be taped and inserted into the broadcast.

HBK is a former 4-time World Champion and has the power of Jesus behind him. He can't be beaten clean.

Jordan has the power of JBL and the Bashams (who ALL interfered) behind him. It's Cena dropping the belt after taking the Cabinet on 4-on-1 and losing. Duh. They're protecting Cena and giving him extra ammo in the feud.

If Orlando and JBL don't at least "celebrate" next week by getting that damn spinning thing off of Cena's U.S. title (or I guess Orlando's now), they're missing a golden opportunity. Something along the lines of Mr. Perfect and The Genius ruining Hogan's belt in 1989, although this time, it's just "modifying" the belt to make it look more respectable.

It DOES sound like a good show, though....

I bet it was DOUG. Doug vs Hardcore is the best fake Velocity feud not involving Akio.

That sounds like Simon and Swinger's old "Problem Solver". I love that move.

On the subject of Cena dropping the U.S. title, it bothers me not only because OJ hasn't done squat to deserve it, but also because it's what they always do when the world champ is feuding with someone who's holding a title before their PPV match.

Examples: Austin costing Benoit/Jericho the tag belts before their triple threat match at KOTR '01.

HHH costing RVD the I-C belt before their Unforgiven '02 match.

I'm sure there are other examples.

But on the plus side, it puts more heat on the Cena/JBL match and frees up the US title for a match at WrestleMania. The good outweighs the bad here.

I see Orlando Jordan getting the US belt as a plus only if that Mania match is against Rey Mysterio, but then that negative is it leaves Eddy with little to do himself.

*sigh*

I hate Mania speculation, but it never stops me from getting wrapped up in it...

I was expecting Cena to drop the US title before ‘Mania. It makes no sense to have the brand’s secondary title tied up in the main-event. This gives them a few weeks to set up a challenger for the belt and a small feud running into Mania. Either Booker or Big Show could be good candidates for this, or maybe some of the folks who’ve been mired in Velocity Hell (Haas or Holly being likely candidates).

I was wondering where Johnny Nitro went to.

And Joey Matthews is back? I wonder how long they'll keep him around this time.

Speaking of Joey Matthews, I wonder if he's still dating Alexis Laree. The WWE signed her to a developmental contract back in 2003, but I don't see her on the OVW site anymore.

Well, or it makes no sense to beat the world title challenger a month before the PPV if you don't have to, or it makes no sense to give Orlando Jordan a Wrestlemania match, or who cares about a U.S. title match if Orlando Jordan is in it. JBL defacing the blinged belt is a good angle though.

I'm as big a Paul London fan as the next guy, but there's no way. It looks like they are setting him up to challenge Chavo for the cruiser title, and at this point I will take that - a six week build to a WM title match for a guy who is mired in Velocity hell most of the time is a pretty good step up.

As for the US title, I have no idea where they go from here. Perhaps they will copy Raw and do the multi-man clusterf*** match with all the midcard guys who should be on the card but they have no ideas for.

The list on the OVW site is a bit out of date (it even says that it's up-to-date as of December 2003). Laree has recently come back to OVW after being off for a few weeks to get implants and has had a couple of matches. She also appeared in last week's episode walking through the audience, collecting money for the local charity.

What about Orlando against Big Show? Or Booker? I don't think either of those guys have much to do (although I did read that rumor about Akebono-Big Show again this week) so it least it would give one of them a title match...

A multi-man match sounds about right. Gotta get as many WM paydays as possible.

When you’re talking about Smackdown, there’s really not that many wrestlers to care about that could have taken the belt off of Cena. OJ’s a logical choice to move the US belt onto. He’s the champion’s right-hand man, so he’s higher-profile than most others on the roster. He’s already a player in the Cena/JBL feud. He only won the belt because of interference from the champion, giving Cena more motivation going into his Mania match (JBL has now cost Cena his belt, so Cena will just have to take JBL's). Meanwhile, you can quickly serve OJ up to one of the other upper-midcarders to move the belt again, like Booker T or even Big Show, and you’ve got a new side-feud once CCC comes back.

I mean, really, who else was there on the heel side that they could pass the belt onto? Heidenreich? Reigns? One of the Bashams? OJ's not much, but he's easily a better choice than any of those.

Well I'm glad I wasn't the only one that thought Benoit looked like crap tonight, because it was making me feel really weird. Cade/Hardy was the easy match of the night and might end up winning match of the week unless Batista and Val tear it up on Heat.
