Shaw is running ads for Wrestlemania locally here now, and two things stick out.

"legend killer" Randy Orton, will battle the Undertaker.

Special Appearance by Stone Cold Steve Austin.

This is the first ive heard of either of these, did i miss something, or is this new?

The Austin appearance was pretty much confirmed last week. It's time to start plugging "The Longest Yard".

I don't understand this Taker/Orton thing. it sounds like something they are just throwing together.

Legend Killer gimmick = Randy Orton

Undertaker = Undefeated at Wrestlemaina and also considered "A Legend"

Randy Orton + Undertaker = A suggestion by the Legend "Superstar" Billy Graham{sp?} to Orton to do something for everbody to remember at Wrestemania if you missed RAW tonight.

Dave Meltzer said UT-Orton was an idea being thrown around for WM. I guess it has gone past the idea stage.

Keller says they've already started filming vignettes for the match.

If Orton wins that match, will people applaud that Taker put over someone young or complain that it was Orton?

Famous Players is running WrestleMania 21 ads already.

The usual suspects are covered: JBL/Cena, HHH/Batista, Angle/HBK, Undertaker/Orton & "A Special Appearance by Stone Cold Steve Austin"

We also ran ads for No Way Out showcasing JBL vs. Big Show beginning before the Rumble even aired.

I'd say these matches are all but set in stone.

Interesting idea, but they'd better start putting together a justification quickly. With Michaels/Angle already on the card as a 'dream match', UT/Orton will not look special at all unless they can come up with an angle between the two. Another 'hey Teddy, I challenge so-and-so for WrestleMania' isn't going to cut it.

And I have no interest in seeing Orton snap Undertaker's WM streak. Orton's had less heat than the Yukon at night in February since he dropped the title, and I think if you're going to break UT's record you do it to try and put someone on the rise over the top...you don't do it as a desperate attempt to rejuvenate a stagnant character.

After Graham's suggestion, Orton said something about thinking along the same lines, and then we see he's reading Smackdown magazine--with Taker on the cover. Oooooooohhh!

I think Rick Scaia had it right--Orton snapping Taker's streak would be a good angle for NEXT year if they build to it well. But it would be too soon for this year.

This might be an interesting match-up if the winner wouldn't be so obvious. I am really not a fan of this undefeated-streak-legacy, since it just turns out to be annoying and seems all forced as of now. But hey, it gives both a (more or less) meaningful match, so it's fine with me.

Seriously, does anyone really think Taker will lay down for Orton, or anybody for that matter at Mania?

The best Orton could hope for might be a double DQ, or maybe Taker gives him a handshake of mutual respect.

I foresee Orton doing the job at Mania to the Streak, and then turning heel and switching to Smackdown, obsessed with maintaining his legacy as a Legend Killer and consumed with trying to beat Taker.

I see no problem whatsoever with Orton being booked as the guy to end Taker's streak. If he wins and turns heel, then gets drafted to SmackDown, it could turn him into the top-level heel that he could've been were it not for the dumbass booking of the last six months. Why not?

Orton needs to win this match, and Orton needs to turn heel. He might also need to go to Smackdown. If, that is, they want him to be a top star in the coming years.

The thing that bothers me is that this could have been a VERY special match. "Legend vs. Legend Killer." As the number four match, that is a great match. At least it would have been if they would have planned ahead, started the build earlier, and made this a match to remember. But they didn't.

I don't have much doubt that Mania will be a good show, but I just think that the build to it has been lazy and thrown together.

I have a little trouble with Orton happily taking the advice of legend Graham to continue his legend-killer angle against Taker. He has no current feud. Why not sow the seeds of heeldom now by giving Graham some attitude?

Agreed. I'm sure it will end up being a good show, but it certainly does not have that feel of the last few years. Over the past four WMs they've done a good job building the matches well in advance so that the show really felt like a payoff to a lot of things. Instead, this reminds me of WM 2000 where everything was kinda slapped together last minute and, while it made for an above average show, it didn't have that feel that Mania should have.

So far we know of four matches, there is speculation on a fifth (Jericho's match), but I couldn't even guess beyond that what might round out the lineup. There's no excuse for that. If they'd put half as much thought into the card as they must have for those movie spoofs, I think there'd be a lot more anticipation for this show.

Orton could become the top level heel on Smackdown. Whereas on RAW, he's hovering just above the mid-card face status.

He's just a natural heel.

In this day and age when PPVs are more common, even more common then last year, build ups are very hard to do. This Mania certainly has good build. HHH v Batista has been buliding since last Decemeber, only ME that comes close in recent years is Lesnar/Angle which also built at that time. HBK/Angle has been building since the Rumble, Cena/JBL to be fair is only building since No Way Out but Cena did F-U JBL afew days after the Rumble. Another thing is that there is still 4 Raws and 5 Smackdowns left which is over normal PPV build, so three matches now and probably another 3 by next week with 3 Raws and 3 Smackdowns left is good build over past Manias compared in my opinion.

Looking back to last year following the Rumble the seeds were sew for three matches Kane/Taker (which didnt even feature the Dead man on TV at all), Lesnar/Goldbereg (Who only interacted at No Way Out and then nothing) and Benoit/HHH/HBK. The WWE title had nothing until Eddie won the title and had 4 weeks with Angle, The only very long build last year was Y2J/Christian which strethed for months.

And if there is to be a Rey/Eddie bout, they already have afew months behind them for a feud. So all things considered this is up there with builds towards Mania.

Yeah, how important are the ratings, really? They still consistently deliver their demographic to the good people at Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo and Lugz, so we shouldn't panic, right?? :(
