I'm thinking about picking it up. Has anyone got it yet?

Terrific, fustrating, awesome, evil. Everything you could ever love about GT and all the things you love to hate. Get it, get it now.

Agreed. Go get it, and get it now. I picked it up Wednesday afternoon, and it is awesome. IMO, it was worth the delays. The game, as usual, looks spectacular, but it looks even more detailed than GT3. Lots of cars, lots of tracks. I ran two laps on the near 13 mile Nurburgring which just left a stupid grin on my face for the rest of the day.

I would say if you really dug the last one, you'll like this too. It's really not all that different unfortuantly. A bit better graphics, more tracks and more cars. Other than that very similar in my view.

Not a bad game, but I don't dig racing games unless they involve lots of crashing like Burnout 3.

I was in Best Buy the other night, and they really made me want to buy it. Of course, they had it hooked up to a widescreen plasma, with two force feedback steering wheel joysticks.

Then I sat down and played it, and it didn't do anything for me. It's a shame, because it looks so good, but I just get nothing from it.

I think the Gran Turismo games are tough to get to like, because they are tough to learn if you don't actually know how to drive. My nephews would were 12 could win at the cheesier driving games but could NEVER get the GT games down, back in the day, because you can't just blast through the corners no matter what car you have. And the gameplay, while good, isn't perfect. How they can not incorporate some damage into the game I don't know, but I'd think you could have to spent dome dough to fix your car after you slam it into a wall or a competitor's car.

(OTOH, I was able to win a race last night using the tried-and-true "go way too hard into the corner and bounce off the other guy to pass and win"-strategy last night. I love that.)

All that said, I bought GT 4 and LOVE IT. The 16-level license test is a bit much but took me only an hour, and I bought a '90 CR-X and I've won the Sunday Cup, the FF Challenge, and the Japanese series I was eligible for. Whoever made the Hong Kong curcuit is EVIL.

I also REALLY like the "A-spec points". Before if you built up a car that was too good for a series you wouldn't know until you won by a huge margin, and with the A-spec points there to say "of course you're going to win, look at your CAR, only 5 points for you, pussyboy," well, that's replay value, my friend.

I wouldn't give NASCAR 2005 up for this, but it's still REALLY GREAT and will be in the rotation of games I play.

re: car damage

The skuttlebutt on all the gaming sites back in the day would say that the car companies won't allow damage on their cars. An image thing, I guess.

Aye the feeling that beating someone like that gives you- beating someone with that tactic just as they're turning to finish the final lap after they have left you hopelessly in second place for most of the race- thats a big part of the payoff in this game. I call it "platforming" (ahem, ok thats enough)
