After reading that interview I think I really need to go back and watch the first season again, because I must have missed some of the obvious points he talks about.

All triple posting aside, this was a hell of an episode and stressful at the same time. Ben Hawkins now has all of the power and Samson on his side. While Brother Justin has taken another transformation and has Scudder on the way. Samson shows once again he ain't no rube and a tough bastard that can more than hold his own when push comes to shove. The phantom carny trailor shows up again and was able to give Samson some peace, but what was with the fetus that was in the jar when he entered but gone when he left? I had a feeling this is exactly where Sophie would end up and as a maid at that. This can't be good.

I'm wondering if they are just going to play this whole thing out this season, because this episode sure seemed like a good place to end a season and I see no ads on HBO saying this is going to end anytime soon.

After these last 2 episodes, I'm pretty convinced that we're wrapping up this season. We certainly are flying along! I liked the detail-oriented pace of season 1 much better, but if going fast means that we get a conclusion, I'll take what I can get.

Am I the only one who laughed when Ruthie first saw Scudder? "She's gonna think she's seeing another dead guy!" :-) And Iris didn't exactly seem fazed by Justin's "spell", did she? Can't wait to find out just how Justin realises that Sophie isn't just another maid. ;-)

I'm thinking Sophie stumbles across the Ben Hawkins mask, and judging by how fast things seem to be going I'm guessing it will be sooner rather than later.

Sofie being Justin's new maid was telegraphed from about 1000 miles away, but it still was an impressive ending to the show.

BDL - I think you're correct about Sofie discovering the Hawkins mask. That's exactly what's going to happen.

emma - I also think you are correct about the end of this show. They have four episodes left to pull everything together and it feels like they are trying to do that without the benefit of a Season 3.

I am really disappointed that they are moving to 10 PM Eastern next week and thereafter. I am old and have little kids. I get up at 5 AM, I can't stay awake until 11 O'clock! I am going to have to watch the replay on Mondays at 8, dammit.

This week was a very good episode. This felt a lot like the first season. It's a shame that there are only three remaining.

It really feels like they are wrapping this up now. With Ben healing Jonesy, he's got an apostle to assist him with recovering Scudder and dealing with Stroud while he deals with Justin.

I am not so sure about the Iris plotting against her brother line, but it makes sense. Man, did she beat the crap out of that oar! She really wants Justin to be surprised when she outs him and won't have any premature blabbing.

Stumpy gets all the best lines, too - Jonesy's sunburned ass!

Where the heck did I see this? Daniel Knauf was asked the "is the series wrapping up?", & his response was that his vision is for 6 seasons total, in a 2-season-each trilogy arrangement. So we're kinda heading for the end of the first "book", but he has 4 more seasons' worth of plans. (Now whether HBO cooperates with that plan is another question.)

Bad day to be a vulture, eh?

I'm completely undecided about Iris' conversation with Norman. Whether she's really plotting against Justin, or whether that was just a strategy to keep Norman under control. Don't know.

I found it very odd that absolutely nothing happened when Justin & Sophie were praying. No visions, no fireworks. At least Sophie finally has a "job description" -- now we just need to sort out what the omega is there to *do*. :-)

I was wondering if that is what he was trying to do when she brounght him breakfast with the flowers. He held her hand for a long time, and it seemed as if he was expecting some kind of result. Which of course gave Norman a good laugh and earned him the brunt of Justin's frustration.

Is that what Justin liked about her?

Boy oh boy are they speeding towards Armageddon here.

I know that it was like an anvil to the skull when Wilfred told Justin that he had to sneak up Scudder to kill him, but it still jump the crap out of me when Justin popped up in the backseat of the car.

The part about Iris and Malthus plotting to overthrow Justin seems like a hurried attempt at a twist. For the first 20 episodes Iris is nothing but supportive of Justin and then out of the blue, she's plotting his overthrow with a guy in a wheelchair? And just as suddenly, Justin says he knows all about it. Hardly seems worth the effort of even writing this in.

If Justin sleeps with Sofie, it will really creep me out now, too.

I really expected more of a fight out of Scudder. Maybe that's his deal though ... always being on the run and never wanting to face his powers. However, he had a pretty bloody trail following him.

The look on Justin and Iris's face when they were shown looking out the window in the preview makes me think that Sampson sets up shop right outside of Justin's camp. It would make for quite an image.

Has Iris been aging faster than the rest of the cast or is that my imagination at work?

Is anybody out there still watching this? This looks like it will be a helluva season finale next week. The confrontation between Ben and Justin (with Sofie in the middle) looks to be monumental.

I think it's neat how Justin swoons every time Ben unsheathes the magic knife.

I was also sure I was going to have to look away when the Justin had one of the guards put his hand on the table while the other swung the hatchet.

When Ben was skulking around the house, my skin was absolutely crawling in anticipation of a confrontation.

I give this show extremely high marks.

Or right inside the camp, e-ven! Go, Iris! :-)

(Sorry I was AWOL -- I was away from HBOs & DVRs & got behind briefly. Back now.)

This is such good storytelling! Is Sophie not positioned just about perfectly in the middle between Ben & Justin? And I still don't exactly know what Iris' position is -- which I love. Jonsey appearing just in time to keep Ben from being stupid really should have been corny, but wasn't! This is beautiful stuff.

I was glad that Gabriel didn't (have to) tell his Ben story too. After all, that would have broken his promise. Testament according to Clayton, according to Samson, according to Gabriel...

Didn't expect Elanor to pop up again. Excellent timing! And for Justin to have covered it as a *suicide* is fascinating. (Is is a bad thing that I really *like* Iris? :-) )

Do we think that Daniel Knauf actually talked HBO into airing the last episode of this season on Easter? Coincidence? Hmmm. :-)

((BTW, anybody else notice we got an icon on the threads list page? Kewl.))

I've caught bits and pieces of the show, and it looks interesting from what I've seen...and the midget trips me out. I wonder what use it would be to start watching now so late in the second season??

Well, seeing as how there's only one episode left, which appears to be the series finale, it probably wouldn't do much good to start watching now. ;)

Buuuut... Season 1 is currently available on DVD, season 2 certainly will be at some point, & I presume DVD sales & rentals may factor into HBO's decision to renew. (The series creator says that he has 6 seasons planned -- so there's more, even though we're rockin' toward the end of this season. It's just up to HBO whether they want to cooperate or not.)

Starting with the last episode probably wouldn't provide the richest viewing experience though. :-)

I'm really looking forward to seeing Samson and the other Carnies meeting Brother Justin in his own house.

Remember earlier in the season, I think episode 2, when Ben saw Sophie wandering around on the road and first saw the tatoo man. Also Sophie mentioned that if she ever saw her father she would kill him. Add that to the fact that Justin had to sneak up on Scudder to get his power. Does Sophie accidently get his power by surprising Justin and actually slaying him in the showdown? It may be a stretch, but ...
