Originally posted by The Fleet Center Website, 2/16/05- Delaware North Companies, owner and operator of Boston's FleetCenter, announced today that they have reached agreement with Golden Palace Casino on a single-day naming rights deal to re-name the world-class sports and entertainment arena the 'GoldenPalace.comCenter.' All net proceeds from Golden Palace Casino's winning bid of $35,099 via online auction site eBay will benefit Boston area charities. The deal will both go into effect and expire on Wednesday, February 16, 2005.
Can't find any of the other winning bidders for the auctions that have closed, but they have also added March 1st to the list of days available, so they must be extending it a bit longer.
If I was the Golden Palace, I would ask for my money back ... I watched the Celtics game on TV last night (boo-yah Ricky Davis!) and NOT ONCE was the "new" name of the arena mentioned.
Now, I don't know if that was due to the web site's "checkered past", or if the announcers had decided beforehand to just keep calling it the FleetCenter regardless of who won the auction, but I'm sure a big part of that 33 thousand bucks was the free TV publicity ... of which there was none.

Mention of the name on television was not the part of the terms of sale The arena would have no way to require any TV announcer to use the name, especially if the announcers(specifically the home team announcers) are contracted to a team that does not own the building.
So, what's the point? Seems like a great waste of $33,000 to me. Especially since they could have used it for, I don't know, the down payment on a house or something.

And let's not forget the THOUSANDS they paid for the "Jesus In A Grilled Cheese Sandwich" and the ad space on Shaune Bagwell's chest...as well as the countless numbskulls who run on camera at sporting events with the website scrawled all over themselves (remember the Olympic "diver"?).
