Finally, Raw was a great show.

BUT just to play devil's advocate and focus on the negative:

I love the women's matches, but Molly's makeover makes her look like Rosanna Arquette's skank cousin. That hair! Looked like some transvestite's bad wig.

Would the old nWo ever threaten anyone by saying, "I'll SUE you!"?

The opening UT-Austin-Flair segment went on way too long. And in a related issue:

I'm just sick and tired of Austin's played-out camera-hogging, time-wasting act. And of course for some reason everybody has to kiss his butt. Why? His veritable squash of Hall AND X-Pac made me want to put a brick through my TV. Think Steve booked that one himself? This show, which was interesting and fun and fast-paced, proved that you don't even need Austin to put on good TV programs.

The Taker/RVD match should have been saved for PPV, in my opinion. Imagine someday if Taker is the Undisputed Champ and RVD is pushed to fight him for the title at Wrestlemania. A 30-minute match like last night would be *****.

We can dream.

Molly is great. Bubba is great. The WWF has made a believer out of me with Raw. I'm loving the show. But you know who the most boring person on the whole damn roster is to me?

Steve Austin. Talk about stale acts...he's staler than the Hardyz. He supposedly went on strike to lobby for better character direction and THIS is what he wanted? Another bore-ass "throw-me-into-the-steps" PPV match with Taker? Don't get me wrong, I'm really digging Taker these days. I think Austin is the weak link in the feud.

I'm with ya there! I just have zero interest in Austin anymore. Lately he's ranking a bit over Bossman for me as far as the Raw roster goes. I didn't care for him much in '98-'99 either. When he's face they make him out to be too super-human, and it gets sickening. At least the Rock gets beat down and defeated on a regular basis to keep things interesting. The only time in recent memory I really enjoyed him was when he was Alliance Leader Austin. He was gold then. In the ring, and in his promos and vignettes. And he lost too! Too bad he got too many cheers so it was aborted. They only way we will be able to get a truly heel Austin is if they completely change his character (make him Stunning again, maybe?) so the fans won't be tempted to cheer him. Unfortunately, with the split he's the top face (for Raw at least) so we will be getting this stuff for a long time to come.

I missed most of Raw (game was on) and just about all of SmackDown (delayed for baseball, didn't care to hunt down the replay based on spoilers) last week, so I basically had to sit out the first week of Brand Extension. I have to say, going by the terrible balance in rosters, my expectations for Raw were pretty low. It ended up being way better than I had any reason to believe. Not an all-timer, but I could live with this if its the new Raw and they tighten up a few things. They're doing a lot with a little.

The opening yakfest didn't do much for me, but it was a necessary evil to set up the stereo #1 contender for #1 contender matches. What wasn't necessary was intentionally making the stipulations of these two matches (when the winner faces the winner) confusing. And since they brought it up, I can only assume they were being intentionally confusing for no reason other than some inside joke. Flair avoiding the KICK WHAM was pretty funny. I don't think this is setting up heel Flair vs. face Austin so much as just reiterating that "Oh, Austin, you so crazy!" thing. Austin saying "'Cuz yer dead?" was funny, too.

I'm not crazy about the Buh Buh Ray push over some other people (Booker), but he's the right guy for the Hardcore division and for Raw and I think it'll be good in the long run. D-Von's probably the better wrestler and probably won't get to show it on SmackDown, but that's another Brand. I think they have the right guys to make Buh Buh's push work. Booker's not one of them, though - don't they have anything for him to do? Throw him up to the top as a heel, or better, turn him.

I sort of connect this with the second title feud on Raw, Regal and Spike for the Euro belt. This isn't the best match-up either. I don't really care for Spike (I can't explain it, he just looks like a tiny Jack Black or something), but I just think they can do something else here. And I think they will - Regal's gotten taken out with his brass knuckles two times in a row now...and Spike just re-united with his brother, the hardcore champion. I think we're going to see a tradeoff, with Regal protesting weapons in matches and sliding into the Hardcore division to be Buh Buh's PPV nemesis for the Hardcore strap. I don't know how good that would be, but I'd like to see Regal try to hide the knuckles even though he's in a hardcore match. It just seems like something he'd do. I don't know what that would leave for Spike, though.

They don't seem to know what to do with Regal overall, but I think they could have solved two problems by turning Booker (anyone can turn vs. Regal, he's that good a character) and letting Booker vs. Regal elevate the Euro title. Booker's one of the guys I think they have who matches up with the Regal style, and it would make for some great matches and promos. It's a feud I'd like to see.

The other thing they could have done is use D-Lo (what happened to his WWF Raw Party). I'm not a major D'Lo fan, but I liked him and I think he can slip into a feud with Spike (D. Lo claiming to be the greatest Euro champ), Regal or heel Booker (it would just make for a good match) or, maybe best of all, add him later on as the third man in the Frog Splash war with Eddy and RVD. Whatever you think of D Lo, he's a great guy to plug into any of their lower to mid card feuds. Again, they can do a lot with a little.

Eddy vs. RVD, on just two weeks without any Eddy matches, is already super cool. Also super cool? That UT vs. RVD match. When UT walked out, I'll admit I was thinking "Ha ha, this match can't last longer than a minute now! I'm so smart and funny!" I wuz wrong. Really cool match with all those "1,2,Johnny Ace!" moments that helped RVD. Hebner kind of screwed things up by looking right at RVD and Eddy when they were trading punches on the floor, but Eddy ignoring that and doing the great belt-shot-no-I'm-still-hurt thing for the finish was still awesome. UT, RVD and Eddy all made this work, I really liked it. I think the only thing that could have made it better would have been on the second (and final) Last Ride attempt, RVD being up for the drop and doing the Points To Self anyway right before getting knocked out.

I'll admit to not caring about and largely ignoring the women's matches, but that was a great segment, too. That was a nice match with neat spots and I liked the ending with Molly using a superflouos complicated pinning maneuver on the knocked out Trish. Reminded me of when Bret would cheat to knock guys out in WCW, then put the the KO'ed guy on top of him when the ref recovered just so he could kick out. I love that stuff.

I'm not buying Bradshaw as a top guy. I just can't do it. Same with X-Pants. I guess this leads to Kane/Bradshaw vs. nWo (minus Nash) at Backlash. Unlike most, I'm not really crazy about the new wacky cheap face pop Kane, but I still like him and think he can match up fine with othes, so him at the top is cool. Bradshaw should have been horrified and ran away screaming when he saw Kane's unmasked face. And Nash gets suspended but Hall gets to keep his #1 contender match? They could have handled that better. I dunno, I can live with this stuff if Kane doesn't lose the mask because I think it's transitional while they sort things out. Bradshaw ended his night brawling with UT, so I have a feeling that Austin wins at Backlash and gets the title shot next month, while UT and Bradshaw move into the Hoss vs. Hoss showdown they've been hinting out for a while. I don't know where that leaves Hall. I assume X-Pac gets some pants out the whole thing.

The last match didn't do much for me, but it wasn't because they didn't try. Hall of today and Austin just don't seem to connect. It was a longish match that I think set up a few things for Backlash and beyond, though, so hey, not the worst way to end the night.

The other big thing that I really liked was the second half of the Lesnar segment. I hated hated hated the first half, with Heyman (I still say he's too big to be Lesnar's manager) yakking. He's out there talking about himself for two minutes. Man, you've got a guy next to you who can eat a Chrysler and fight a tank with his bare hands and win, talk about HIM. HIM. Once the Hardys showed up, though, it got fun. Those chairshots were crazy, and the Hardys are the guys to bump for Lesnar (Perfect, too - picture Lesnar throwing him around the ring with Perfect doing the flip sell, and Lesnar no-selling the Perfect flipping neck breaker). I want a Brock match now, though. There's a reason why he's getting the Hardys - Matt is going to nail a twist of fate. Jeff is going to do a Swanton. Brock is going to punch Matt's head off and then hit Jeff with his own Swanton. The crowd is going to die. It will be neat.

So anyway, they made Raw fun and I didn't expect that. And it can get better, too, if they put a few guys together and build on some momentum. I didn't think they could make Raw watchable. I liked it.

and another two things:

What's up with Lesnar's right ear? It looked like he had a hearing aid in it (which is impossible, right?)

AND

Can't stand it when wrestlers get a cheap face pop by doing some goofy dance. I'm not digging Bubba's push, especially when Booker's being ignored.

We just had a Taker/RVD PPV match last winter, for the Hardcore title. It was also very cool, and also had Taker making his awesome bug-eyed faces.

One other thought which I had but neglected to mention is that while "Freaks kick ass" rocks my world, and I would buy that shirt in a heartbeat, I want to throw something at my tv everytime Kane says "Kaneanites" I know certain wrestlers have messainic complexes, but really do we need to go old testament for our promos Just call the fans freaks and they'll dig it. I did anyhow. But please, for the love of Isaac Yankem I'm begging him to stop using that goofy term.

His ear is cauliflowered from being an amateur wrestler.
same with the buzz cut. His tits are because he's on the gas.
His inability to cut promos while people are booted from Tough Enough for not having mic skills is what truly baffles me. I thought they were training "sports entertainers", not wrestlers. Geeeeez.

What I liked about RAW:

-Spike Dudley wins the Euro title in 4 seconds thanks to the brass knuckles. Hopefully this finally puts an end to the "Power of the Punch".

-Undertaker/RVD while not the most technically proficent match, was fun to watch. I think it would of been better for RVD to win as a swerve, because I really don't want to see yet another UT/Austin matchup.

-However, I am looking forward to an RVD/Eddie Guerrero match, where I expect Eddie to win. His last IC title reign in Fall 2000 was hampered by injury, and then the incredibly stupid idea of jobbing him to Billy Gunn (I saw that match live, nearly ruined the whole evening). RVD is over with or without a title. The crowd hates Eddie without a title, and will really hate him if has a nice long IC title reign constantly cheating to keep the title. Here's hoping that happens.

-Molly Holly is hot.

-Brock Lesner and his mana...er agent Paul Heyman interview segment was great. I fully expect Brock Lesner to destroy the Hardy Boyz at Backlash, which is the best way to use the Hardy Boyz right now. Then feed mid-card and lower-card people to Brock for a few months building him up as an unstoppable force. Hope the WWF doesn't mess this up.

Whit I didn't like about RAW:

-The WHAT? is offically past being annoying, and is now to the point of screwing up promos. They need to find a way to deprogram the fans from saying "What?" all the time, but the WWF doesn't seem to want to, and even if they did it might be too late: It would be like trying to close Pandora's box.

-Great investment with the nWo. Now your down to Hall & X-Pac, and the "poison" is feuding with Kane and Bradshaw. The only way I can see them pumping any life into the nWo would be to put Shawn Michaels in, but at best HBK would provide only a temporary boost to the nWo.

-Yippie, Kane/X-Pac again. That feud was interesting in 1999. Someone please tell the WWF that it's 2002. Though I do like the Kane with a personality now.

-Perfect vs. Big Show- Time to change Mr. Perfect to Mr. Jobber. At least do an angle where Perfect grows more and more pissed off with each loss and finally unloads on some hapless wrestler one night. Some how I doubt that's going to happen.

-Hall/Austin was a very weak main event. Austin didn't feel like working, and Hall can't work anymore. All the run-ins didn't help, and in the end made the nWo look even worst.

-Where the hell was Triple H? The PPV is two weeks away, and the least they can do is have HHH cut a promo and hype the Title match. The WWF shouldn't assume that HHH/Hogan is going to sell itself. They got lucky with Rock/Hogan, but why tempt faith?

-Overall I'd say Raw was a thumbs in the middle show.

Oh, there is another way. A better way. He wears mesh on his head and has a mush mouth. A Scott Steiner run in at Backlash, followed by a nice beatdown and tagging of Bradshaw, would be really fun and give the nWo a bigger boost than Michaels would.

Now I'm ticked...I missed what sounded like the first awesome womens division match in awhile. I guess I will have to catch a recap and photos somewhere else. I will say though that the division seems to have redeemed itself after falling short last week with the start of the split. Jazz had a couple good matches on Jakked and Heat, and the Trish-Molly T&A build-up last Monday was probably not so bad in retrospect. Hopefully though Trish will be getting the title again. I'll have to see what Molly looked like last night, but I seriously doubt she will ever beat Trish in that department. Thus, Trish rules.

That's a Smackdown! match. If they want us to believe that the companies are split (which they do), then they should cut as many references to the other show as possible. Obviously there was some need, because they had to explain why Taker wasn't getting the shot, but past that, there shouldn't be.

I expect that HHH will be on Smackdown almost wholly until his angle with Hogan has run it's corse. Then he'll switch over to the Austin/Taker winner and RAW.

First and formost that womens match rocked all houses. They always have good matches together. I'm digging Trish's standing handstand to flip, and Molly is always awesome. And the ending was sweet, that shot with the and bump afterwards by Trish was nasty-cool. Thumbs up all the way (too bad lita returns next week to ruin it all). Wow both girls pulled good promos backstage (take notes Lita, I think Jazz commentary is more understandable then Lita talks)

RVD v. Undertaker was great as well, Taker really give a lot to Van Dam (which is nice to see) My opinion on the deadman has really been changing since WrestleMania (not saying I like him, but I don't hate him like I did before). RVD is the whole f errrr damn show. He's amazing.

I usually hate the huge guy killing your tag team wrestlers, but how I've been feeling about the Hardyz recently, let the squashing continue.

What I don't like is anything with the NWO, just my thoughts but they just seem so uninteresting, I don't care about Xpac or Hall and Nash is gone, was he ever here?

All in all a solid effort by the Raw crew.

It's official, I hate Stone COld Steve Austin. I don't understand how people can complain that the Hardyz are stale when Austin's been playing the same character since 1996! And even an admitted Sports Entertainment fan like me could tell that the main event blew monkey spank! At this point I'd rather see Austin retire than Hogan.

Speaking of the Hardyz, I admit that I'm a fan of theirs, but even I'm enjoying the Lesnar storyline. Of course Paul is a big factor in this (Heyman Rules!) Brock did a good job of staying in character after those chair shots.

Dance Bubba Dance... LOL

I marked out like a six year old when Spike won the European title. I guess I just like underdogs. Hopefully this will put an end to The Power of the Punch.

I saw the Bubba-Spike reunion coming as soon as Bubba turned. Nice to see Tommy Dreamer on TV too.

They've said it before and I'll say it again Molly is f***in' HOT!!! I hate blondes and I love redheads... it's like she read my mind! I have a new favorite female wrestler.

BTW does anybody else notice the similarities between Molly and heel Benoit or Storm... berating the fans for wanting entertainment when she's obviously a better wrestler.

And I saved the best for last... RVD/Taker ROCKED MY WORLD! The only way this could have been better would be if RVD had kicked out of the Last Ride and Taker had Tombstoned him. But that aside everything from the near-falls to Eddie playing possum to THE RETURN OF THE VAN DAMINATOR (pardon me while I mark out) ruled beyond belief.

Molly didn't look *that* good to me. I agree that the hair looked a little like a wig, at least in one of the pictures on the site for RAW. Sure, she's still hella good looking and can wrestle, so its good to see her finally get involved in the division, but you can't seriously say she is finer than Trish (even though I prefer brunettes to blondes). Molly has a "cute and sexy girl you would like to marry" kind of look, but Trish (along with Torrie) has a "I will take you home and make you whimper in the corner like the little boy that you are" look. But maybe I just need to see the match instead of photos.

Oh my, I have finally degenerated into a "My favorite female wrestler looks better than yours" post.

I'm not one to knock people's tastes (my track record has been sub-average to say the least (the very least)), but damn...go out....go to a mall or somewhere with people and you'll see at least one girl/woman/whatever-you're-into who's truly "hotter" than Molly.

With that said, yeah, she was hot, but she just reminded me of Chyna for some reason.
