I think everybody on Gmail got 50, fwiw.

I take it Gmail has given out a bunch more invites in addition to the initial 5 or so they gave out with each new sign-up? Is that a sign of desperation, or a (late) response to how hot these things were a few months ago?
They are probably moving out of Beta, but want to milk their networking for as much as they can. I'm sure they are doing some sort of family tree based on these invites as part of their research into social networks.
Willful ignorance of science is not commendable. Refusing to learn the difference between a credible source and a shill is criminally stupid.

If that's the case, I wonder how they are going to account for the invites that were traded through Fark and other sites like that. That's how I got my original invite and how I got rid of 5 of my original 6 invites. Now, other than ignoring them, I have no clue as to what I'll do with 50 invites.
As an aside, one thing I really like about gmail is the almost nonexistent spam. I still get less spam in that account than in my private work account.

Which is a pointless article in every way. $40 is not a big deal, especially with the differences between the versions. Not that I'm complaining as I love my iPhone and am thrilled with it. But the 3G would be nice, sure.
