So says ESPN's Marc Stein. McHale will take over as interim head coach.

If the Lakers take more than five minutes to call Flip, they're nuts. They just had their next coach fall into their laps.

I never thought the day would come when the man Johnny Most called Sir Kevin the Fourth would be a head coach in the NBA. At least we know Spree won't be able to choke this coach.

I think Kevin McHale absolutely made a bad choice when he decided to fire Flip Saunders. Made an even stupider decision when he said he'd coach the team himself, but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

Saunders does not deserve the blame for what has, so far, been an underwhelming season for the Timberwolves. The reason the T-Wolves are underachieving is because Sprewell and Cassell are greedy bastards who want their contract extensions, want them now, and are more than happy to half-ass it until they get what they want.

And yeah, I'd expect Flip to arrive in Los Angeles relatively soon-- although speaking of greedy bastards...

I think Phil Jackson's next job just opened up.

I think Saunders has been one of the better coaches in the NBA the last few years, but he's not totally blameless here. Some coaches just get tuned out by their players after awhile. The mess up there though also includes the players, McHale, and ownership.

Like NBF said, it wouldn't surprise me at all if Jackson coaches Minny. And like you said, I can see Saunders going to the Lakers.

Nice of McHale to pick a non-televised game to make his debut. Wait, did I say "nice?" Because I meant "suspicious." Or maybe he thought this would get me out to the Target Center and buy a ticket (ha).

Is there a National Blackout rule for Sunday afternoon games that go up against ABC ones? We didn't get in Chicago, and the only other one not airing this season is a similar Sunday afternoon game versus the Clippers (which I'm guessing ABC won't be picking up.)

I was reading on a White Sox fan board where people complain about this, and apparently ABC has an exclusive window on tvbroadcast for NBA games from 12:30-6PM EST on Sundays. Hence us not getting to see the Bulls sweep the T-Wolves for the first time since the Jordan era.

Hmm. The Timberwolves come within a breath of making the NBA Finals, get off to a rough start this year, and the coach gets fired.

The Vikings choke two years ago, back into the playoffs this year, and the coach gets an extension.

Arrgh.
