Seems that there are new sponsors for the national Mens' curling tournament here in Canada; first it was Labatts, then Nokia, now Tim Hortons.
So...I know that the tournament starts in a month, but there is plenty to get excited about, and lots to vent about.
For example: Will Ferbey's rink continue to play the aggressive, flashy play that ended up costing them the Brier last year? It was, of course, with some badly placed shots in the last end of last years final that all but handed the victory to Nova Scotia.
A venting point is that the weekday games will be broadcast LIVE on CBC's digital cable channel, but broadcast after the 11pm news on CBC's basic cable channels. This is something I do NOT like, as I liked the coverage that TSN offered last year.

Agree totally about the TV coverage. TSN kicked butt with all the coverage and the fans are the only ones that have lost out now....
Getting excited about the Championship season.
The KIA Cup (Ontario championships) start today in my hometown of Whitby. There should be some good matchups with:
Wayne Middaugh Glenn Howard Brian Cochrane Peter Corner
Going to probably get some tickets and head down there this week at some point. Anyone in the area, it is at the Iroquois Sports Complex in South Whitby....
Where the wild are strong, and the strong are the darkest ones, you're the Darkest One.
I'm off this weekend, so I'm tempted to get out there. Can you explain how to get there by GO transit or Whitby Transit? If I can make it, let's tip a few back after the games!

Well, there's gonna be a new Brier champ this year.
Nova Scotia's Mark Dacey lost to Shawn Adams 9-6 in the provincial title game earlier today. Adams is a former national junior champ and represented NS at the Brier in '00 and '02.

I can honestly admit that I was NOT impressed with Dacey's play during the Brier finals last year; in fact, the last end made me wonder how the heck either Ferbey or Dacey made it that far. I was hoping for a more strategic end to the game, but both teams went for flash, and it blew up in Alberta's face...but not by Nova Scotia's doing; they both tried to make some gutsy shots that weren't necessary.
