Up north, we're still waiting on Balsac Billy and Wiarton Willy.
EDIT: Wiarton Willy says winter's over.

Thanks for a great season, Pick of the Week fans...see you next year at Planet Magic in Denmark, WI!
Ah yes, the Groundhog Day gimmick:
If he sees his shadow, 6 more weeks of winter. If he doesn't, spring comes on time...in 42 days.
You do the math.
Star wipe, and...we're out. Thrillin' ain't easy.

Oh my god, I've never actually sat down and figured that out. All these years....seriously. How the hell is this stupid tradition still national news?? The only good to come of it was a funny Bill Murray movie.

Actually, spring comes on time if he sees his shadow (or as it's referred more often, "6 more weeks of winter"), but if he doesn't see his shadow, it's an early spring.
The folklore with this was whether the groundhog would come out of hibernation to explore the outside (meaning he was now out of hibernation, signaling the end of winter), but that he could be scared of his own shadow, which would send him scurrying back into his hole, where it would hibernate for another 6 weeks.

Has anyone ever done it? I have a set written up--I have a funny Bam Bam Bigelow joke :). I am wondering how one gets the nerves to do it. I started with 15 min of material, weened down to 5 doing it to co-workers and the wifey.
