I was thinking Edge vs Benjamin, only because they're likely going to keep Orton in the main event. Sadly.
I'd also expect Mysterio-Guerrero, allowing for possibly Benoit and Jericho Vs. La Resistance (I just don't think they'll allow more than two interpromotional matches, as cool as Guerrero-Benoit one year later would be).
Getting back to the Rumble PPV itself, the group of four or so "heel" fans at ringside were awesome. The one guy had some great smarky signs.
Highlights included:
Orlando Jordan is the new VIRGIL
You Must Be This Tall to Rumble (with a ruler to the right of the words)
The crowd overall though stunk. I'm worried that LA will pay the wrestlers no mind at WM just as Fresno did last night. It's a shame because they got to see some great stuff. The crowd did like the comedy though, as did most of us.
WADSWORTH: The games up, Scarlet. There are no more bullets left in that gun. SCARLET: Oh, come on, you don't think I'm gonna fall for that old trick? WADSWORTH: It's not a trick. There was one shot at Mr. Boddy in the study. Two for the chandelier, two at the lounge door, and one for the singing telegram. SCARLET:That's not six. WADSWORTH: One plus two plus two plus one. SCARLET:Nuh, uh. There was only one shot that got the chandelier. That's one plus two plus ONE plus one. WADSWORTH: Even if you are right, that would be one plus one plus two plus one, not one plus TWO plus one plus one. SCARLET:(thinking) Okay, fine. One plus two plus one--(angered) Shut up!

I've seen that guy (blue shirt, red backward cap) in the front rows at a lot of shows. During the LMS match on Smackdown, JBL (I think) took one of his signs away and threw it down.

I swear there was a bright yellow sign just to the right of the main camera view, in the front row, with like a paragraph on it, and in red letters somewhere in the middle it said "WIENERBOARD". Anybody else catch that?

I am probably the only person here that is psyched about the possibility of Kane and 'Taker vs. Heidenreich and Snitsky. I like all 4 guys for different reasons. Every time Snitsky and Heidenreich get together it is Pure. Comedy. GOLD! I seriously want to find a clip online of the Heidenreich-Snitsky love fest from last night.
I didn't see the PPV but probably will rent it Tuesday night if RAW tonight doesn't rehash the whole thing. It sounded like one of the best ones in a long time.
To me, Snitsky and Heidenreich are the "Plan 9 From Outer Space" of the WWE. They're so bad, they're good. I can't help but love them for the schlocky-ness of both their characters.

It's like they're both fighting for who will pick up the mantle of "Most Over The Top Persona Performed Badly" that was dropped by Sid some years ago. And it's been just a joy to watch.
Uneasy lies the head that wears the crown of MASTER AND RULER OF THE WORLD.

I actually had a complete laugh out loud moment when Snitsky said "I don't like caskets either, but I like you John." And Heidenreich responded in kind in between some very heavy breathing. I couldn't tell if they were trying to bury them both or not with that segment and I don't care. I thought it was the most humorous segment that they've done in who knows how long.
Since Orton's "concussion" is supposed to dictate a change in character, I hope they just turn him heel and put him right back in Evolution. Have him attack Batista at some point and go on a rant about how that was supposed to be his spot. It was his destiny, he was supposed to win the rumble, he was supposed to win the title, he was supposed to Main Event Mania, etc. Have him blame Batista, that he was the real reason that he got the boot from Evolution, and have Triple H welcome him back to the fold with open arms.
The crowd last night did not seem particularly receptive to him. I think that would get him more heel heat than they'd know what to do with.

Sounds a bit too much like Edge. I'd rather the concussion make him think he's Kamala, complete with costume, belly slaps and the inability to correctly pin.

LOL ... talk about his career REALLY going down the shitter then ...
If Orton isn't put into the title picture at WM21, I don't know what's in store for him ... he's really lost in the shuffle. He could easily be the top heel on Smackdown if given the chance.
Overall, a Good PPV....The Michaels/Edge match was good, but it never got to that next level to make it "excellent"....Like most have said, the backstage interaction between the wrestlers was great. It's always better at the inter-brand PPV's....'Taker/Heidenreich was not great, but it wasn't a complete travesty either. That's what low expectations will do for you. Heidenreich gently pushing the casket up the aisle, then checking inside it was classic....
The Smackdown Title Match was good, and it's getting tougher and tougher for me to hate JBL....I thought the RAW Title match was good, certainly not as terrible as some people seem to think (because of Orton?). The concussion leaves open the possibility of Orton changing his persona, which he would need to become a full-fledged face. Or he could turn back heel....
The Rumble match had some memorable parts (Hassan v.s Everyone, Benoit v.s Eddy, Puder gets murderized, London's sick bump, Michaels/Angle), but I didn't think the emphasis was properly put on Benoit (and others) lasting as long as they did. And I hated the ending- the double-winner is so played. Thankfully, Vince came out to change that. Oh, and I thought Batista hit first.

You're nuts. The crowd was hot for most of the night. The endings to almost all of the matches completely sucked. Did you not hear the reactions Eddy, Rey, and Cena got? Eddy got a huge chant after he was eliminated.
So, Scotty 2 Hotty won the Royal Rumble. He was never eliminated, and thus since both Cena and Batista took each other out, he's the man.
I LOATHE the stupid booking where one guy shows up but doesn't really get eliminated. It's pointless to fly a wrestler all the way to a show and have him show up for five seconds and not even really compete (within the internal logic of the show).
I'm interested in selling my youngest daughter into slavery as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. She's a Georgetown sophomore, speaks fluent Italian, always cleared the table when it was her turn. What would a good price for her be? While thinking about that, can I ask another? My Chief of Staff Leo McGarry insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly says he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself or is it okay to call the police? Here's one that's really important because we've got a lot of sports fans in this town: touching the skin of a dead pig makes one unclean. Leviticus 11:7. If they promise to wear gloves, can the Washington Redskins still play football? Can Notre Dame? Can West Point? Does the whole town really have to be together to stone my brother John for planting different crops side by side? Can I burn my mother in a small family gathering for wearing garments made from two different threads? Think about those questions, would you? One last thing: while you may be mistaking this for your monthly meeting of the Ignorant Tight-Ass Club, in this building, when the President stands, nobody sits." --- President Jed Bartlett, The West Wing
I watched the ending where Cena and Big Dave went over together. Its clear that Batista's leg/knee hit first. Cena should be the winner. Of course, WWE wants you to think they went over together at the exact same time, but the way it went down makes Cena the winner.
And to the last poster, Scotty 2 Hotty didnt win because he was never IN the ring. The longstanding rule has been if you dont get into the ring before the next guy on the list does, you lose your spot in the rumble. Simon Dean just barely made it in to avoid being eliminated as well. And if you wanna forget that rule, then you should also give HBK the benefit of the doubt because he was eliminated by someone who was already out. That shouldnt count either really.

That's always been a rule they've played fast and loose with. On one hand, there was an already-eliminated Jake Roberts coming back with Damien to scare out Andre in 1989 and a pissed-off Taker tossing Maven in 2002 that were allowed, but there's also been a pissed-off Vader in 1996 coming back to the ring to toss guys over the top (including the eventual winner Michaels), only to have the eliminations by Vader not count by virtue of him already being eliminated. There's other examples as well, but these are just the ones I picked.
So it depends on how they want to book things for that year, since there's never been any consistancy with that rule. But then again, we're talking about a rule in a fake sport.
[EDIT for below post: I'd say it's more the fault of the writers/bookers over the course of the last near-20 years (which you can't single out one person for, natch) for not drawing a line in the sand with their own continuity than it's the fault of the refs, but that's just my $0.02. But if anyone's at fault, ever since Savage had that case of The Stupids in 92 and jumped over the top rope onto Jake Roberts it's been screwy ever since. So if want to blame anyone, blame HIM. :)]

Personally, I blame the referees for not enforcing the rules properly. You have to call the rules of elimination consistently, otherwise the wrestlers take advantage of them.

I noticed the fellow Brits at ringside, mind you it's always easier as the Union Flags and parafanalia were there !
Seems from the 2005 schedule, we are denied another PPV this year. Heck 1992 is SO long ago !
If JR specifincaly picks out the UK staying up so late to watch the shows, you'd think we may get the treat of a major event rather than just the Raw and Smackdown shows again.
(edited by Tretas on 31.1.05 1638) Chris Benoit is here and he's really mad. Chris Benoit is here and he's really an-GRY! Here it is in full the Chris Benoit song. Is there any wrestler who can prove him wrong?!
I remember Juventud using that move a few years back, too. Senor seems to have pulled the same names out for it that I remember: the 450 and the Phoenix Splash. They look really impressive when done right, too.
