Where the hell is my LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES? I've gone to 7 damn comic shops and NONE of them got thier copies of the book. For some damn reason half the country didn't get thies copies and LUCKY ME, Florida seems to be one of the states that got screwed. I hope I can find a copy in Columbus... DAMN YOU DC!!

-----

DC really kicked some ass this past year. They owned 20 out of the top 25 highest selling books of the year, which is pretty damn good for DC considering Wolverine wasn't in a single one of those books. DC also owned the top two highest selling Tpb/Graphic novels with BATMAN: HUSH Vol.#1 and SUPERMAN: RED SON. The two highest charting Marvel books were ULTIMATES Vol.#2 and ULTIMATE X-MEN Vol.#7. It's nice to know that WATCHMEN and KINGDOM COME still sell better then most coming in at #18 and #11 respectively though. The highest selling NON Dc/Marvel book was CONAN #1 ranking at #95. Here's a link if you're interested in this stuff... it's interesting to see that half the crap you read or buy doesn't even hit the top 100 selling books, you know... http://www.comicbookresources.com/news/newsitem.cgi?id=4678

Jeph Loeb is out of writting the ALL STARS BATMAN and Frank Miller is in! Krank Miller and Jim Lee, together, doing a year long Batman book book... Life is pretty sweet for comic fans these days.

DC is putting out a $4.99 Vertigo TPB featuring six Vertigo #1's including Y: THE LAST MAN #!, 100 BULLETS #1, and TRANSMETROPOLITAN #1 (Which was actually under the banner at the time, but who's complaining, right; for $4.99 how can you NOT want to buy this book. It'll be out in April or May.

BLOODHOUND is cancelled and that OTHER Dan Jolley book, FARISTORM has him leaving with issue #13... expect it to be gone shortly there after... it's like jumping a sinking ship.

Would it be wrong of me to mention how much I've enjoyed the first two issues of NEW AVENGERS? Why do so many people seem to hate it. I like the slow paceing and nifty charcter interaction like Jessica Drew 'outing' Matt Murdoch with him denying it over and over and when Spider-Man gets the crap beat out of him AND has his mask ripped off... why hasn't this happened more often? If it was the 'real world' it would. OOPS! I hope I didn't spoil anything for some of you...

For you Manga fans out there, Kotobuki Tsukasa, character designer for FAKE and has a new book coming out here through DC's CMX line called SWORD OF THE DARK ONES. It could be worth checking out...

RED SONJA is coming later this year, written by Michael Avon Oeming, who ended THOR so pleasingly well last year.

Ok, some Marvel news... David Mack will be writting WOLVERINE after Mark Millar's run on the title and I can't remember if I mentioned this last time but there WILL be a second X-FORCE mini series but WITHOUT Rob Liefeld.

ANGEL fans can pick up a few crumbs later this year when a new ANGEL comic starts up. It will feature 'story ideas that went unused' from the head of Joss Whedon but not actually WRITTEN by him.

-----

Ok, I'm outta here!

It's interesting how the two main companies are taking opposite approaches to the business. DC is going to a "quality over quantity" approach, so a lot of their major titles are up near the top 25. Marvel prefers flooding the market with titles, hence their dominance in the rest of the Top 100. It also matches my personal purchasing patterns pretty accurately; I have all of the DC Top 25, but the vast majority of stuff I collect still comes from Marvel.

Many of the rebooted Marvel titles have been really good so far. New Avengers has had some great moments (particularly what the Sentry did to Carnage) and non-stop action that will have ramifications throughout the Marvel universe. Captain America under Ed Brubaker is finally resembling the Tom Clancy military suspense title it's always had potential to be. My favorite, so far though, has actually been New Thunderbolts: colorful old-school art and superhero action, depth, and tons of potential plot-lines set up for future issues.

In fact, the only disappointment has been Warren Ellis on Iron Man. Don't get me wrong, it looks beautiful and has some cool potential, but the fact that the third issue has now been re-solicited for APRIL (??) has left me pretty damn disappointed. Sort of the story for Ellis's career...good ideas, but horrible delays kill the momentum (Ultimate Nightmare, Planetary, etc.)

David Mack's writing is good, but if he's also doing the art on Wolverine I may sit it out. It's just too painted and highbrow for my tastes...his two arcs on Daredevil confused the heck out of me because it's so hard to follow the action in those Kabuki-like scenes. He should stick to cover art.

Save your $$ on the LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES book. The story just falls flat, and doesn't live up to the hype, in my opinion. I give it 12 to 14 issues before they pull the plug for good.

You do realise that as long as Paul Levitz is in charge there will always be a Legion of Superheroes book around, don't you? Even if he has to write it himself. (which would be fun, to say the least)

I think your ire should be directed at Diamond or you LCS, not DC. Unless you think DC should have printed more copies.

Perhaps the reason so many people hate it is that none of those characters are Avengers. If I took over X-Men and spent the first five issues writing about Dr. Strange, Giant-Man, and Cloak and Dagger, I'm guessing fans of those characters would love it, but actual X-Men fans would turn on it quickly.

What I like best about New Thunderbolts is that it isn't really "new" at all. It's like Thunderbolts didn't go away for like 2 years. New Thunderbolts is just Thunderbolts, and hey, they're back.

Nah, they all featured Batman. I don't know why everyone complains about Wolverine when DC's whoring of Bats seems just as bad.

I get scared when I see the words "painted" and "Wolverine" in the same paragraph. I'm still recovering from "Meltdown" scars.

Yeah, T-Bolts and New Avengers have been fun so far. The T-Bolts gimmick relies heavily on underused villains and Marvel continuity. I just hope Nicieza doesn't screw it up again, like he did with the whole Gyrich/Adhesive X storyline. If Swordsman turns out to be Jack Monroe, then my warning lights will start flashing.

I'm okay with the Avengers roster shake-up. After forty years of Wonder Man, Wasp, Hawkeye, Vision, etc., I can stand some new members. It's funny how, with the exception of Sentry and Spidey, the new members were all included on the "ballot" cover of issue #222 in 1982(Power Man, Wolverine, Spider-Woman and Daredevil). Does that mean ROM is on the way?! If nothing else, the new line-up is supremely improved over another "real Avengers" shake-up: Cap, Gilgamesh, Thor, Mr. Fantastic and Invisible Woman. So the "Cap and one other member" idea has been done before.

David Mack's writing is good? The last thing I saw from him was the incredibly tedious "Echo" arc in Daredevil. And I liked Kabuki for a while until it turned into a repetitive, "artistic" wankfest. Now I just stay away.

I've been enjoying New Avengers too, and I see nothing wrong with shaking up the roster -- "the old order changeth" and all that. Doesn't mean "Chaos" wasn't dreck, though.

I just read this issue. I'm assuming that Mephisto's magic whammy that wiped everyone's knowledge of Peter's secret identity had no effect on Peter's knowledge of other heroes' true identities. Peter has known Daredevil was Matt Murdock for a long time....
