My quest of trowing out random topics continues,

My topic is What is the Most Underrated Fighting Game (2d 3d or Side Scrolling for any Video Game system)

A couple that come to mind are

Evilzone (PS one)
A very fun liitle anime inspired fighting (Complete with horrible over the top American dubbing) game with a simplistic control style that any one could pick up and play.

and

Fatal Fury: Mark of the Wolves
The Best way to describe this a Cross Between Fatal Fury, King of Fighters 1998 and Street Fighter Alpha 3

feel free to add to the list

Squaresoft never brought Tobal 2 to the US, and for that they are eternally cursed. (It's hard to call a game that got Fighting Game of the Year awards from multiple publications and web sites underrated, but since 9 out of 10 US gamers have never heard of it...)

I love Evil Zone. It's certainly not very complex - althought it's probably as complex as you can get for a game that just uses two buttons - but it was a blast. Danzaiver might be the best fighting game character of them all. How can you not love a guy who feels the need to randomly yell his name all the time and challenges his opponents with lines like "So, we are to fight? Then we are to fight! DANZAIVER!" or "The power of the just ruler destroys all evil. THE ULTIMATE HERO: DANZAIVER!" The ridiculously long episode titles are great, too.

For more traditional games, I never got bored with Tekken 3. Bryan Fury, the evil super zombie robot mercenary Interpol kickboxer would be my other front runner for best fighting game character.

My favorite would be Rival Schools. The controls are similar to Street Fighter. It's tag team so you can get the cool team up moves, but you can only switch characters between rounds so it avoids all of the cheesey constant tagging to get the free hits (like in the Marvel Vs. Capcom series).

I always liked World Heroes from SNK. The cast of characters was interesting, it had gimmick matches, and, hell, it was from SNK, and they know what they're doing. It wasn't the most difficult of games to beat, but it was fun in an off-beat way.

My favorite characters were the German robot (who had extendable arms and legs a la Street Fighter 2's Dhalsim) and the Russian magician Rasputin, who could summon gigantic hands to rub together and molest his opponents while he laughed in glee... if you haven't seen it, you won't get it. It's really bizarre. Just imagine Sinestro in a robe, but less pink, and you've got Rasputin.

Along that same tip, I would also say Saturday Night Slam Masters, which was Capcom's interesting mix of fighting and pro wrestling. I used to have copies of both for my SNES, and I don't know where they got to...

I have a strange place in my heart for the Bushido Blade games. You've got to love games where your matches are anywhere from 5 sec. to 20 minutes. Taking the fight across the castle in the first game was cool too. I'd always cripple people and then end my fights by running to high ground. There's just something really funny about 4 or 5 of your enemies crawling around a castle with massive leg injuries

Unless he ment Super Punch Out for the SNES that was pretty underrated by most of the major video game press at the time despite the fact it was a rocking little game.

I'd have to list River City Ransom, Technos Samurai (OK, it's not really called that but the real name in Japanese escapes me), and Riki Kunio (again real-long name in Japanese escapes me, but it's Technos-fighter...ON THE NES! YEAH!). I also have to mention Killer Instinct Gold; it improved everything from Killer Instinct and it just got totally ignored.

I was a little disappointed that the Musketeer ripped it off too (though the fight on and around the carraige was cool).
