If there's not something to go nuts about, then there wouldn't be a story. I love how Collinsworth was laughing about it before Buck went nuts, and how Aikman and Collinsworth let him look stupid without saying anything about it.
Tonight I wanna ruin my life, I wanna throw it all away, In a spectacular way
Who has to break the news to Buck that he works for FOX, and FOX encourages what Moss did? Could someone please tell the Packers that it is perfectly okay to actually tackle the offensive player who is in possession of the football. And, I wonder if Aikman was channeling Al Michaels from MNF blowouts in the last 3 minutes, encouraging the Vikings to kick a field goal in order for them to have an OVERwhelming victory, rather than UNDERstandably running the ball to kill time.
Indignation? Maybe I'm biased (looking at my locale and sig, I'd guess so), but are you defending what that classless turd Moss did as anything but ignorant and stupid?
It was unneccesary, and yet another example of what a waste he is.
We got beat, plain and simple. Bad defense, bad decision making, and yes, horribly timed turnovers all cost us. Minnesota took advantage of everything that they needed to.
That STILL does not excuse what Moss did. It was childish, and it should've drawn a flag. I hope he gets fined.

Well, then Brett Favre should be flagged every time he throws a touchdown, and pirouettes down the field, or when he throws punches at Willie Offord or any other defender that talks smack at him, right? It was a touchdown celebration, not even a very good one, but no different than any other. If you want to eliminate all touchdown celebrations and drag football back to the 40s, that's fine, but FOX has always been guilty of picking a few certain incidences of poor sportsmanship and blowing them up to be a huge scandal, and then filling their ads up with T.O. doing the bird dance and hyping interviews with Peyton Manning about whether or not he likes to make out with his wife.

Moss = jackass Buck = dumbass
Fair enough...I don't know if it was HUGE over-reaction though. If I recall correctly, he just said that it was uncalled for and classless. I stand ready to be corrected if anyone has the actual verbage he used.
"Announcer voice" tends to make everyting sound more over bearing too.
Excalibur...you got in before my post. Favre's reactions are typical TD celebrations. Should Moss be allowed to pantomime jacking off on the Green Bay logo if he likes? They have celebration rules for a reason, and pretending to bare ass to a crowd should be included in that. I don't want to ban all celebrations, but there has to be a limit.
I don't know that it's necessarily WHAT he (and Howie, J.B., Bradshaw and Johnson said) it's HOW they said it. In the hushed tones, like Moss pulled down his pants and pissed on a cheesehat worn by somebody's grandma, who was holding a picture of Reggie White, and who was holding a sign that said "We Support Brett Favre's Wife," and who was wearing an American flag.
Geez, I remember when the announcers used to think the "Dirty Bird" was the coolest thing ever.

Ignorant, stupid, AND funny as hell to non-Packer fans, to be precise.
I became a Randy Moss fan today, because if I'm going to classify Terrell Owens's antics as "lighthearted, entertaining behavior," I have to extend the same room for levity to the opposition. (AND because I laughed my ass off when he did it.)

I think the more interesting antic was Moss saying to the crowd, "Look at the scoreboard, motherfuckers" in the first quarter, after scoring a touchdown.
As a very casual football watcher (trying to replace hockey), I find stuff like that to be entertaining. Sure, he's a dope, but as long as he's the exception, it's not that big a deal.

Didn't one of the Kansas City Chiefs do that "waaaaay back" in the late 80's/early 90's??
I thought it was a classless act, and the only problem I have with the media (Fox, DisnEspn, etc.) for their "righteous indignation" over such acts are the fact that they show them. How often do they switch away from such things as player fights or fans on the field, but they make damn sure to catch every second of every touchdown "celebration"? They could stop these from being big stories by simply not showing them, but they love the controversey and it gets casual fans talking and possibly tuning in, so they'll continue to talk out of both sides of their mouths about the issue.
It's the same thing with big legal and illegal hits. The NFL and the networks are constantly showing hits and hyping them up as part of the game, but then they'll also show some more "righteous indignation" on what they might deem as too much.
Unfortunately, the taunting is a part of the game now. I wish it wasn't, but I'm too old to stop watching now.
"The 6-5 Seahawks are leading the West by one game. They have lost five of their last eight. They lost to a 4-6 Bills team at home last week by 29 points. They have Jerry Rice starting at WR, wearing Steve Largent's number and running fly patterns with a pitchfork sticking out his back. They are being routinely outscored on Sundays by Rashard Lewis, Ray Allen and even Vlad Radmanovic. On the bright side, it's only Year 6 of Mike Holmgren's five-year plan." - The "Sports Guy" Bill Simmons hits the nail on the freaking head

Certainly that and worse have happened after soccer goals.

It was John Randle, when he was with the Vikings.
Man, I hate this announce team.
The thing that bothered me most about it,was earlier during the third quarter, they were going on and on about how what Moss does is part of who Moss is, and you have to understand and tolerate that. They actually managed to changer their position on Moss THREE times during the game.
I think the problem here is if Moss doesn't do THAT, then there's no story at all. It's almost as if they were waiting for him to do something dumb, so they could rail on him again. Without that, it's just a story about how the Vikings dominated the Packers on the road. Now the idiot sportswriters can wring their hands about how the victory was "marred" by Moss' antics.
At least they eased up on the Brett Farve love-fest this time around, although I loved how those first two INTs were completely the fault of the receivers, and not the quarterback.

Amen. Buck always gets these moments of "hysteria" when he does a national telecast. Aikman once in a while says something useful, but usually it is clouded by the fact that he had what eight concussions. And Collinsworth desperately needs to be the center of attention...
(edited by Grimis on 10.1.05 0730) Well, just as an attorney, as a human being, I would have thought that if there were recommendations that were so blatantly and flagrantly over the line in terms of torture, that you might have recognized them. I mean, it certainly appears to me that water boarding, with all its descriptions about drowning someone to that kind of a point, would come awfully close to getting over the border, and that you'd be able to at least say today, There were some that were recommended or suggested on that, but I certainly wouldn't have had a part of that, as a human being. - Senator Ted Kennedy, confirmation hearing of Alberto Gonzales, 1/7/2005

I wholeheartedly agree with your point. However - to their credit ESPN is *not* showing the incident that occurred. Since I missed that part of the game, I was awfully confused as to what Moss had done that was such a big deal. They showed him kind of waltzing over to the field goal post and I almost imagined him dry-humping the thing. So to hear that he pantomimed mooning the crowd, well, doesn't sound quite as bad, even though he's an idiot.
I assume that Philly will have some lovely signs and taunts waiting for him next week.

Amen to that.
I think the reaction to what Moss did is more ridiculous than his antics. I didn't find it funny, nor insulting. It was just there. I think TO's end zone antics are far more amusing.
Regarding the "lifting the leg" thing - wasn't there a Pittsburgh Steeler defender who did a one-legged hop that looked like a dog leaking on a fire hydrant? Or is it a former Ray Lewis move that a Steeler mocked?
See, when I saw the fantasy football show they had on Spike, I was wondering why they insisted Hackett was the worst offensive coordinator in the league. I thought that honor went to John Shoop.
