I have to admit, I was quite surprised to read this, as I thought Dibble would there for a long time, even if it was just for the radio side of things. I listen to "The Dan Patrick Show." every day and this is going to be a huge hole left in the show. I listened to the show this Mon-Wed when Dan was by himself, and the show really dragged and was noticeably more boring. Dan's voice also seemed much more monotone and devoid of emotion. I don't know why ESPN wouldn't extend the contract, but I guess they had their reasons. The most surprising thing was that the spokesman said the show would be done solo now. The first person I can think of off the top of my head who would be a good replacement would be John Kruk. Any ideas?

Brace yourself. One rumored name is Deion.

I think, unfortunately, it's going to be Michael Irvin, especially since football season will be over next month.

Careful listeners will notice that Phil has been moved off the show too. He's been working on the Sportsbash most of this week (although most marketes don't hear the show in lieu of local yokels doing afternoon drive).

Thankfully, with Czaban's show on the morning, I'll now have enough radio to listen to on tape at work (Czabe, TK and Loveline) to not have to listen to DP's show anymore.

I like Irvin, but he yells to much, and dominates too much of the conversation whereever he's at. Phil being gone sucks too. Why are they breaking up a good thing?

Good question. I just got XM, and Dan, Phil, & Rob were one of the big reasons I was excited about having ESPN radio. Hopefully they come to their senses, and replace him with someone similar...Irvin would be too much to listen to 3 hours a day, 5 days a week.

I was talking to someone today and ESPN Radio would appear to have "jumped the shark." IN the last year or so...

* no Chris Moore. Gamenight is populated by 100 people, most of whom are marginal. Except Salisbury, who's horrible.
* no Charley Pierce. Weekend Gamenight is even worse.
* V Show gets more to weekends only.
* Mr Tony leaves.
* Morning Show becomes insanely repetitive. Same 3 topics discussed every hour. (this is understandble, given the nature of morning drive. still annoying.)
* Breaking up Patrick Show.

Packman, hopefully Mr. Tony will be on XM soon, so that will justify your purchase. And Czaban's show will be mornings, for better or worse.

While moving Dibble out of a BT seat is fine with me - I didn't dig him and it's inevitable that analysts get bumped out for more recently retired guys if they're not great - the DP show totally doesn't work with out Dibble. You end up with three hours about the Packers flag when you just leave Dan out there to do The Story Of The Day every day. Dibble's goofiness breaks up Dan's life or death demanor on really stupid/pointless subjects.

I was really kinda disappionted in the show in not mentioning Dibble's departure in anyway. I guess that's how it goes, but it shouldn't go that way.

Didn't they originally say Phil was just on vacation? I don't listen to the SportsBash usually (awful - and he's been no better on the mornings with Salisbury the last week or so), so I could've missed him.

I don't think Irvin would want to do a three hour show on a regular basis, unless it was from home; it seems like he's in Bristol on Saturday night, out on Monday night before the game's over, and not hanging around full time. Salisbury is probably the easy choice if they want a sidekick for Dan, since he's done it before.

After the whole Mel Kiper gone/not gone saga, I'm kinda holding out hope that there will be a reversal with Dibble too. (His name is still all over the show page.) That's just the best for him and for the show; ChiTrib floated Dibble's name as a replacement for the fired Jay Mariotti's show, and I can't imagine that being any better.

ESPN's policy has been to take people off the air before their contract runs out, so either you don't get a goodbye or they just fade away.

They didn't do with Tony, probably because a) his name is on the show and b) he's still doing PTI and upsetting the TK applecart is something they didn't want to have to explore.

Fudge. We just got DisnEspn radio back in the 'Ville and now Dibs is gone!!??

Off Topic: Anybody know anything about why Mark Patrick's show isn't going to be on Fox Sports Radio anymore? I couldn't find anything online about it. I'm gonna miss his Cosell, Facenda, Schott, & the Cock Line w/Coach Holtz. Maybe he'll show up more on Bob and Tom again.

"The 6-5 Seahawks are leading the West by one game. They have lost five of their last eight. They lost to a 4-6 Bills team at home last week by 29 points. They have Jerry Rice starting at WR, wearing Steve Largent's number and running fly patterns with a pitchfork sticking out his back. They are being routinely outscored on Sundays by Rashard Lewis, Ray Allen and even Vlad Radmanovic. On the bright side, it's only Year 6 of Mike Holmgren's five-year plan." - The "Sports Guy" Bill Simmons hits the nail on the freaking head

*DING*

All Christmas week, DP kept reminding us that both Dibs & Phil were on vacation, and he even had Phil call in one day to do his "Stat of the Day". But I dont remember him mentioning either of them during New Year's week. Interesting.

And havent Phil & Dibs been with DP for like 5 years?

As mush as Dibble's bone-headed "You dont know what you're talking about because I played pro sports & you didnt" ignorance got on my nerves, DP has been pretty damn dry by himself. He deffinitely needs a sidekick or 2 to feed off of to be funny.

But at least he's not as bad as Colin "Yapping on & on for 15 minutes straight about how much of a man I am/what foods I dont like/which pop star I think is terrible/which U.S. city I think has the cleanest airport" Cowherd.

100% INCORRECT. I wonder what Dan's take on all this is.

Something I forgot on my list:

LeBaatd going local and being replaced by Madden, the one person on ESPN I dislike more than Cowherd.

This is utter and complete insanity. There has to be something we don't know, because it just doesn't make any sense at all. Back when TK was on, I would turn ESPN Radio on at 9 (Central) and wouldn't turn it off until 3. It was really interesting and enjoyable, now its just boring. I would hope its Kruk personally, because he has the kinda gee-whiz personality that would be great on the show. I couldn't take Michael Irvin for 15 hours a week, I can barely take him for that one long segment on Monday.
I had wondered why Phil wasn't there this past week, but I just assumed he was still on vacation in Buffalo visiting his parents. If he gets taken off the show, phew, they are going to have to do a lot of work, just to get it back to where it was two weeks ago.
If Dibble finds his way onto WMVP, I would give his show a few listens to see if it merited taping. He added so much to the show, but a lot of it might have been his chemistry with Dan and Phil. I'm going to have to find 3 hours of programming to fill those now vacant hours. It would be great if TK did a 3rd and/or 4th hour, but I'll be able to find something else hopefully.

I must agree with the majority here. I listen to ESPN Radio over the internet at work and most of the points made are valid.

Mike & Mike get very repetitive. Once you've heard one hour, you can safely turn it off.

Cowherd blatently plays the same bits more than once. I wasn't sure at first, but now it's been confirmed by a reliable source. Plus, he just blathers on and on and on about the stupidest crap.

As for Patrick's show - I thought I didn't care for Dibble, but listening to Dan by himself this week was torture!

SportsBash? Kaselias is just awful. He should go back to lawyering.

Not only does Cowherd replay his bits (like the globe thing), but he, like the Gnome, reads his takes.

That was the last nail in the coffin for me.

Mariotti got canned. WMVP is the radio home for the White Sox and Bulls (I think the Bulls), and those contracts are coming due in the next year or so. Since Mariotti never pulls punches directed toward those two teams, and has been asked to tone it down, he was released.

ON TOPIC - Damn, I sure wish we could get Czaban's show here in the Milwaukee market. However, for the last 8 years or so he's had an exclusive deal signed with the top local morning show to do a sports show every morning with them (which will now come on right after he's done with his national show), meaning that his Fox Sports show CAN'T be carried here.

EDIT - Good news for me. Cowherd's show just got cut to one hour here. They're going with a local show from 10-12, so we'll lose the last two hours of him.

Kaselias is subbing for DP today. He's not very good.

I got to listen to Kornheiser's show today. Hearing him rip Marriotti & Marriotti's boss brought a smile to my face.

According to the show's recap, it was the increasing-omnipresent Buster Olney.

Did anyone else catch at the end of the last segment Kaselias said that he would be there for the rest of the week? We can only hope that is not the case. If it were, I would think it would signal that something might be up with the show as a whole, although it was good to hear Phil back on the show today.

Buster Olney does seem to be everywhere lately...could he be the next Peter Gammons???
