I stumbled upon this week somehow and ordered a copy from Amazon.Ca. (As near as I can tell, it's not available in the US).

So very Cool.

It has both the legends game and the regular NHL game, complete with Theodore wearing a toque.

One downside, no Coach's Corner., even though it's from the HNIC broadcast.

The odd thing is that local HMVs have HUGE amounts of the Tampa Bay Stanley Cup Champions DVD...that they're never gonna sell. The Heritage Classic sells well 'round these parts despite being Oiler-centric. But the strange thing is that the NHL isn't striking while the iron's hot and doing a Flames DVD, since it would sell like hotcakes 'round these parts.

I'm still wondering why the CBC isn't showing "classic" games instead of Movie Night in Canada.

CBC aired classic games during the HNIC timeslot during the last lockout. The only thing I can assume is that the ratings stunk for them. It does seem like a logical way to fill the time.

I say it's rights issues that's why they're not showing them, while TSN & Rogers Sportsnet are. The funny thing (and confusing thing) is that Sportsnet & TSN both showed similar sets of games, for example the Flames/Canadiens 1989 Cup Final, but showed different feeds from the same game.

I got a little choked up watching the introductions to the Legends game. I think almost every Oiler from the glory period played in the game, from Smenko and McSorley to Messier and 99. There's an alternate commentary during the Legends game with Kevin Love and Craig Simpson, both of whom were in the game.

Mark,
I remember reading on one of the sports business sites, that the NHL is capping the number of old games that can be shown on any one network during the lockout at 10. I don't know how many the CBC has shown, but thats the latest that I have heard about it. I doubt that that will change anytime soon. I guess I can see the logic in doing it, but it seems to me you'd want your product out there in whatever form you could get it, but lets not make this a discussion on whether or not Bettman is a good commissioner or not.
By the way, I just got Replay Radio the other day, and it has been working well for me taping TK.

But the last thing that Bettman wants is non-stop old games being played until the fans are ready to riot because they are so worked up with what really amounts to being teased. That would just put more pressure on someone (whether or not it'd be the owners) to cave first, and since they're playing this out like a poker game, it's a good stance to keep as many invariables out of the equation as possible.

I'm sure there's probably royalty rights to pay out for airing this stuff too that no one wants to get into that much.

The most ludicrous part is going to be if, say, Boston and the Rangers play for the Cup. That's just, what. The most annoying part to me is that the "top 4 per conference qualify" means the 16 best teams will almost never make the playoffs.
