According to pwtorch.com, Flair tried to bury the hatchet, but Foley wouldn't accept a handshake. He did ask Flair to sign a copy of his book for charity, which angered Flair (in his crazy-old-man way, I imagine), and he took a swing at Foley.

http://www.pwtorch.com/artman/publish/article_11113.shtml

This is sad. Two well-respected legends can't put a war of words behind them without getting physical. Accept an apology, move on.

Flair can't seem to disagree with anyone without punching him. Remember the Bischoff fiasco? And he also can't seem to knock anyone out. Though, with Foley, I'd imagine it takes a lot more than a punch to dim his lights...

They both come off pretty bad there, with Foley turning down Flair's handshake and Flair throwing a punch because of it. I'm not suprised however, as I've heard some interviews with both men ripping into each other, including Foley really blasting him at the Punk/Joe II show in Ring of Honor.

I'm not sure whether or not I would have accepted Flair's handshake, either. Foley has his reasons to be a little miffed with Flair. I guess it would depend on what exactly Flair said when he offered the handshake and how he said it. Did he sound sincere? Or did he sound like he was politicking?

I would have accepted the handshake if he sounded sincere, and I certainly would have accepted it if I was about to ask the man to sign a book for charity.

What I would never do, under any circumstances, is take a swing at Mick Foley.

The story's now on the Observer and Meltzer's suggesting that it was a work to set up a Wrestlemania match. If so, it's a pretty elaborate one.

Foley has watched too much wrestling to shake Flair's hand. The Naitch would've pulled it back, run it through his hair and then done the Fargo Strut, punctuated by a 'Whoo!'

Also, Foley couldn't accept the handshake since some fans were backstage and they were all yelling "No! No!"

I'm interested in selling my youngest daughter into slavery as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. She's a Georgetown sophomore, speaks fluent Italian, always cleared the table when it was her turn. What would a good price for her be? While thinking about that, can I ask another? My Chief of Staff Leo McGarry insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly says he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself or is it okay to call the police? Here's one that's really important because we've got a lot of sports fans in this town: touching the skin of a dead pig makes one unclean. Leviticus 11:7. If they promise to wear gloves, can the Washington Redskins still play football? Can Notre Dame? Can West Point? Does the whole town really have to be together to stone my brother John for planting different crops side by side? Can I burn my mother in a small family gathering for wearing garments made from two different threads? Think about those questions, would you? One last thing: while you may be mistaking this for your monthly meeting of the Ignorant Tight-Ass Club, in this building, when the President stands, nobody sits." --- President Jed Bartlett, The West Wing

Was Foley brought on the show just for the Arab bit? I thought he was doing the ROH thing right now.

He is doing ROH but they are only one show a month sometimes two. He is also doing a ton of other Indy shows too as he did the Sabu benefit show this past weekend.

As far as the Flair/Foley thing I don't really see the point of shooting an angle backstage where no one can see. If the fans can't see it then it can't draw any money. I just think if it was a work then Foley has been a fraud the past months working the net with his I hate Flair rhetoric. Not that I'm against a Flair/Foley feud I just think they could have went about a better way to get it started then tricking a few smarks. Then again I thought the Orton angle last year didn't make any sense and that turned out great so what do I know?

It's called "working the smarts". Remember the Owen Hart enzigiri of doom on Shawn Michaels in 95 or 96?

EDIT: Anyone else remember reading in Flair's book how Bischoff has tried to bury the hatchet with him and Flair wouldn't do it? I mean, I wasn't there, but I'm not sure how sincere Flair's offer was.

Well, I am a bit stunned Foley didn't accept the handshake, I expect Mick to be a bigger man. But then again, asking Flair to sign the book for chairty was at least a step in the right direction, I can't see why Flair would go off on him unless, Foley made signing the book come off very insincere. If it is a work, I expect to see it on Raw next week if it isn't then its a shoot. Vince has done his appealing with the smarks this year with Taboo Tuesday.

So if I understand this correctly, Flair tried to apologize and Foley didn't accept. Then Foley asked Flair to do him a favor (albeit for charity). Flair then punched Foley.

Foley should have accepted the apology (I'm assuming sincerity). Flair should have signed the book for charity. I think both of them are in the wrong here. But, I can understand Flair's refusal to sign. He tried to mend a fence with Foley and Foley declined, but then asked Ric for a favor?

IIRC, Flair suckered Bischoff in catering.

I kinda doubt its a work because Foley and Flair have never been into "working the internet." Now if they had mentioned it on the show, that'd be one thing but there was no mention of it at all.

Seems strange it would be work, the E doesn't really do the work the smarts stuff anymore. But it does seem odd that Foley shows up for two rather meaningless segments. I guess we'll see.
I was flipping through Foley's book again and his criticism of Flair was pretty fucked up.
Flair's criticism of Foley was probably worse.
You gotta assume they'll be wrestling at Mania, personal feelings or not, that seems to be the perfect spot for them.
I don't really care to see a match between, horribly clash of styles, and has no long-term potential for money ( I mean, 1 match is cool and all, but it's a spot that can be used to get over one of the younger guys.)

Unless WWE decides to get younger guys over by making it a tag match and teaming Foley/Flair up with two up-and-comers.

Has ANYTHING that didnt occur on television EVER turned out to be a work? I dont understand why people still think these things might be works.

Let's not forget how insignificant McMahon & Co. thinks us "smarks" are. Why would he ever go through all the trouble of working us only?

Except, that happened on television where actual people could see it.

What's to be sad about? Just because these two are net darlings doesn't mean they are mature people. Flair has proven himself to be a jackass over the years, he minimized Foley's entire career and I don't see what obligates Mick to buddy up with him, other than Jesus of New Hampshire probably wanting it that way.

Damn that sucks. I always thought he was the best wrestler of the Armstrong boys, but he never showed any personality and couldn't connect with the fans at all.
