Cut them a LITTLE slack. I mean, it's Johnson and Schilling for crying out loud. I'm almost POSITIVE that they'll get at least one run tonight. I mean, Rick Helling is pitching!
Yeah i seem to remember almost every high power offense is useless against Shilling and Johnson. Look at the cards during the playoffs last year. Morris pitched some gems... but we could do absolutely nothing against Shilling.
I am the JOBBER TO THE STARS. You better remember that.

Gotta love the Tony Tony Tony props, although I believe that it's spelled CLAH-SIC
Yeah, well. You know.
BTW, we're in the process of adding a Mr. Tony tribute section to our webpage, for all you TK junkies out there.

I think Lankford still has big things to offer, but I have to tell you that Gant has been amazing so far. One of the two is going to have to be moved I would think - we can't sit on that kind of talent...
We have a small problem in that we have 5 guys who can play outfield and who are decent hitters - each has strengths so there is no obvious choice to bench.
Kotsay - Amazing arm - probably the best contact hitter Klesko - Power hitter, decent range Bubba Trammel - Good hitter, average + defense Lankford - Can still hit 30-40 homers, defense hasn't fallen off Gant - Looks really good in the early going - good arm and has already hit for power.
Add to that a speedster with good defense (Cesar Crespo) and we are really deep in the outfield right now. Something has to give... and I would think it would be Lankford with the biggest salary of the bunch. Still, Crespo and Trammel have both been subjects of trade rumors (of course, Nevin used to be also...)

Well, don't get your hopes up for Ron Gant. His last truly productive season was in 1995 (.276-.386-.554, 29 HR, 88 RBI, 23 steals in 119 games), and he's been a terrible hitter since then. He can still hit homers, but so can Bubba Trammell, who is a far better hitter.
The best idea would be to go with Kotsay, Trammell and Klesko, since those are the best players. Lankford could surely hit 30 homers, I guess, but so could Trammell and he also won't strike out as much. Lankford's 145 Ks in 389 at-bats last year wass truly hideous. It's not that he isn't talented, I just don't see how he fits the Padres at all, who have too many outfielders as is. But in a platoon role with Trammell, which is what I assume they'll do, he could have his moments.
Of course, then you run into the problem that no one should make $8 million+ to be a platoon guy. Lankford seems like someone the Yankees would try to trade for when RonDL White goes down again in July and Shane Spencer isn't hitting, so maybe that'll be what happens.
Replay to start Thursday and Friday; Only questionable home run calls (ESPN.com) So it starts. Better set aside about five and a half hours for those Boston/Los Angeles ALDS games. Bright side? More time for Dane Cook commercials!!
