ROHwrestling.com has a sale on many of their DVDs right now. Anyone ever ordered any from them? I'm curious of people's opinions on the quality of ROH DVDs.

Also, what shows would you recommend to others? ROH has had many really good shows, and while I've seen quite a few, there are just as many that I have not seen.

Easiest solution is buy everything they've ever produced. In lieu of that, there's a couple suggestions...

1) The chronological approach - start from the beginning. The first few shows tended to have some amazing matches on them. I would recommend "Crowning a Champion" from that era most of all.

2) The pick a guy approach - Pick someone you know about/like/want to see, and find the most appealing matches of that person. For instance say you like Paul London, you might want things like Unscripted and Death Before Dishonor.

3) ROH Reborn - If you want to catch up with the company as to where it is now, start with the double shot from 4/23-4/24 in the Midwest and work forward from there. You'll get all the info on Gen Next, the Punk-Joe rivalry, the Rottweilers vs. Joe, etc. Speaking of new stuff, once it comes out on dvd, I recommend getting the 10/16/04 Chicago Ridge show. Meltzer gave Punk-Joe II ***** and I can't argue that in the slightest.

The ROH DVD's are excellent quality from about March of 2003 on.

The best shows to scoop up are Death Before Dishonor 2003( featuring Punk/Raven in a Dog Collar Match which has the best promo of 2003 on the highlight video by CM Punk. Styles/Red vs. Briscoes in a great Tag Team Match and the best 4-way match i've ever seen between Homicide/Maff/Whitmer & the HILARIOUS Colt Cabana.)

Also, if you love crazy highspots, get Main Event Spectacles. Its has the Scramble Cage match which made Jack Evans a star. Also, it has AJ Styles vs. Bryan Danielson. This match is 25 min. of amazing wrestling. Flat-out.

And finally, if you order lets say on a Monday before 3PM, you will have the DVD by Wed. I usually get them next-day if I order by 3PM, but I live maybe 3 hrs. from Philly.

I also have to recommend Death Before Dishonor 2003. There are some real fantastic matches... In addition to what IYM mentioned, there's Samoa Joe v Paul London in London's farewell ROH match and Tom Carter v Doug Williams. That was a technical showcase...

And you can watch Joey Matthews do his best to hold together a match with the forgettable Krazy K and the incredibly strung out Jeff Hardy. I'm almost positive Jeff blew more spots that he hit in that one. Trainwreck value only.

But yes, Colt Cabana is the funniest wrestler working in America, and he can work beyond comedy as well. He's even a decently sized guy (6'2", 230-245) so I'm not sure why McMahon doesn't have him jobbing to Mark Jindrak on Velocity.

Edited for clarity

I gotta agree with the rest of these guys. I've ordered direct from ROHwrestling.com and by the second time you order (maybe even the first) you get put on their mailing list (for the catalog) and shipping becomes quicker.

I ordered three shows the other week and had them in three days.

The wrestlers put down some really great matches, and the vibe is really fun and positive. The film quality is not that great.. much worse than WWF. In some of the older DVDs, they put the whole 2-3 hour show as just a single chapter, so if you want to watch a later match, you have to start from the beginning and fast forward for like 10 minutes to get there, and don't accidentally press < or >, or else you'll have to start again. I found that really frustrating, plus it never said that on the website.

I'll probably order some more at some point--support indy wrestling!--but I was really unhappy about not being able to skip matches.

Have they put a DVD chronicling the Steamboat/Flair storyline? If they do can someone tell me what its called, so I can pick it up?

I think you mean Foley and that answer is no. The gist of the storyline is that Foley called ROH "Ring of Hardcore" which pissed off Steamboat. Then at a few shows they cut promos on each other and managed in a few tag team matches. Not a whole lot to the storyline but its fun seeing the two of them.

Well, I know I'm supposed to be all outraged at this, but I just can't force it. I really don't care if they want to spend the same amount of money they were spending on one Test to hire and train seven Tests.
