Ricky Steamboat has been reported as being backstage at RAW tonight...
Also, he's been reported as signing or near signing with WWE as a backstage agent...
If I see his name displayed on WWE.com as a new member of WWE I will bust a nut...if he works as an agent in any capacity like Patterson did, the wrestling quality of the shows will GREATLY improve!
Bring on the "Best of Steamboat" DVD baby...
Only news, to me, that would be bigger than this would be Bret Hart at a show and near signing with them again...

"the wrestling quality of the shows will GREATLY improve!"
How so? It's always good to have smart guys in important positions, but how much can what guy do? The quality of timing pin kickouts might greatly improve, but is he just going to walk in and make Sylvain Grenier good? I guess you could say that Fit Finlay singlehandedly made the women's division, but it's not like having great workers like Arn Anderson or Dean Malenko as agents makes any kind of notable difference once way or another.
I would, however, like to see him become Maven's personal mentor, just to put you in an awkward position.
No never...Steamboat is too smart to be stuck with Maven...
Pat Patterson had the deciding factor in putting together the finishes and heat segments of matches...from 1997-2001 most of the best matches were of his insight...he generated the finish for WM 13's submission match too...
If Steamboat is given the same opportunity he could get more of the matches on a "tell a story" basis...I mean, this guy did carry the Barbarian to a very watchable 20 min. match...

The big problem with your theory is that Pat Patteson quit a few weeks ago, not in 2001. It's not like he's been locked in a hotel room for the past three years and just collecting a paycheck.
He doesn't really have me anywhere...Patterson's input greatly diminished after the boom period and throughout most of the Invasion angle leading into the brand split...he couldn't be in two places at once...however he still took care of the main events of major shows and they always ended up being the best matches on the card (usually)...so if Steamboat were to have the same capacity of a role (with the input) the wrestling would greatly improve...or in the least, RAW could improve (as Smackdown may finally start using Heyman more)...

Well, Patterson was a good wrestler (not a great one), however, he was able to produce amazing main events and matches in general...so I'm taking the logic that if Steamboat is a great wrestler (and story teller), then if he becomes an agent he can use the same skills to hone the skills of others...

Originally posted by Famous MortimerAlright, then agent? Does anyone know if his only qualification for this job is that he used to be a great wrestler?
That's generally what gets agents their jobs, that or loyalty to the company. Even if Steamboat's role is limited to critiquing the ring work and giving guys pointers on places to improve, I'll take that. Aside from being one of the greatest workers of all time he also has a great reputation for being a class guy and someone who is very easy to get along with. Young guys like Grenier or Maven, for example, can only benefit from having a guy like that around.
Hold on here. Pat Patterson was a good, not great, wrestler? I don't think you would say that if you'd ever seen him work. Pat Patterson was a tremendous worker, who teamed with Ray Stevens in one of the best tag teams in history. You should try to see some their stuff. It's great.
Monsoon: Ted Arcidi's gonna drop by. Brain: What a jerk. Monsoon: He's buying dinner. Brain: Oh, that Ted Arcidi. He's a wonderful human being.
Johnny Ace was a great wrestler and smarks were delighted when he was brought in. It didn't take long before he was hated on for favouring A-Train instead of Matt Hardy.
I don't think Johnny Ace is a similar case. For starters, they'd be handling different roles. Steamboat, as I understand it, would be there as a sort of mentor. Ace, on the other hand, was being groomed to take over for Jim Ross. Ace also, if I'm not mistaken, was WCW's head talent guy at the end when they were building the shows around Rick Steiner and Buff Bagwell. He's never done anything to indicate to me that he has a good eye for talent.
I'm not saying that I think Steamboat would be a great booker. He's never done anything to suggest that he would be. His value, in my opinion, would be in showing guys how to get the most out of what they've been given to work with, not writing the shows.

I don't argue the fact that he was good, but compared to Steamboat I'd take Ricky over Patterson...
That's because most of the Internet fans - myself included - came on board with Hulkamania, meaning Pat Patterson was before our time, whereas we all grew up watching Ricky Steamboat.

Today, Christians stand at the head of our country. We want to fill our culture again with the Christian spirit. We want to burn out all the recent immoral developments in literature, in the theatre, and in the press - in short, we want to burn out the poison of immorality which has entered into our whole life and culture as a result of liberal excess during the past years." -----Adolf Hitler
Considering Vince and Steamboat have had serious legal problems in the past, if Steamboat were to work for Vince again, I'd doubt Vince would take a great deal of Steamboat's input. And, unless Steamboat has constructed a time machine for himself and Flair, his impact would be negligible at best.
Still waiting patiently for Game 8 of the Red Sox/Yankee series.

Well, I'm sure we all remember him and finishes as an agent (1... 2... JOHNNY ACE!). Didn't personally see him wrestle, but he certainly made fans with booking finishes.

The opening segment was alright, but the best part was probably the standoff between RVD and Cena....Did Shelton not sell that diving dropkick by RVD on Shelton's pin attempt on Haas? Elsewise, the four-way was entertaining....
