Damn, if I had posted this four days ago like I wanted to, I'd have 'broke the story' on the EVIL DEAD remake. Ah well, all I can add is that Bruce Campbell is going to pick the new Ash himself and Sam Raimi, supposedly, already has a director in line.

I can be the first to tell you that Darren Aronofsky has already dropped out of directing The WATCHMEN and Paul Greengrass has now been named the new director. *SIGH*... this horse ain't getting to the starting line kids.

V FOR VENDETTA, Alan Moore's OTHER masterpiece, seems to be a go. It'll be produced by the Wachowski brothers and Joel Silver with James McTeigue directing.

Michael Moore must REALLY hate George Bush. He's already working on a little film called Fahrenheit 9/11½ which will be ready in time for the next elections. His next film however, called SICKO, won't be ready till late next year.

Toy Story 3 has been greenlit and there's no Pixar in sight. Disney has started it's own digital animation studio to do the work. They are also planing on making TOY STORY 3 and 4 at the same time.

Tom Hanks has agreed to star in Ron Howards film version of THE DA VINCI CODE.

Nic Cage has finally bagged himself a comic book movie! GHOST RIDER begins shooting this January.

For those of you needing your Craig Kilborn fix, his next job will be in the remake of Disney's THE SHAGGY DOG. He's playing the bad guy. Tim Allen is starring.

Disney is so stupid. Except the sad thing is, they aren't. This'll make money, probably almost as much as a Pixar production would, since most of the paying public holds more stock in the Disney name than the one with the little hopping lamp. That is, it'll make money its first week, until word of mouth sinks it since they don't have the geniuses at Pixar on board and the film will be worthy of little other than direct-to-video status. If there's any time that DreamWorks Ani can take control of North American animation, it's now, unless Pixar's relationship with Fox or T-Dub is as successful as their marriage with Disney...doubtful, since they don't have Eisner's family marketing machine.

My worst fear is The Incredibles 2, minus Brad Bird. If Pixar was on board, I could see John Lasseter bringing back Bird and making a damn nice film with a script as smart as the first. Instead, we'll be in Aladdin 2 territory and the franchise will be as dumbed down as all of the Mouse House's other properties.

Maybe they'll find a successor for Eisner already and Steve Jobs can get back to the bargaining table.

Judging by the title, can we assume it's an autobiographical film?

So when you say "I can be the first to tell you..." do you mean the first to copy and paste from some movie news page such as Ain't It Cool or CHUD or were you actually in the meetings and what not where this info was originally presented.
And sorry to say, PeterStork, but word of mouth won't sink any Disney direct to video title regardless of how bad it is. As a Disney employee I can tell you that those movies will sell and sell and sell because whether or not they are good or bad its something to keep the kids occupied. I'm not saying that makes that practice right, to not guarantee the quality like Walt would have done, but its certainly good business at the time.
Pixar isn't done with Disney yet, either. They have one more movie (Cars) due out next year and once Eisner's successor is announced next year, you'll probably hear whether or not Jobs plans on sticking around with the Mouse. Sadly they've let their pissing contest get in the way of their successful business relationship but time, and money, will tell if it can all be worked out in the end. Obviously neither company is going to die without the other either.

You are doing quite a bit of jumping to conclusions. Shouldn't we wait and see how this plays out (like many of us say in the wrestling folder)? I love Pixar as much as the next guy, but there is so much good material to be used for an Incredibles sequel that I'm not worried at this point.

Yes, these movies might be Sinbad and the Seven Seas bad, but we'll have to wait and see.

Meanwhile, I have enjoyed Darren Aronofsky's movies, so I'm sad that he dropped out. He is still making the next Batman movie, right?

SCARLET:That's not six.
WADSWORTH: One plus two plus two plus one.
SCARLET:Nuh, uh. There was only one shot that got the chandelier. That's one plus two plus ONE plus one.

Christopher Nolan (Memento, Insomnia) is directing Batman Begins, which just finished shooting.

Aronofsky is, however, set to direct a film adapation of the manga Lone Wolf and Cub, which was the inspiration for the graphic novel "Road to Perdition" that was later adapted to the screen. Could be interesting.

Yes it will. They've kept all the start date and budget in place. The only thing th's changed is the director, and given Aronofsky's track record over the past few years (The Fountain crashing and burning, Batman: Year One slipping through his fingers due to his dithering) it seems much more likely that Greengrass will get the job done.

Once upon a time in China, some believe, around the year one double-ought three, head priest of the White Lotus Clan, Pai Mei was walking down the road, contemplating whatever it is that a man of Pai Mei's infinite power contemplates - which is another way of saying "who knows" - when a Shaolin monk appeared, traveling in the opposite direction. As the monk and the priest crossed paths, Pai Mei, in a practically unfathomable display of generosity, gave the monk the slightest of nods. The nod was not returned. Now was it the intention of the Shaolin monk to insult Pai Mei or did he just fail to see the generous social gesture? The motives of the monk remain unknown. What is known, are the consequences. The next morning Pai Mei appeared at the Shaolin Temple and demanded of the Temple's head abbot that he offer Pai Mei his neck to repay the insult. The Abbot at first tried to console Pai Mei, only to find Pai Mei was inconsolable. So began the massacre of the Shaolin Temple and all 60 of the monks inside at the fists of the White Lotus. And so began the legend of Pai Mei's five point palm exploding heart technique.

The comic genre really started it's boom period after Blade hit in 1998. Since then, Marvel's gotten 2 X-Men movies, 2 Spider-Man movies, The Punisher, The Hulk, Daredevil and another Blade movie. Within the next year, they have Fantastic Four, Elektra and yet another Blade movie. DC Comics is owned by AOL Time Warner. DC has gotten...Catwoman. And they have an adaptation of Hellblazer (call Constantine, as to not confuse people) coming in the new year. I'll believe that Watchmen is coming when I see a trailer.

That's the only place I've seen it said as "confirmed". Since then almost every news outlet's carried it with the question mark at the end, as if it's still up-in-the-air. And IMDb, usually he first to post new casting, still hasn't got Hanks listed on the film's page. It's not confirmed, Variety just jumped the gun and turned rumor into fact. Now, it prolly WILL be made gospel this week, but still.

"DC has gotten...Catwoman. And they have an adaptation of Hellblazer (call Constantine, as to not confuse people) coming in the new year. I'll believe that Watchmen is coming when I see a trailer."

And now Batman Begins and Superman, which tends to suggest that they've cottoned on to the benefits of the genre and are gonna start pushing it a li'l harder. Don't be so negative-there's a great director in place, a shooting schedule sorted and a budget decided. There is no evidence to suggest that it's going to get screwed-up.

Well, never say never I suppose. After all, we live in a world where they actually did make Alien Vs. Predator and Freddy vs. Jason. But it should be obvious to anyone paying attention that Watchment is currently firmly in development hell. Greengrass is what, the fifth director attached to the project so far? Who says he'll still be attached at the end of the week? And a schedule and a budgett mean very little when you haven't even cast a single part yet. So what I'm saying is, maybe they will make the movie, but I wouldn't expect it any time soon.

Especially without Pixar involved. I just don't see what else they can do. The first two films were just about perfect. They probably won't get the original voice cast either. Yuk!

I stress that this is only a rumor, but even knowing that there's a good chance it won't turn out to be true, I still can't quite bring myself to mention which talentless jackass is being considered for the role...

(Of course, with that in mind, it is worth remembering that Ash wasn't really Ash for most of the first Evil Dead. For at least 3/4 of the movie, he was just another scared victim, and even once he started fighting back, he never really kicked it up to 11 like he did in the two sequels.)

He may well be in "The Da Vinci Code", but Tom Hanks has said pretty unequivically that he will not play Woody again if Pixar's not making the movie. (Disney owns Tim Allen's soul, however, so I'd be shocked if he didn't reprise Buzz Lightyear.)

I think it almost goes without saying that John Ratzenberger will remain loyal to Pixar as well.

WB's track record and general stupidity is evidence enough. They spent over $135 million on Catwoman which was released THIS YEAR. And then there's the abomination that is Constantine which comes out NEXT YEAR, the same year as Batman Begins. Basically, I don't trust WB since they obviously hate making money.

Here's the thing: AOL Time Warner is a legitimately huge and rich company. DC Comics is just a division of it, and the cross-licensing between the movie and comic divisions don't really make them rich.

Marvel got out of bankrupcy thanks to their films. Check this (figures from Box Office Mojo), since Blade:

BLADE [1998] Cost ~$50M, Grossed $131M worldwide
X-MEN [2000] Cost $97M, Grossed $295M worldwide
SPIDER-MAN [2002] Cost $189M, Grossed $821M worldwide
BLADE II [2002] Cost $79M, Grossed $155M worldwide
DAREDEVIL [2003] Cost $123M, Grossed $179M worldwide
X2: X-MEN UNITED [2003] Cost $150M, Grossed $406M worldwide
THE HULK [2003] Cost $172M, Grossed $245M worldwide
SPIDER-MAN 2 [2004] Cost $250M, Grossed $783M worldwide
THE PUNISHER [2004] Cost $55M, Grossed $54M worldwide

If you include DVD sales (and the Marvel accountants do), every single movie Marvel's made during the boom has made money. DC's return salvo, CATWOMAN [2004], cost an estimated $135 million and grossed $80 million worldwide. Not a good start. And when you look to this year's slate of films [Blade Trinity, Elektra & Fantastic Four from Marvel pitted against Constantine (Hellblazer) and Batman Begins], it looks early-on that Marvel may have another strong financial year on the basis of their movie licensing deals.

Fair enough as far as the figures, but as much money as the Blade Trinity and the Fantastic Four movies will make, I'm pretty sure that the Elektra movie will bomb pretty badly. Daredevil made a lot of money, but most of that is because it had Affleck and Garner in it. I've yet to meet a person who really, really likes the Daredevil movie enough to see a sequel or spin-off. The Fantastic Four movie is still up in the air.

On the other hand, Batman Begins will probably make a LOT of bank, because there's a lot of talk about it already and a ton of people eager to see it. Keanu Reeves was a terrible choice to play Constantine, but people tend to flock to his movies anyway...Hell, even the third Matrix movie made money.

You're also not taking into account the new Superman movie, which is going to rake in a LOT of cash.

You haven't met anyone in my family then. Out of all the Marvel super hero movies, Daredevil was the one *I* enjoyed most. This said even though I was a Spiderman/Wolverine/X-Men nut growing up. And my youngest enjoyed it enough to have wanted to be him for Halloween last year, even though that was the only time he'd ever seen DD.

As for Affleck and Garner. Garner is in the Elecktra movie and the most comments I've heard about Affleck and DareDevil is in the variety of "I can't believe they think Affleck would make a good Daredevil." Typically from people who refused to see the movie.
