CNN is reporting this as a breaking news banner.
No direct links yet, although it is on the radio as well.

Color me nervous, because Powell was the moderate non-hawkish voice in the Bush war council. I guess hell retire to the lecture circuit, and make millions. I dont think he has presidential aspirations, but I can almost guarantee a "Draft Colin Powell '08" campaign is underway as we speak.

I think Powell did a great job as secretary, in spite of the rest of Bush's people undercutting him. I cringe when I think how much more screwed up Iraq would have been without Powell's input. He probably saved thousands of lives.

This isn't very good at all. A lot of the moderates (including myself) and lefties viewed Powell as the only stable force in the Bush administration. Honestly, he is the only one in W's "figureheads" that I trusted.

Also, a lot of world leaders seemed to like him and he seemed to be good at foreign diplomacy in my opinion.

It seems like a lot of people want out of W's way before he starts his second term.....

Rock, as popular as Powell is, sadly I don't think people would be ready for an African-American President yet. However, here is to hoping that the Reps run a McCain/Powell card in '08!!!

Hmmmmm, this would be interesting.

An African American going up against a woman in 2008?

I don't think America is ready for either.

There is always heavy turnover in Cabinets of a 2 term President. Reagan had Haig and then (Sgt) Schultz as his Secretary's of State. Clinton had Mr. Charisma Warren Christopher and Albright as Secretary's of State. Thus, W will have 2 Secretary's of State. Now, Powell will go make money on the lecture/cable TV circuit.
Maybe I'm going out on a limb here in terms of Powell's successor, but would a return of James Baker to the position be a shock? Has had the position, is viewed as a stabilizing force, and could be brought slightly into the limelight as a fallback position should Cheney suffer another heart attack and the Republicans go with a person as a V.P. that wouldn't be a contender for the Presidency in '08. Either that, or Luger.

Let's end this. It was a stupid troll. Colin-Powell is obviously an African-American.

Drudge is implying that Condoleeza Rice will be the next Secretary of State. I'm sure she'll do a damn fine job of building another stellar "coalition of the willing" for the next invasion.

And yes, Rice and Powell are white. They were traded to the Caucasians during the Chapelle Racial Draft. Get your facts straight, honkies! =)

Well, there goes the last voice of reason in the White House.

On another note, I just got this crazy idea of Powell running against Obama for President somewhere in the future. It would never happen, but it'd be pretty neat.

www.cnn.com. Rice is the nominee to replace Powell at State. Not a huge surprise, but now Rice does have to go before the Senate for confirmation, something that wasn't necessary for the NSA position. That last part could be an important part of the domino effect, as it means Bush can put Wolfowitz in as NSA without having to put him before the Senate, who would probably have rejected him. If Moe's theory is that the Bush Presidency goes down due to a disaster, better than even money the disaster will come out of Wolfowitz as NSA.

RSN, you totally just ruined my day.

Wolfowitz as NSA? After all the empty rhetoric from the 2004 campaign, I had completely forgotten that "Banging your head into a brick wall" feeling that the Bush Administration gives me. Ugh.

I cant figure out for the life of me what Rice has done to merit a promotion. But I figure Wolfowitz cant do any worse as NSA than Rice has. Doesnt matter, it seems Condi's topp assistant will succeed her.

RICE: May I address the question, sir? The fact is that this August 6th PDB was in response to the president’s questions about whether or not something might happen or something might be planned by al Qaeda inside the United States...Commissioner, this was not a warning. This was a historic memo—historical memo prepared by the agency because the president was asking questions about what we knew about the inside.

Nevertheless, FBI information since that time indicates patterns of suspicious activity in this country consistent with preparations for hijackings or other types of attacks, including recent surveillance of federal buildings in New York.

WHAT THE FUCK?!? That wasn't a warning? Does she even know what "warning" means? The National Security Advisor HAS TO KNOW WHAT THE WORD "WARNING" MEANS. If you can't swing a tennis racket, you can't play tennis. If you can't define the word "warning," you can't advise anyone on matters of security. Where the hell is the Liberal media on this?

Come on, shes not protesting the US. Shes protesting against a specific area of government policy. Personally I have no time for the monarchy in my country and take issue with having 'God save the Queen' as my national anthem.
