Good call, IMHO. He knows how Torre likes to manage, and played with a handful of the guys on the field in the championship years. This should be a good fit. And he'll be catching instructor too, and as Posada could tell you, he makes a pretty solid mentor.
But Stottlemyre? I'm not sure, given how unhappy he's been in the past couple years. Still, probably a better call than Neil Allen, and it's not as though they could get Guidry to leave the bayou.
I have seen the future of stand up and he is bike cheese.
Crap. I was hoping the Marlins would get Girardi as their bench coach, then let him manage when McKeon retired. That was the word going around, anyway.
Eh, I guess we'll have to settle for Larry Bowa as bench coach.
That's a shame about Gooden. Looking at his numbers from '84 to '86 (when he was only 19 to 21), he could have been one of the best ever. Even with all the problems he had, his career was still pretty damned good (194-112 career).
