There is actually one member of our D'Backs season ticket consortium who doesn't understand why several of the rest of us aren't necessarily 100% on-board for season tickets next year. Yeeeesh.

Ooops.
Of course, there is a potential lawsuit issue here as well. He backed out of the Mets search to take the D-Backs job. It's not his fault that they didn't do their homework...
I think the biggest indictments of Backman are these two lines from the ESPN.com article:
Backman was asked in his final interview whether there was anything in his past that the Diamondbacks should know, and he answered no, Kendrick said.
"Had we, at the time we made the decision, had all the facts that we ended up having, we would not have named Wally our manager," Kendrick said.
This is just George O'Leary all over again. Maybe if Backman had been forthright about his past he'd still be the manager, despite Kendrick's comment that he wouldn't have been hired.
And I like Bob Melvin and didn't necessarily think the M's should have fired him, but MAN is he set up to fail or WHAT?

I haven't really heard definatively what happened in his past yet, so i could wind up being wrong. But is it something so egregious that he can't manage a baseball team. I know he's sort of a public face of the organization, but let's not act like the team wouldn't hire a star player who's had some kind of legal trouble in the past. Of course, if he did lie about it, that certainly isn't a good thing for his case....
Originally posted by Tony StewartI don't know if those problems really warrant a firing like that. I doubt he'll ever get another shot at a MLB managing job.
Bob Melvin on the other hand doesn't seem like much more than maybe a .500 manager.
I'll give Melvin credit for this: With a team that was out of it before Memorial Day, they showed incredible signs of life in the last month and played Boston, Anaheim, Texas and Oakland tough in September, playing the role of an active spoiler. At the very least, its a sign his team didn't quit.

Could he really sue over a job he never had (because he wasn't under contract)?
All the D'Backs have to argue in court is that his previous actions would violate some morals clause or the like and they just let him go so he and they could pursue other avenues.
And now, for a limited time only, it rhymes with "door hinge!"
