HOW MANY TIMES was Madden going to insist that Justin McCareins put the ball over the pylon OUT-of-bounds, when the replay CLEARLY showed his WRIST going OVER the pylon with the ball INSIDE the pylon?!?!?! "The plane of the goal line goes around the world." AHHHHHH! SHUT UP! Look at the replay! He was IN bounds!

Madden has been on a steady decline ever since he left CBS for FOX after the '93 season, and has become a parody of himself. Then again, I was always more of a fan of Enberg/Olsen than of Summerall/Madden back in each's heyday.

Sad how a tennis announcer and flower salesman is seen as being superior to what the public usually considered the best announce team ever.

I stopped watching MNF because I cant stomach Al Michaels any longer. With Madden, you know what you are getting, an old, simpleton who really loves the game. He may mess up a bit, but at least he isnt Al, making statements just to hear himself talk.

Put Michaels and Bob Costas in a rocket and shoot them into space, and I wouldnt shed one single tear. (except for the rocket).

I don't mind you bashing Olsen, but I WILL NOT stand for you dissing the great man, Dick Enberg. He's one of the all-time greats, and growing up in an AFC market, his being at the games made them seem like bigger deals, especially since he did Wimbledon and college basketball and stuff that was always important.

I always liked Don Criqui and Bob Trumpy, too.

Don Criqui!!! Love him.

I'd kill to hear Al DiRogotas and Charley Jones (I think they were an NBC team during the 70s) again.

Indeed, Charley Jones was a FABULOUS play-by-play guy. Some of the boys at FOX should get some old NBC tapes and take some lessons.

Football only, I hope. Jones may have done a decent job in the 70's and on Chargers games... but the guy was flat-out awful and out of his element as the Rockies' play-by-play man from 1993 to 1996. Perhaps the worst moment in baseball broadcast history: in 1995, he asked fans to mail in cut-out paper stars to Larry Walker. "Larry can hang them above his locker..I can see it now: Larry with all the fans' stars!" He would announce wild pitches and passed balls as "out of play". Different sport. Different era. Different Charley. But man, was he terrible. He almost trumped Lyle Alzado's classic line of: "he's becoming a...a...new good player!!". In 1996, Jones demanded a lifetime contract and a deluxe loft in downtown Denver, since he considered himself "the voice of the Rockies". Thankfully, that deal never went down.

I thought Dan Fouts was good. He was stuck into the Dennis Miller experiment and, IMO, was unfairly given a stigma. Al Michaels is pretty much the ruler of MNF. I was a little put off when they decided to air old clips and talk about his Cincinnati Reds days during the Bengals-Donkies game. That reeked of "hail to me".

It's sad that there's not a decent football TV broadcast team out there. I routinely mute my TV and turn on the local radio for Donkey games. They're homers, but they call the formations, personnel changes and rarely go off on tangents.

Of course, Al Michaels will always be known for the "Do you believe in miracles?" call...

...but his "He did WHAT?" call after Antonio Freeman beat Minnesota in OT back in 2000 will always be my favorite.

I always try to find a Westwood One radio football game on Sunday. I have a soft spot for Harry Kalas (he's not just for baseball anymore) and I really like Jack Ham's color work. The other guys they have on there (Bob Trumpy, Joel Meyers, Rick Walker, etc..) are also very good. It makes my Sundays on the road (at least twice a month) much easier to get national broadcasts instead of HORRIBLE local ones (*cough* Steelers *cough*).

On Mondays, I'm split on whether or not I like the radio crew. Marv Albert is Marv Albert (I think I like him, but I'm never really sure) and while I didn't like Boomer on TV, I like him on the radio. Either way, I'd say they're better than Madden and co half the time.

Speaking of local Donkeys radio, I think Dave Logan is pretty bad on play-by-play, in the sense it seems like he's always five seconds behind in making a call ("And that is. . . . . . . .CAUGHT. . .by Rod Smith").

And to kind of bring this back on topic, I started hating Al Michaels the minute I first heard him during NBA telecasts. What was wrong with Brad Nessler?

Madden brings the big game feel to Mondays. I liked him better with Summerall, but I've always been a big mark for Summerall's dead-pan delivery and his kicker insight.

The guy I can't stand is Tony Siragusa. Talk about a big fat blow-hole.
