Jude Law makes a lot of movies. He's also a good actor. As a public service, here's a brief overview of the films he's made from 2001 until the end of this year.

Enemy of the Gates [2001, Directed by Jean-Jacques Annaud] Tight World War II drama about two snipers on opposite sides of the Battle of Stalingrad. Law's the Russian sniper, Ed Harris is the German sniper.

A.I. Artificial Intelligence [2001, Directed by Steven Spielberg] Old Stanley Kubrick project taken up by Spielberg after his death. Law plays Gigolo Joe, a gigolo robot who befriends another robot played by Haley Joel Osment. Law got a Golden Globe nomination for an Actor in a Supporting Role.

Road to Perdition [2002, Directed by Sam Mendes] Continuing his hot streak, Law worked with another director in another great film. This time, he played a mob assassin sent to kill Tom Hanks' character. Law's overshadowed by Hanks and Paul Newman, but is never out of his depth.

Cold Mountain [2003, Directed by Anthony Minghella] Another solid film, with Law playing a Civil War soldier who deserts so he can return home to his lover (Nicole Kidman), all while trying to avoid getting killed for deserting. Law got Academy Award & Golden Globe nominations for Actor in a Leading Role.

Sky Captain & the World of Tomorrow [2004; Directed by Kerry Conran] Allegedly solid film about a futuristic world under attack for some reason. The acting was good, but was overshadowed by the gimmicky nature of the film (everything was CGI except for the actors).

I Heart Huckabees [2004; Directed by David O. Russell] Law delivered a solid performance as Jason Schwartzman's nemesis in a damn confusing film. Some people will love it, others will hate it. The acting's good, though.

Alfie [2004; Directed by Charles Shyer] Remake of the 1966 Michael Caine comedy. Out this Friday.

Closer [2004; Directed by Mike Nichols] The trailer makes the film look like a bizarre love...uh...square involving Law, Clive Owen, Natalie Portman & Julia Roberts. Out December 12th.

Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events [2004; Directed by Brad Silberling] Law gets second billing as the Narrator of the film. Out December 17th.

The Aviator [2004; Directed by Martin Scorsese] Law plays Errol Flynn (briefly) in the story of Howard Hughes' life, out Christmas Day.

Thoughts?

Granted, I haven't seen I Heart Huckabees, but Jude Law has been one of my favorite actors for awhile. I know you're a film nut Freeway, so I have to ask you, why did you leave out his role in The Talented Mr. Ripley? He was very good in that film for what was asked of him and it is easily my favorite performance of his. It would have been rather easy to catalog his roles since 1999.

That being said, I'm not really sure what you're looking for in this thread. Yes, he's a fine actor but there are other actors out there who are better than him.

After the credits rolled, I asked my wife "If we give them another $7 do you think they'll give us an ending?"

Jude Law was fabulous in it tho. He was the best thing about A.I. too.

I liked him best in Gattaca, eXistenZ and Cold Mountain. A lot of guys hate on him for the same reason Brad Pitt and Leo Dicaprio gets hated on. Jealousy. They all may be girly pretty boys but they can all act. With Jude Law being the best of the bunch followed by pitt (when motivated). I haven't seen any of his 2004 movies yet, but I actually can't think of a bad Jude Law performance. Even though he is 32, he enternally looks like he is 19, which is why he may not get any Oscar cred until he is a little older. Damn good actor, oscar or not.

I am just glad he wasn't the rumored new Superman. He deserves so much better then that.

With Jude Law being in every second film this year, I think it's time everyone sees how awesomely varied his stuff is. Plus, he's managed not to get tangled up with bizarre franchises (Star Wars, comic book movies, etc) and worked with MANY great directors.

"I still say he would've made an AWESOME Spider-Man."

If by "awesome" you mean "least believable geeky photographer EVER", right on! How would anyone believe that Peter Parker had trouble getting dates?

Once upon a time in China, some believe, around the year one double-ought three, head priest of the White Lotus Clan, Pai Mei was walking down the road, contemplating whatever it is that a man of Pai Mei's infinite power contemplates - which is another way of saying "who knows" - when a Shaolin monk appeared, traveling in the opposite direction. As the monk and the priest crossed paths, Pai Mei, in a practically unfathomable display of generosity, gave the monk the slightest of nods. The nod was not returned. Now was it the intention of the Shaolin monk to insult Pai Mei or did he just fail to see the generous social gesture? The motives of the monk remain unknown. What is known, are the consequences. The next morning Pai Mei appeared at the Shaolin Temple and demanded of the Temple's head abbot that he offer Pai Mei his neck to repay the insult. The Abbot at first tried to console Pai Mei, only to find Pai Mei was inconsolable. So began the massacre of the Shaolin Temple and all 60 of the monks inside at the fists of the White Lotus. And so began the legend of Pai Mei's five point palm exploding heart technique.

Jude was also in Wilde.

EDIT: Oops, just noticed that this is for 2001-on. I did like Road to Perdition, and laughed everytime I saw or read a reviewer ask what the title meant.

Yikes. Just saw a bit of Alfie during a screening Paramount hosted at my moviehouse. God damn, that's a bad movie. Avoid. Little old ladies left and bitched about it...and we're talking about a FREE MOVIE.

Jon Popick of Planet Sick-Boy called it "A remake that deserves to be put in a burlap sack and drowned like a litter of kittens"

There's a rumor going around that Jude might play General Zod in the upcoming Superman movie. Take with grain of salt.

I would too, with a title like that you'd assume it had something to do with 80s TV series Alf.

....or the 60s film of the same name that it's a remake of.

Saw it on Wednesday. It's certainly not a bad movie and Law is excellent in it, but it doesn't do well by comparison with the original. Still, it's probably destined to become his signature role for the time being.
