But Jake has a better look than Danny, though I agree he probably isn't a whole lot better in the promo department. The biggest advantage for Jake is that he has a good physique plus the stamina of a much smaller, quicker guy--that's a pretty unique combination. Danny was missing at least two-thirds of the necessary elements--physique and charisma. Sure, he did well at the obstacle course, but as tough as that is, it probably has the least bearing on success as a wrestler. And executing the moves well is important as far as preventing injury, but if you can't make the audience care about what you're doing, it's a waste of time since there are no longer jobbers and everyone has to pull his or her weight as far as the audience reaction is concerned.

I get the feeling they assume that people have watched the first show and for some reason they think they don't have to show this group of people learning each move since we already saw the last group learning them. Also, they focus on the extremes of the group--we either see people doing great or people about to wash out, which means we don't see much of the majority of the group.

This group is more entertaining as a whole, but I'd like to see more ring training and less of the obstacle course. Hawk is fun to watch when he's spazzing around the house, but the others aren't as interesting.

I think there was just as much drama in the cuts last season. Remember the ritual of opening the locker? I think if anything the way they're doing it this time is less dramatic.

Making poor Danny stand there and wait for the axe to fall on his head, while Al is passing back and forth between each cast memeber is brutal. The cutting procedure now is just humiliating. Can you imagine when its one of the girls? Can you imagine the bawling meltdown Jesse will have when Al gets to her? Not good TV to me. Too much MTV not enough WWF. Im not liking this at all.

I think you guys are missing the point a little. It's a TV show, really a game show, but manipulated to attempt to goose the ratings.

While it's obvious that Jesse and Alicia are going to be cut at some point, both of them have become focal points of the shows. Alicia is being built up as a lazy bitch, and Jesse is the little cutish girl who doesn't really stand a chance. Once they cut them, a lot of the dramatic tension will be gone from the show, just like when they finally got rid of Darryl last year. With the ratings weaker this year (probably being due to first-run network competition), they have to be a little more careful about cutting the most interesting cast members too soon.

The other two girls seem almost identical to me at this point. I can't really tell them apart, but either one could work in the WWF (or developmental territories). Neither one has shown much in the way of personality yet. They could both pass for a Tori type.

As far a Danny, that promo was really bad. And he seemed clueless when they were trying to give him guidance. If you could get a spot on the roster for distinctive running, then Shane McMahon would be the most influential guy the WWF has.

We know from leaks that one of the guys gets injured and has to drop out, because he got a tryout a few weeks ago with HWA, and although they've done a pretty good job of hiding who it is, I have a feeling that it's going to be Matt, the big dumb farmboy dude. If it's not him, he ought to be a finalist.

Jake has to be the front-runner at this point, but we also have to remember that last season at this point, Maven hardly had any air time at all. As there are fewer people in the house, the personality dynamics change and we get to see more time devoted to the remaining contestants. And Jake will run into trouble if they send him to HWA or OVW and he comes face to face with Prototype. They look like freakin' twins.

As for Hawk, he seems too unstable to make it through the series, but they could be playing that up so that he can be a dark horse. Ratting out Alicia adds to his mucked-up persona. In the WWF, I don't see him surviving his first ribbing.

On the whole, I like the way the shows are presented better this year, but last year's cast seemed more interesting. Lots of blandoids on this year's roster.

All I knows is, the fact that so few of them seemed to be able to cut a promo without laughing was just sad. That's the absolute last thing I would do, is laugh. You might as well write "NO, WHEN IT COMES RIGHT DOWN TO IT, I CAN'T REALLY TAKE WRESTLING SERIOUSLY" on your forehead. Yeah, I know it was probably nervous laughter... but I consider it way worse than failing to be interesting, since you're effectively pooping on the whole IDEA of a promo.

Honestly, I don't see what all the complaining is about.

The show isn't really about being "Tough Enough". It wasn't the first season either. Danny was good in the ring, yes. He certainly seemed to be getting what he was doing, but he was cut for a reason. This show is "Who would we (the WWF) put on Television)." If they wouldn't put Danny on TV (and I wouldn't), then it's their perogative to decide to cut him. Just like it was their perogative to cut Robert (because he was fat) and Aaron (because he was stupid). The girls, like it or not, could feasibly be on the show.

Either Alicia or Jessie (moreso Jessie I think) could get a spot as a valet. I know this is supposed to be a "wrestler" contract, but I doubt that Nidia (if she ever makes it to WWF TV again) will be a wrestler. It all depends on what they're looking for with the women, how serious are they about making a run at the women's division? If not so much, then it doesn't matter if they're injured or sick, the girls can make it through without being perfect wrestlers.

Honestly, if I were the WWF, this is what I'd be looking at. You can teach the pretty looking valets to wrestle, but you can't teach the beefy women to be pretty valets (no not even Chyna). Who gets a bigger reaction? Who'll get people to spend more money on their Divas poster? Isn't that what the WWF is Really looking for? It's who will their fans be more apt to get behind (excuse the pun).

For the men, they're looking for wrestlers. But look matters. The other guys have a better look than Danny. It's less "Tough Enough" and more "Well-Rounded Enough". Hopefully they find somebody.

Actually, the show is "Who would MTV put on television." It's The Real World Goes To Wrestling School. Whether or not any of these people ever make an appearance on a WWF program is secondary.

The MTV people had an equal hand in picking the cast, and I can guarantee they have a say in who gets cut. After all, ultimately it's their show.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and suggest it's somewhere between what the two of you said. On the one hand, this is MTV's show, and they certainly have some involvement. On the other hand, the WWF is obligated to pay real American money to the winner(s) of this contest, so I don't think MTV has the final and only say. Do you think that Vince is just going to sit there quietly while MTV tells him who he should hire?

So maybe Lisa has a point about America being the land of opportunity, and maybe Adil has a point about the machinery of capitalism being oiled with the blood of the workers.

Do I lie to myself to be happy? In your case, Teddy, I think I can.

Actually, I'm not entirely sure the WWF is obligated to pay anybody anything. The TE winner is awarded "a WWF contract," the terms of which have never, to my knowledge, been made public. As far as any salary the winner is paid during the duration of said contract, who's to say whether or not MTV picks up a hefty portion of said salary?

I"m sure you're right that MTV doesn't have the "final" say, but they do have a hand in the decision-making process. And with TV ratings down across the board, I'm sure Vince is willing to bend over backwards for this kind of cross-promotion show.

Last week's thread, but why open a new one when we can just use this one.

Two things...

Jake's stock seems to be going down as they focus more on personality. Interesting. What I've noticed this time around is that the physical stuff is almost a given, at least with the guys [now that Robert is gone] and the real competition involves things like promos. I wonder if some of that is because Maven, though he's sort of over due to Tough Enough, doesn't seem to have much to offer right now as far as talking ability.

And I haven't had a whole lot of criticism on how they're doing stuff so far, until now. I think the obstacle course thing is a bad idea. They've now lost two people because of it, though admittedly Aaron didn't do himself any favors by taking a stimulant beforehand. I know the name of the show is Tough Enough, and they have to have physical challenges outside of wrestling, but it seems like the obstacle course is just a good opportunity for someone to be injured outside the ring each week.

I still think if they sold the division correctly, then the beefy ones could get reaction and fan interest. I think they could really use one or two more "big" girls to put on matches which look more like real matches and be dominant players in the division. Add a little bit of appeal in there (at least more than Jazz currently possesses) and I think you have a pretty good addition to the roster. But I am afraid you are right, and McMahon does just want pretty faces to be Divas and nothing more. Thus the two big girls on TE probably don't stand a chance, unfortunately.

Personally, I think Anni is hot. Also that Nidia is about as attractive as Triple H's dog...I still don't know how she beat Taylor. I guess Taylor must have screwed up during the interview process with Vince or something.

To use a poker analogy, in Vince's little card game, D-cup beats B-cup every time.

But if they're serious about the women's division, they should look into bringing Taylor back. She's hot, and she can wrestle.

I understand that Matt (dropped out of last weeks Tough Enough), was invited to try out at the Indytastic WWF Camp a few months ago. Don't know if he got a contract or anything, but I just thought I'd pass this on.
