not worst wrestler, mind you. rather the run with the top belt that was most disappointing, that you thought, 'hey, this is going to be cool, but then wasn't.'
I'd say Sting's first run. The Ultimate Warrior's run. Angles 1st and 2nd runs. HHH's 1st run. Jerry Lynn holding the ECW title. and Orton's run.
All of those seemed like they'd lead to something great but all fizzled.
With Eddy I'd agree. With Benoit, I'd say his reign was good. Had great matches with Shawn, HHH, Orton, even Kane. While it didn't last long and that's disappointing, his reign itself was enjoyable. It lived up to the hype, for me.
Well I'm gonna go back to the old WWWF and say Mr. Stan Stasiak. Not because I've seen one of his matches, it's just because he's directly related to Shawn Stasiak. That + the heart punch = disaster. Still that reign only lasted eight days.
Worst recent reign would either go to Angle's two week reign in 2001 and Hulk Hogan's in 2002.
The Jericho unified title reign fell to pieces at the end in miserable fashion, but I was more devastated when he dropped the WCW Title back to Rock two weeks after his huge winning of the big one at No Mercy '01.
Also worth mentioning is Triple H's big glorious babyface run with the belt (March 2002) that lasted a month and was dead before it even started.
However, I would definitely pick Eddie, who got hung out to dry after Wrestlemania and lost every match without comeuppance to the racist who gave his mom a heart attack.
I'd say Kevin Nash's WWF reign from late 1994 to late 1995.
It's the longest reign of the last decade, just a few days shy of a year and in that whole time he never drew money, never got over, and had maybe one or two good matches, none of which had anything to do with him.
Edit: The purpose of Eddy's reign was to put over Bradshaw? I highly doubt they were planning JBL's main event position in February when Eddy won it. Eddy got the title because Brock and Goldberg were both leaving, and because the fans demanded he be rewarded for fifteen years of brilliant work. It may have ended badly, but the reign itself was fun, and yielded good matches.

He did have more than two good matches during his reign, but it's not more than two by that much.

I'll agree ut wasn't planned that way, but after a quick feud w/ Angle, that's pretty much all his reign became - 3 months of putting JBL over.
I think some people missed the point of the thread - reigns that started out promising, but turned out to be disappointing. Did anyone have high hopes for Ronnie Garvin's reign? Or Russo's? Or Arquette's?
Worst reign? And no one ever mentions this. Kane. A 23-hour reign? what a joke. Both the WWE and WCW produced a roll call of shameless self-promotion and utter crap. Vince McMahon, Vince Russo, Jarrett, Arquette, the names already mentioned in earlier posts, etc.
Yeah, the shit that WCW did at the end was horrible and will never be topped so long as WWE is overseen by people who know wrestling (in comparison to Vinny Ru).
I have to also agree with Kane as being pretty bad. Why did they give him the belt? Does anyone know? I've heard old Vince Russo wanted to do a switch on Raw, and I've heard that they couldn't get clearance to do the burning himself angle? Either of them true?
Vince McMahon's reign...well he's got a HUGE ego so....
I'd say that recently Eddy and JBL have been busts. Now, I like both of them so that's not the issue. It just seems in both cases that they might has well have put the belt on Spike Dudley because the champ was never portrayed as teh best.
Most definitley Chris Jericho. When he won, I thought that maybe we'd finally have a new guy in the main-events to break up the monotiny (sp?) of Austin, Rock, Hunter, 'Taker, Angle, Rinse, and Repeat. I thought I'd have it with RVD, but this was around the time that he started being shunted back down to the mid-card, so I put all my hopes on Jericho. He won the title, I was excited, and then he ended up doing a bunch of mid-card matches with Maven and Tazz, while the same old guys took up all the spaces on top. The very definition of dissapointment.
I'd also say Eddie Guerrero, as he ended up being sort of a transitional champion, as well as Bob Backlund. At first, I thought Backlund didn't deserve to be anywhere near the belt. But, by the time he won the thing, I was intrigued by his new crazy-old-man gimmick (which he played to perfection). However, he then ended up losing the belt mere days later.
The answer to WWE's financial problems...
Never 'Wiener of the Day', and is actually quite bitter about it.
Kane won the title from Stone Cold Steve Austin at a time where the powers that be sold the fact that it took two people to beat him (Kane & the Undertaker). Of course, they also sold the fact that Kane had a sense of honor, since he WILLINGLY gave Austin a rematch the next night. Kane was shown to be a strong competitor...who was dumb enough to give Stone Cold a rematch.
I thought that Scott Steiner's WCW title reign would lead to a pretty good showdown with Goldberg, but... you know, stuff happens.
Sting's world title win at Starrcade proved to pretty worthless as well, as the title was held up until Superbrawl, and he only held it for 2 months before dropping it to Savage, who in turn dropped it to Hogan. Beautiful.
Luger's reign in 97, not so much because I like Luger, but because of the fact that they ended up doing the exact same match at Road Wild that Sunday, and Luger ended up dropping the title back to Hogan.
The Big Show's first reign... hey, I thought they were gonna do something interesting with him, but then they put him in a feud with Bossman of all people, and he ends up being a lameduck champ until HHH won it back. Same deal with Mankind's 3rd reign that lasted all of one day until HHH won it for the first time.
I could just put a whole but load of transitional champions in here. I'm not because I view each title reign as unique. Though I despise the fact that JBL is a World Champion. Back before I knew the ins and out of wrestling. I couldn't stand to see heel champions but I guess that probably comes with being a common mark.
Anyways, I'd probably say the lack luster 6th championship run for Hogan if anybody in particular. Even though I loved the nostalgia.
