Is it me or this angle that John Cena was stabbed at a nightclub when in reality he's shooting a movie in horrible taste?

An injury angle is nothing new of course, they just did this week again at Taboo Tuesday with Kane now out to shoot his movie Eye Scream Man, but saying a wrestler was stabbed at a bar, and may lose a kidney? I have been and always will be a huge WWE fan and I seriously said during last nights SD! the WWE are a$$holes for an doing an angle like this and now telling fans Cena needs their support and if you want to send your best wishes to John go to WWE.com? Also saying Carlito was possibly involved too to make it a good angle when he does come back.

There are kids who watch wrestling and even some idiot adults who don't know its fake and really do think Cena is hurt. I have no doubt the little kids I seen at the SD! taping with blow-up "You can't see me" hands, and wearing Cena shirts few weeks ago don't know its entirely fake and when they were told that Cena was stabbed I hope their parents where watching and went over the whole story thing. It's remote but kids look up to guys like Cena being larger then life character, and hell even some what role models.

If you need to write off a character then fine do the injury angle and not really mention him till he's coming back or just don't have him wrestle as much if at all, but don't use a horrible potential real-life occurrence like a stabbing to explain your companies talent doing other projects for you company.

The WWE has some sense of responsibility here and they totally dropped the ball on this. SD! is a prime time show and the TV rating is geared toward kids-teenagers. If this were RAW the subject matter might be a little forgivable and even still inappropriate.

It's been done before. Remember Hogan getting crushed by Earthquake?

How is it in bad taste? What responsibility does the WWE have? Cena's not gonna give birth to a hand or be accused of murdering and sleeping with somebody, so how is it bad taste? It's along the lines of "Well, Cena's gone, but we want you to remember him so we can make money off his return."

Ah I think its in bad taste only because Paul Pierce was stabbed in a Boston night club a few years back. But honestly its a wrestling angle that wouldn't even crack the top 10 of bad taste angles they have done recently. It also is another in a long line of moves to bring back kayfabe.

When I first read that thread header, I thought "Cena Stabbed (Kurt) Angle" ... I wondered if I had totally been out of the loop.

While I'm not sure if this is in bad taste (relatively in terms of wrestling), it's bad business for WWE to pull stuff like a letter-writing campaign.

How? Like LanceJr said, there are going to be young viewers who think Cena is legitimately hurt, and will write letters, etc. And if/when they find out WWE was just working them to further a feud, they'll be pissed off that they were so gullible.

Do the injury angle, fine. Post updates on Cena's condition every week if that's what you want to do. If Little John Mark out there wants to write a letter, fine. But don't suggest to fans that they should write get-well cards to someone who's not at all hurt. It's going to come back and haunt you one day...

If they wanted to be tasteless, then they could play up the fact that this is not the first connection the Colon family has had to a wrestler being stabbed.

The WWE seems to be booking/writing for the people who came in during the Attitude years, who are now between 18 to 25. They buy the Cena shirts, they go to shows and buy PPVs. They are their target audience, so why not work an angle around that they might care about?

They've never come right out and said Cena was actually stabbed. They said he was "attacked" at a night club and suffered "puncture" wounds. He could've slipped and fell on a broken bottle when somebody pushed him or something.

Tazz said it last night, that "puncture wounds" was just code for "stabbed".

I'm not saying don't do the angle; not at all. It's a good way to keep Cena off TV for a while. I'm saying don't do something -- eg a letter-writing campaign -- where fans (especially younger ones) might be made to feel stupid at the end, especially for no reason. Because they may be scared away from watching later on.

I mean, the 18-25 year olds aren't likely the ones to send Cena a card; same thing with "Get Well, Hulk" and Matilda, etc. in earlier years. After all, how many adults try to write letters to professional wrestlers?

Er....

I know what you're saying, but they do this every year around this time. It's how they get a whole shitload of return adresses to start sending out "Buy WWE Merchandise" junk mail to right before Christmas (and who's going to buying WWE stuff for Christmas? Well, outside of this board, it'll be the exact same little kids that would send in letters).

Like I said, I agree with what you're saying, but they were going to do some kind of letter writing campaign, and this certainly isn't the stupidest one they've ever tried.

I did make the title of the thread like that on purpose.. 'Cena stabbed Angle' hahaha..sorry guys

But seriously I hear everything everyone is saying, and again not saying dont do a injury angle, but don't use something as serious as "puncture wounds" to where someone might lose a kidney, and then ask for letters of support.
Matt Hardy was thrown off a stage through "tables" in reality he had knee surgery, the Kane/Shitsky angle from Taboo Tuesday as I mentioned don't go into detail about how why he's out. Should have had Carlito hit him with the chain a few more or soemthing say he has concussions or something not "got attacked, and suffered puncture wounds"

I'm thinking they might use this somehow to turn Cena heel, a move which I would totally aplaud. Cena was so much more entertaining before he "caught on". Once he became a face, he had to kiss up to the crowd and repeat his lines over and over. Before he would just rip on the city and it's sports teams. Which is much more entertaining than "The champ is in the house!"

I just hope that he doesn't have to wear a jersey to the ring every match now, because that would too obviously give away the fact that he is a heel now. I mean if he just switches back and forth from wearing the home teams jersey or their rival for 2 years, it won't be worth anything. It will be less legitimate, IMHO.

Considering two TNA wrestlers were recently stabbed in a fight, I think they could have found another way to write him off TV.

Here's a novel idea:
Why doesn't WWE just tell its fans, "John Cena is filming a movie right now. He'll be back in a few weeks" ?

I'd rather Kidman SSP'ed him into oblivion. Get some heel heat on him, Carlito's doing fine as it is.

Yea, they did that with the Rock and it didn't work so well. Plus it gives him something to do when he comes back.
