How's everyone's favorite teams doing today? My White Sox are up 6-1 on the defending AL West champs and record-setters. So far, they look pretty good. Except they just took Buehrle out and put in Osuna. Baseball today and national championship tonight. What a great day!
Edit: Do any other Sox fans out there severly dislike Darrin Jackson? Earlier in the game, he said the Mariners and Sox were in a 1-0 tie. I long for the days of Hawk-Wimpy.

My Mets won 6 - 2, Alomar got his first opening day hit since 1996. Jay Payton hit a homerun which is great news, if he finally starts to live up to his potential than that makes our lineup even more awesome.
Kat: I too miss Wimpy. He and Hawk had wonderful repore, and made the game damned enjoyable. If I have to watch my middle relief make every game an adventure, the least I can do is like the announcers. I will say though, I would never have guessed Paciorek to be the first famous person to come out and admit being abused by a priest. You just don't expect that from an athlete. Very brave of him.

Q: If you could have interviewed Marvin Gaye, where would you have proposed to meet and what would you have asked him?
A: I would have met anywhere as long as it was before his father shot him. I would have asked him, "Hey, don't you think there's some chance that your father might shoot you? To death, I mean?"
Welllllll. The redbirds win their home opener behind matt morris 10-2. Morris had a very solid outing.. as did our 2nd catcher (i am not even going to attempt to spell his name). And the former Rookie of the year! 2 hits in 4 ab's w/3 runs scored and 3 rbi's. Woooooooooohoooooo!!!!!! this surely is a baseball town!
I am the JOBBER TO THE STARS. You better remember that.
And this one belongs to the Reds! The Reds actually showed some similance of a team pulling off a 5-4 win in dramatic fashion off Aaron Boone's sac fly to score Larkin. But our pitching sucks and 20 games into the season the bullpen will be wore out.
When you're riding in a time machine way far into the future, don't stick your elbow out the window, or it'll turn into a fossil.

The true test for the Mets comes this weekend against the Braves to see if this line-up can really live up to the hype. With that said, the sports writers in New York seemed to have already written off the chances of the Mets based on their Spring Training and Opening Day performance. Reading the New York Post you'd of thought that the Mets were damn lucky to win. I for one am willing to give the team a chance. Though if the Mets are in the same bad position at Memorial Day they were in last year then I'll complain.

What's the deal with Hawk and Wimpy not on Sox games anymore? Surely they didn't get rid of them on purpose??
You can put that one on the board EYEAHS!!!
Hawk is still there, still using his catchphrase. But Tom Paciorek left to spend more time with his family, I think. So now we have Darrin Jackson to deal with.

Tom Paciorek has been with the Braves over the past couple of years. He's recently become the de facto spokesperson against sexual abuse of children, after making public that he was molested by a family friend who later became a priest.
I have a bad feeling that Dunn is going to have an 'average' year. This is his first full season and everything I read has him pegged to hit 40+ homers. That is a lot of pressure to put on the kid.
The Reds pitching staff is going to give me an ulcer this year.
You're in a desert, walking along in the sand when all of a sudden you look down and see a tortoise. It's crawling towards you. You reach down and flip the tortoise over on its back. The tortoise lays on its back, its belly baking in the hot sun, beating its legs trying to turn itself over. But it can't. Not without your help. But you're not helping.
I think you can partially blame (if you want to call it that) the increased emphasis on maximizing on base average. The easiest way to guarantee a trip to 1B is to get a walk from the pitcher.
