(Not sure if this belongs in TV or Music, but since it's the video & not the song I'll try here...)

Michael Jackson is seeking to block networks from airing Eminem's new video, which (to say the least) is not a very flattering portrayal of Jackson.

Here's the story... (story.news.yahoo.com)

I can't imagine MTV would promote this video with a "Making The Video" feature, & then placate Jackson (who is pretty irrelevant) while pissing off Eminem.

EDIT: Of course when I called Jackson "irrelevant", I meant irrelevant currently to MTV & their core audience. Obviously Jackson's contributions to music & video over the years are not "irrelevant"! :-)

Okay, last one for today:

http://launch.yahoo.com/video/default.asp?vid=1112809

I really didn't care whether I'd seen the video for "Just Lose It" - apparently it was put online on the 4th - but given all the Michael Jackson public outrage, I decided I needed to jump through all of LAUNCH's (haha I typed LUNCH first) hoops and check it out. Geez, I expected a whole lot more JACKO. I think Pee-Wee Herman should be more outraged! Well, maybe not, but I DO know I like that Kanye West video a whole lot more. Did you know they blurred out the word VIDEOHOEFESHINAL on BET? You did? Oh. Okay. BYE

{ EDIT: I am a BAD MAN because Von Maestro totally started this thread YESTERDAY and I totally missed it. So hopefully this fixes it. YAY }

Yeah--I love how outraged Mike is. I mean, if you don't want to be mocked don't have drama--it's simple, really. And I saw the clip--it could have been MUCH worse.

Its not just Michael Jackson thats upset BET has pulled the video off the air and Steve Harvey has taken away Eminem's "Ghetto Pass". I think the song sucks but its patterned off of all of his previous first singles, goofy song with goofy video insulting some celebrities in the process. If you watch the video I think you will see that Eminem spoofs on himself as much as he does Jacko. Oh well the outcome of this is that Eminem will sell a billion records controversy always helps. How anyone can stand behind Michael Jackson is another issue all together, I mean the guy did say he thinks its fine to share his bed with children didn't he?

Talking about the song itself, it is VERY weak for an Eminem single. What is especially annoying is that stupid laugh; it kills the song dead. I'm a fan of his, but Eminem still needs to get off the referencing of his older songs and just work on new material.

The video is very funny though, and I'm glad he used those same girls who danced in Missy Elliot's videos. They got some moves for young'uns.

RORY: So, is this party Grandma's having going to be a big deal?
LORELAI: Not really. The government will close that day. Flags will fly at half-mast. Barbra Streisand will give her final concert...again.
RORY: Uh-huh.
LORELAI: Now, the Pope has previous plans, but he's trying to get out of them. However, Elvis and Jim Morrison are coming and they're bringing chips.

I'm not a big fan of Eminem. I mean his stuff wouldnt be so bad if every damn station didn't play it (I love how White Rappers meat enough criteria to get played on Rock Stations).

But this video is hillarious. The Jackson stuff is no worse then what South Park did to him last season.

But Jackson lives in a very delusional world where he pays people to keep it a certain way and in his world he probably really thinks there is nothing wrong with what he does.

The only thing I hate is you know this damn video will win the VMA next year.

I hate how MJ is trying to turn this into another case of blacks being exploited by whites, especially with Johnson's BET (which is white owned,)when Micheal Jackson himself hasn't been black since 1987. If anything Eminem should be sued by the fans for remaking the same damn single for the 3rd straight album.

Most diehard Eminem fans don't buy his albums for the singles. The singles are there for TRL. Eminem himself has said numerous times that he knows when he has a single because he can't stand the song after the third time he's heard it. This one fits into that mold perfectly. He does it as a joke. Everyone knows it's the same song, but for some reason it finds its way to the top of TRL. He understands what sells in the world of music and caters to that. His "true" fans will buy his album anyway because of it's content. Newcomers will buy it because they like the single. And because he constantly gets new fans, he makes more money. Smart business plan as long as his albums stay strong in their content besides the single.

Edit: Steve Harvey should have lost his "ghetto pass" when his show began airing. What a crock of shit that man is. Eminem's cool when he makes fun of cripples, high school shootings, Elvis and Sonny Bono but as soon as he makes fun of *gasp* Michael Jackson he's gone too far? Please.

What I find ironic is that Eminem is the same guy that whined when Weird Al tried to make a parody video, but it's OK to go and parody Jacko.

Jackson's not high on my list of people that I would consider as someone to look up to right now, but I think there's a valid point regarding parody. Is it going to stop Eminem from airing it? No -- but again he's showing that he can dish it out and not take it.

MTV Vows To Continue Airing Eminem Video

Michael Jackson is furious after learning bosses at MTV plan to continue airing Eminem's controversial video for his single "Just Lose It." The 46-year-old Bad singer urged all TV networks to ban the clip, which features Eminem dressed as Jackson, jumping around on a bed with young children. His also nose then falls off and his hair bursts into flames - which spoofs the Thriller star's accident on the set of a Pepsi commercial in 1984. And while Black Entertainment Television (BET) has banned the video, MTV has decided to allow its broadcast, angering Jackson. His spokesperson Raymone Bain tells website Eurweb, "Eminem released a statement, he and Interscope, saying they stand by the video and they're disappointed that Bet pulled it. And MTV came out saying they were going to continue to air it on MTV, MTV2 and MTV Europe." Jackson adds, "I think it's the wrong thing to do. It should be pulled, it shouldn't be played. It's incorrect." Bain continues, "VH1 sent out a release this evening saying they were meeting on whether or not they're going to air it. So for them to release something like that must mean they're more than likely to pull it. I can't see them releasing a statement saying they're in the process of meeting on it."

I am shocked that VH1 is going to have a "meeting" about it. I figure since they were owened by MTV, and MTV is going to continue to air it, that they would also continue to.

True, but they have different playlists and don't automaticallty show the same videos. So maybe that's why there will be discussion?

I finally saw the video. While I am not a diehard Em fan, I like some of his stuff. That video had me ROLLING. I love it.
Also, Kanye West's Workout Tape was pretty funny too, even though I don't really find him as great as everyone else seems too.
I'm not a big Nelly fan, but the "Tilt ya head back" vid with X-Tina is way cool. I like Tina's parts in the song, and guess I can tolerate Nelly, although overall I'm not a big fan of all these collaboration songs that have gotten so popular.

If you "ironically" make crappy songs and "ironically" make money off of them, then it's not ironic anymore, it's selling out.

The video is stupid, the song is stupid, and it's all just many more reasons why Eminem is the most overrated musician since Kurt Cobain.

You say "sell-out", I say "GENIUS". Despite the usually corny first single he puts out with each new album, the rest of the album is where the "real" songs are, where he's actually saying something. It's a pretty neat formula he's got there where he can write songs about what he wants to talk about & be artistic & fresh/creative, but still sell to the TRL teeny-boppers who prolly wont get the songs that HE likes. OutKast kinda does that too. They have those super catchy songs with those super-duper catchy hooks that everybody and their mama knows by heart, but those hooks usually have very little (if anything) to do with what the actual song is talking about. So they've got something to bring in the kids who dont listen to the words (Would you believe me if I told you that I had a 14 year old girl at my church last year tell me it was "weird" that I pay attention to the lyrics of songs??), *AND* they've got something for the rest of us too. GENIUS.

Knowing Eminem*, he'll probably have another song on the album where he comes out and says "My first single on this album is the exact same song as the first single on my last album, and 4 million of you dumb asses still bought it!"

*No, I dont *know* Eminem.

This is the standard Eminem formula. He always drops a comedy single before releasing the serious stuff. Many point to Jimmy Ivine and Dr. Dre for having the final say on what gets released.

Nothing new at all. Look at all of his and D12s singles compared with the albums.

The Slim Shady LP

1st single - My Name Is
2nd single - Guilty Conscience

The Marshall Mathers LP

1st single - The Real Slim Shady
2nd single - The Way I Am

D12 - Devil's Night

1st single - Purple Hills (Pills)
2nd single - Fight Music

The Eminem Show

1st single - Without Me
2nd single - Cleaning Out My Closet

D12 - D12 World

1st single - My Band
2nd single - How Come

There you have it, ALL Eminem and D12 albums had a comedy single for the TRL - MTV crowd strictly for sales while loading up albums with the more tolerable material.

Ugh. Not another "selling out"
argument, please, I'm beggin' ya.
What is so wrong with making a ton of
money? Music is a product, not unlike
the patato chips you find on the
shelves of your local supermarket. When
the potato chip company belts out an
annoying or shallow commercial that
nonetheless does its duty and sticks in
your head, making the product leap forth in
your mind, no one says Humpy Dumpty sold
out. And it doesn't mean the chips aren't
delicious, either.

note: Tried something new with my formattin', anyone like?

No. I can't stand it when BostonIdol does it either. It's too hard to read. In this case, it looked like you were trying to battle-rap.

What is even more interesting (and also ironic) is that Eminem, at least with his "TRL singles" has now become the new version of Weird Al.

I don't think anyone is rating Cobain as a great musician, I doubt that he would have. That was never the point of their music. People tend to get rapped up in how great or ungreat a musician's skills are when sometimes it's just about making really good music that is catchy or just sticks with you for one reason or another. There are plenty of *GREAT* musicians out there that can't put together a good song.
