Not to get anyone's hopes up, but.....

With Pedro and a hopefully healthy Schilling the next two games, it's not inconceivable that this series won't go to seven games.

I think coming back from being down 0-3 might just trump 86 years of bragging rights.

Catch The Thrill on "Pick of the Week": taped Tuesdays at Planet Magic in Denmark, WI; on the air Sundays @ 1 am on WB-14!

Pedro in Fenway is a different guy than Pedro in the Bronx, so tonight just might go the Sox's way.

And I didn't think Schilling would be able to go this whole ALCS, but the Boston Globe says otherwise!

Go Sox!

Star wipe, and...we're out.

Anybody else get the feeling the Red Sox will storm back to tie the series, then lose 14-0 in game 7?

Make that ever. Considering there was no ALCS before 1969, I think that's a safe bet :)

Heh... thanks. I think I was parroting that from the guys at Fox or something. A quick check at baseball-reference.com shows that the Sox were the Wild Card winners in '98-'99, went to the Series '15'-'16, won the '03 series and then won the AL in '04. So, back-to-back postseason appearances are pretty rare in these parts.

Guys, it was a fluke last night. The Yankees are in Pedro's head and won't leave. Even if they do win tonight, they still have to go back and try to win game 6 and 7 in the Bronx withouth Pedro and Schilling. Trust me, you don't want Schilling back, it will be another disaster for you.

Depends on who they pitch in game 7. Which brings me to my next question: who will the Sox pitch in game 7? Arroyo got lit up. Wakefield has been coming in from the pen. Pedro starts tonight, Schilling tomorrow. Do they really want to risk going with Lowe in the Bronx? The fact that they don't have an off day really hurts them.

If by some miracle Schilling can go more than 7 innings, they would be in good shape, bullpen-wise, for a possible game 7. But if Schilling goes down early again and the pen has to come to the rescue, whoever the game 7 starter is going to be will be left out to dry.

I'm getting ahead of myself here, but at least the series is interesting again.

Edited: The Yankees won't be in Pedro's head as long as he brings his dwarf with him. And they will have the services of Schilling in the Bronx for game 6, unless I forgot how to count. Let's see... Tonight's game 5 and Pedro's pitching. Tomorrow's game 6 and Schilling's pitching. 6 comes after 5 so yup, the Sox will have Schilling's services in the Bronx.

Historically, Pedro pitches far better against the Yankees at the Stadium than at Fenway. The big question is whether the anal retentive Mussina gets thrown off by pitching on an extra days rest. With both teams bullpens shot, this could be a case where both pitchers could be left out to die. Should a Game 6 occur, the forecast is rain tapering to drizzle on Tuesday night, with both managers probably praying for a postponement to get their pens back into shape.
Right now, winning the series should not be the focus. The only focus now is that they don't clinch at Fenway. Accomplish that, and it's a 2 game season.

Sentences like this are why I love baseball.

“Back in 2000 a Republican friend warned me that if I voted for Al Gore and he won, the stock market would tank, we'd lose millions of jobs, and our military would be totally overstretched. You know what? I did vote for Gore, he did win, and I'll be damned if all those things didn't come true!"

Of course this will be the way it goes down. The Sox must lose in the most bitter way possible. Coming back from an insurmountable 3-0 series deficit only to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory in Game 7 in the Bronx. It is how it must be written.

I supposed he somewhat disproved that in game one of this series, which was a full week after he pitched game one against Minnesota...and before that, he had pitched six days prior, on the 29th, in the first game of the regular season doubleheader against Minnesota.

Wow. Tim Wakefield is GOD.

Schilling vs. Lieber for Game 6. But what about the bullpens?

Red Sox: Foulke for 1
Arroyo
Leskanic
Mendoza
Lowe?
Myers?

I can't imagine Embree or Timlin would be available, but Wakefield should be able to give us three if we need it. ;-)

Yankees: Rivera for 1
Vasquez
Brown
Heredia
Hernandez?
Quantrill?
Sturtze?

Because I haven't said it recently: God Bless the remote control. Two great games going on simultaneously. If you don't love baseball after today, there is no hope for you.
I guess signing Ortiz to that extension in May was a pretty good idea.
With both teams bullpens being shot, would anyone be surprised if Francona and Torre joined together for a rain dance?
If he is healthy enough to take the ball in Game 6, Schilling better realize that means he's healthy enough to get into the 8th. No excuses.
Loved the Who's Your Dealer chant at Mr. Integrity Sheffield.
If this series goes 7 and with the state of the bullpens, is it safe to presume Mussina and Martinez will be in the closers role?
People can complain about the Red Sox and Yankees getting attention etc., but at least they generally give you excitement.
And, considering he probably is the most decent guy to play for the Red Sox in years, at least Wakefield didn't get saddled with ending the season 2 straight years.
Funny what a guy with speed can do on the bases. Is this something new in baseball, as I'm not familiar with runners being fast.

Hit, yeah; bunt, no. Someone needs to tell Tito to stop asking these guys to bunt, because they're clearly not used to it. Especially my man Bellhorn.
