The NBA is considering a plan to abolish the three-point shot until the end of games to increase shooting percentages and make the sport more aesthetically pleasing.
The NBA may ban three-pointers until there's five minutes left in the game in its development league this season, Stu Jackson, NBA senior vice president of basketball operations, said in a telephone interview.
I'm having a hard time imagining this as an improvement ...

Between this and the idea about calling more fouls, was this a contest in the league office as to who could come up with the most retarded rule change?
You know what else they should do? Put trampolines in the floors! It will be great-a ratings BONANZA! Nobody wants to see bounce passes and pick-and-rolls! They want SCORING! They want DUNKS! It can't miss! Oh, wait...

Well, its not like people missing the three pointers are making the game UGLY, what people dont like is all the crappy grabbing, hacking, jump step plus two steps bullshit that they allow these days. (at least thats what I hate)

It's not necessarily that, but players will not take threes from that far out unless they get the three. Otherwise, why not take a higher percentage shot? The problem comes in that teams will not have to defend the perimeter nearly as much because the lower-percentage long-ball will be worthe the same as a the higher percentage shot.
Basically, this will only encourage more clogging of the lane and more hack-a-Shaq.

Not neccesarily true. Myself, I like the 3-point rule and want it to stay, but I don't think if it's taken away you will have poorer shooting. There have been plenty of great outside shooters in the NBA before the 3 point rule. If anything, the 3-point rule has taken away from the mid-range game. These days guys want to either dunk or bomb away from 25 feet.
They should bring the 3-point line in to encourage more shooting... Plus they should allow zone defense to force the offense to have more imagination & allow the shooters to shine. Instead of just the 1 on 1 street ball mentality they have now that makes the NBA unwatchable for me.
Simply put, make it more like International ball, it's a better game... If you don't like the word international then just say make it more like Collage ball.

Um, they already moved the 3-point line in and even Alonzo Mourning was trying the occassional three-pointer with the line moved in, so they moved it back so only the "good" shooters would tried to shoot them. And they DO allow zone defenses and have for a couple of years now. International players are by and large not the athletes that NBA players are, so OF COURSE they have to shoot and pass better.
They should REALLY make the court a little bigger just to make more space for everyone. The women's game has a lot more flow to it, and I think that's because they just have more room to move around on the court.

Having the 3 pointer with a time limit is stupidity, as why should a shot made at 5:01 left count for less than a shot a second later? However, they should put the line back to 23'9" as it was the first decade of the 3 point shot. By doing that, only guys who actually have range will take the shot, rather than any guy not named Shaq who floats out of the paint.

Gary Payton is getting old and his numbers are declining fast. He will not make a very huge impact. If you watched him last year when he was with the Celtics he was numbers even worse than some rookie beach players.
