So this board has quite a few Smallville fans around here. Me included. So who saw it?

- Lois~! I say I like her so far. Brings a much needed female presence to the show and you can't help but admire her little quest for the truth. Sets up quite nicely her future interactions with Clark, too.

- Nice twist by having Kal-El as Clark's evil alter ego. But what the hell does black kryptonite do?

- Kudos to the Bird/Plane nod with the pilot's quip.

- Flight~! Who else did the Matrix comparison with the whole "crouch and leap" motion when Clark flew away? I myself imagined he'd develop the freeze breath. What powers are left now?

Here's to a kickass season. Discuss.

Look who I met NOW, suckas.

I thought the episode was good, but it seemed like they tried to cram two episodes' worth of material into one hour. A lot of things happened with little explanation; however, that might be deliberate as they unwind the season.

"Lois Lane" is very cute.

I'm not sure what to make of The Mountain, the show that followed Smallville. It was certainly hyped up enough, and the lead character seems interesting. I don't see it lasting, however.

Let's see...

"A" PLOT: Clark's Kryptonian heritage. Twas actually mentioned and dealt with, but they didn't...y'know, explain what black kryponite does. Odds are we'll get a wordy explanation within a few episodes. The crystals will need to be explained more, but it seems as if it's leading somewhere. The dualistic nature of Clark's daily life is shown pretty well.

"B" PLOT: Whatever happened to Chloe Sullivan? Dragged Lois Lane into the show, and did it well. Odds are we'll get a resolution fairly soon.

"C" PLOT: Whatever happened to Lana Lang? I liked the introduction of Jason Teague. He seems cool. And I like the idea of Lana being with somebody who isn't from Smallville. It makes her seem more real. The wacky shenanigans with the tattoo seem cool, but need explaining within a few episodes.

Upcoming Smallville teases (from Kryptonsite):

Spoiler Below: Highlight text to read

-Sept 29: "Gone"; Lois & Clark try to figure out what happened to Chloe. Lois' dad (Chloe's uncle) debuts. Lana & Jason come to Smallville.
-Oct 6: "Facade"; Some chick gets beauty-sucking powers after getting Kryptonite-laced plastic surgery, and targets Lana (who's hiding her new relationship from Clark).
-Oct 13: "Devoted"; Guy goes psycho to protect his girlfriend.
-Oct 20: "Run"; The Flash! Not Wally West, but Bart Allen.
-Oct 27: "Transference"; Clark & imprisoned Lionel switch bodies thanks to an artifact.
-TBA: "Jinx"; Smallville's version of Mr. Mxyzptlk debuts.
-TBA: "Spell"; Chloe, Lana & Lois get possessed by the ghosts of witches.
Also, Perry White & Pete Ross will do guest spots. They're trying to get clearance to do Jimmy Olsen, and if Christopher Reeve's schedule clears up he'll return, too.

The problem I had is that Lana kind of came across as kind of selfish. Chloe is dead. Jonathon Kent is in a coma. Clark is missing. Lana is in Paris getting laid. It kind of makes her seem self centered to me.

Question: HOW would she know any of that? She left during the last episode last season and wouldn't be aware of anything unless somebody told her about it.

A)Well Jesus, I'd certainly hope somehow would tell ME if one of my closest friends went missing. Though Clark's yearly disappearances have maybe desensitized everyone.

Milkman: Where's Clark?
Martha: Oh it's June.
Milkman: Ah... vanished again eh?
Martha: It's these gosh darn hiatuses. Can't have a normal summer vacation off-camera apparently.

B)Lois is... not Lana. They kinda screwed the pooch casting Kreuk. How do you top a Norwegian Asian Goddess?

No really that wasn't rhetorical, how do you?

C)Other than that I was a little disappointed. Hopefully things will pick up in a few weeks.

D)Black Kyrptonite? BLACK? Explanation please?

Kryptonite is a piece of the exploded Krypton, having different colors that affect Superman in different ways:

GREEN: Physical sickness & weakness.
RED: Emotional & behavioral changes.
GOLD: *WOULD* theoretically take Superman's powers away.
BLUE: Toxic to Bizarros.
WHITE: Toxic to plants.

There is no black kryptonite in the comics.

Well I know that Lana is in Paris but I am willing to go out on a limb and say that they have telephones in France.
If Lana called ANYONE in Smallville the fact that Chloe was blown up would be told to her automatically. Now I coulc maybe buy her not finding out about Clark and Jonathon but for her not to know that her best friend and roommate got killed in a mob hit seems unlikely.
Would you check in with your friends and family at elast once in a 3 month period? Or expect to hear from them?

Sorry Freeway, but I'm mighty dorky enough to know ALL the kryptonite colours. That was a useless cry to the writers to fill that hole in the plot.

So which Kryptonite is the one that makes Clark's hair and nails grow really fast? Now that would be an exciting episode.

Red. To say emotional and behavoral changes doesn't quite cover the entire gamut for Red K. It has a different unusual effect on Superman each time. One time it could be beard/nails/hair and the next it could be Superman can only speak in Kryptonian and no other language and the next after THAT it could work like a 2-week dose of Cialis.

Now that would be an interesting Smallville. Too bad Chloe is dead for that one.

Let's see...

~~~SPOILERS AHOY!~~~
EPISODE 2: "GONE"
"A" PLOT: Whatever Happened To Chloe Sullivan? They managed to combine the "Clark hates Lex" and "Clark & Lois miss Chloe" elements of the show very well. The resolution was well-done and dovetailed into the resolution of the "B'" plot.
"B" PLOT: The Legal Entanglements of Lionel Luthor. Since John Glover's a full-time supporting player he'll be part of the show...but the Lex/Lionel feud will continue, and it better. Still, the ending of the show was well-done. But what the hell was up with that random Kryptonite baddie? Either explain every single one of them seperately or tell us how they all got powers at once (ala Rising Stars).
"C" PLOT: Whatever Happened To Lana Lang? OMG, they acknowledge every previous event! I love the sweet irony of Lois Lane grilling Clark about Lana and visa versa. Hilarity. Plus, Jason turning up will provide some hilarious consequences. This will probably end up like old issues of Spider-Man with Clark dating somebody else out of spite. Ah spite...
Solid episode.
When I was growing up in Chicago in the early 80s, WGN used to show Prisoner Cell Block H each night after the late news. This was a fantastically entertaining Australian soap opera set in a women's prison (the Wentworth Detention Centre).
