Meet the new boss, Brewtown...

Mark Attanasio, potential new Brewers owner

Some California lawyer just bought my Brewers (Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel) for over $180 million!? (Pending approval from the other 30 ball clubs, anyway.)

What is this, some insipid Guru Zim plot to insure Padres dominance in the NL? :-)

But at least he won't be pulling an Irsay anytime soon...he also gets a piece of Miller Park. Observe:

Assuming Attanasio's bid is formally approved, most Brewers' fans will want to hear about the California resident's long-term commitment to baseball in Milwaukee.

The current lease agreement between the Brewers and the Miller Park stadium district runs through 2030 and contains a number of safeguards to prevent an owner from moving the team out of Milwaukee.

According to the non-relocation agreement, the Brewers cannot sign a contract or deal to move the franchise "without the prior written consent of the state and the stadium district."

In addition, the franchise has to provide written notice to the state and district of its intent to move, and of any negotiations that involve the possible transfer of the franchise.

The agreement also gives the district the right to go to court to stop the action.

Natch, he grew up near the Death Star...er, Yankee Stadium. Hoo boy...well, at least he can't be any worse than the Seligs.

(EDIT: Good spelling and abbreviation consistency are.)

I'm just happy that the commissioner no longer owns a chunk of a team anymore...

I hate it when I have to agree with you. But it is a good thing the commish doesn't own a part of any team, and one can hope the new owner is better.

Edit: Fixed a screw up.

Officially, Bud Selig's portion of the Brewers was held by a "trust," and his daughter, Wendy Selig-Prieb, handled the team's operations.

Of course, we all saw how well that worked out. But if Bud had some evil plot to use his power as Commish 4 Life to enhance the Brewers at the rest of the league's expense...well, it sucked. Other than trying to contract the Twinkies, anyway. :-)
