The thread title is intentional hyperbole, but after all the bitching in this thread, I'm surprised no one's taken note.

Speaking at George Washinton University today, Teddy said:

Laughably, Ted also said (or the USA Today/AP summarized):

Yeah, North Korea has nothing to do with your party giving them the means to make the bomb, Ted. Sure.

I watched the speech on C-SPAN, and Ted started out pretty sane and reasonable, I thought. As soon as I heard the mushroom cloud thing, I thought "oh boy, somebody is going to have a field day with this".

This whole "elect (or re-elect) Bush/Kerry and you'll all die a horrible death" thing is starting to bug me. 9/11 took years to plan, and it was nobody's (or, more precisely, everybody's) fault. I have no problem with somebody saying that Kerry or Bush will be tougher/weaker on the war on terror (diplomacy vs. force, allies vs. going alone, etc..), but fear-mongering ("mushroom cloud" in the case of Ted or "devastating attack" in the words of Dick) does nobody any good. And it disturbes me that sane-looking people (well, Teddy's a bit eccentric) are predicting the End, not just extreme righties and lefties here. But this country is so nauseatingly divided on subjects like these, it's not going to change, and I'm just estatic for the debates to take place so we can be flooded with more crap like this on a daily basis.

I guess I'll join the conspiracy, the end is nigh segment of the audience. I do agree the idea of nuclear war or at least some kinda accident is no more likely since Iran is going full force with it. Their reasoning, if they really needed one, is that since the U.S. knocked off one of the axis of evil and next door, so they are going to be attacked. I can't say I disagree with the logic, but I'm sure Iran would have built the bomb no matter what.

I feel that Bush's cowboy diplomacy has run the country into a wall. I do fear for the country if Bush gets re-elected, because the more radical measures will be taken like a draft, gay marriage, christian values taking over everything and an even worse economy. I also don't think its that hard to imagine since that is the base of the Republican Party and he will give back to them. I wouldn't say the end days are here, but I don't think better days will be around the corner.

They didn't need a reason other than wanting a weapon that could kill a lot of "enemies" if they wanted to. Just like Pakistan and India, those two "sane" nations.

1. The draft will not be coming back anytime soon, no matter what the wackier leftists might try to scare you with.

2. Gay marriage, and I can't tell whether you support it or not, won't have anything to do with Armageddon.

3. Basic Christian values aren't that bad, but the practicing of them sometimes leaves a lot to be desired. Even Atheists might live by the same tenets as Christians, without the belief or worship.

4. Even worse economy than what? Depends on the numbers you look at.

Don't be so defeatist. Remember in every election the challenging party has to paint a doom and gloom picture, and the party in power has to try to scare you with possible scanarios of incompetence and/or secret agendas(sp) on the other side.

Mostly because it wouldn't have made any sense at all.

Our purpose was to take out Iraq's WMD and make its usage less likely. If there ever was any WMD to find, it's gone now. Into whose hands? We don't know. So the danger of somebody using WMD against American assets has indeed risen.

It would be nice for someone to actually read my posts, before cutting and pasting them to hell. I did state that I thought Iran really didn't need an excuse. I never said gay marriage would lead to the apocylpse, I just stated that these are things that do worry me if Bush gets elected. I know cutting and pasting crap is the theme for the Republicans on the board, so I shouldn't be shocked.

Its hard to be optimist when we are losing soliders in Iraqi, another rouge nation is going to be a nuclear power and our economy is in the toliet. I don't see the bright side of Bush winning the election. It will be more of the same hiding behing the flag and war and never discussing issues like health care, an exit stragety, why our intelligence communities are a joke and getting people jobs. They make vague comments about having a plan for America, so far Plans A,B and C haven't worked and I don't see plans D-Z working either.

I wish I could say the same for Kerry, but the campaign is about war and hopelessness if it wasn't then there would be no negative ads.

You appear to have confused "quoting" with "cutting and pasting." (The above is an example of "quoting.")

Perhaps you shouldn't post your opinion if you don't welcome response.

Alternatively, if you think you're being misrepresented by people's quotations of your own words, perhaps you need to better articulate your position.

This kind of whining is really unbecoming and it seems that you're falling into your old patterns. Fair warning: I may have to start editing your posts if it continues.

I do hope you won't respond with another "I'm leaving" post as you never mean it. ;-)

Did you just insinuate that W. would allow gay marriage or am I misreading this completely? How on earth would that jive with "Christian values"?

PS - However, if this makes you vote for Kerry, then by all means... ;-)

I really don't think that the measures taken to ensure the safety of our nation is 'cowboy diplomacy.' And what is wrong with Christian values? Even if you're not a Christian, there are certain prinicples that most people live by. What, besides gay marriage, constitutes
Christian values taking over the country.'

The Christian values I am refering to are the ban on gay marriage, school pray, funding for religious activities or programs via the government. Having been a Christian awhile, I do think there is some good and bad about it, however, I don't see the good values being pursued by this administration. They seem more intent on the bad part of Christianity ie gays are evil and shouldn't have the right to love one another, even though that is what Jesus said to do as the last commandment. I'm sorry, but religious should have no place in public policy. I repeat again not everyone is Christian and if they are they could one of ten split branches of it that have very different views on very different things. I think the basic values of thou shall not kill should be the only thing our government should accept. Plus, penalities against murder existed before Moses, so I don't even know if that counts.

I also don't feel like misleading the country into going to war, announcing the war is over after over a 1000 of our troops died later and then having no real exit strategy after the war is over is what I call "ensuring the safety of the country." I could be wrong.
