I am astonished this guy goes for 20 freaking years with a catch in every game he played in, and then it ends with no reason. We will never see a streak like this again.

Is this comparable to Cal Ripken's streak?

No. Rice missed games during the streak, most notably after Warren Sapp screwed up Rice's knee on that reverse a few years back. And any starting WR should catch at least one pass in every game. This would be like honoring the most consecutive games a running back gained at least one yard...you'd expect them to get at least ONE yard, just as Rice should be expected to make at least ONE catch.

It's impressive for its longevity, but that's all. The only game-to-game streak record that counts in the NFL is Unitas' 47 straight games with a TD pass, because I don't think anyone's gotten even remotely close to it.

EDIT: Marino's got the second-longest streak at 30. Pete Rose got closer to Joe D than anyone's gotten to Unitas.

Also, I think MJ's "consecutive games with double-digit scoring"-streak is about as lame as Rice's.

I don't know about that Grimis. Brett Favre's streak of 200+ games started at QB is amazing, especially when you consider the fact that Ron Jaworski is the closest to him with 116!!

Why doesn't anyone challenge MJ's or Rice's records than? There impressive not for the simple feat they did each game, but how many games they did it. Their records are so far ahead of anyone else its ridiculous. If they were, say, three games ahead of the next people on their respective lists, it would be different.

I will second that. In this day and age where QBs are getting killed out there (Vick and Pennington last year), The fact that a QB can start 32 games in a row is amazing in itself.

Of course some records/streaks are more impressive than others. Jerry Rice is without question the best WR ever to play the game.

I wouldn't compare his streak to say, Jesse Orosco's MLB record 1,252 games in which he appeared and pitched, even though he's also miles ahead of whoever is next. 'Cuz for the majority of Orosco's career, he was a low/midcarder, but Rice has always been a superstar.

I agree that Favre's streak at QB starts is more difficult, and deservingly impressive. But there hasn't been a lot of attention about Jerry Rice's streak ending, and I think there should have been.

I'd like to add that the baseball streak of homers in 8 consecutive games is pretty impressive, because it has held up even in the longball era. And the Prairie View A&M football team's losing streak in the early 90's is worth noting, if only because just about any team would get lucky in that time period.

Jeesh Gannon you couldn't throw a 3 yard pass to the flat in a 1st down during the game just to keep the streak alive. The streaking ending is much more on Gannon not looking for Rice than Rice not doing his thing... Must have been a bitter/sweet win for Rice. Considering it's only Week 2 I'll guess it's a bit more bitter.

Its not so much this as it is Rice's number being called. He was shuttled in and out of the entire game, not getting near as many snaps as he normally would. I believe in week one he was on the sideline during the Raiders comeback attempt. A Quarterback has his progressions he needs to run through on every play, and its a good chance Rice was the second, third, or fourth option on most of the pass plays called. Lord knows they weren't running the ball with much effectiveness.

Rice is the greatest receiver ever, but all streaks must come to an end ... Did it appear that he was pouting a bit about it after the game?

I found the RENEGADES name to be kinda of place in Ottawa, personally. Why don't they put a team in the Maritimes?
