I'll probably get bombed for starting a NASCAR thread on this board, but here it goes...

We have our final ten racers and are heading into our final ten races and only 45 points seperates 1st-10th.

You would have to think that Jeff Gordon is the overall favorite to win this thing being that he's been there a lot, and won a lot as well. I'd probably give fairly good odds to Tony Stewart as well as the leader most the year Jimmy Johnson.

Mark Martin brings an interesting dynamic to the table as he has the most respect amongst his peers, and I'd have to imagine a lot of people will still race him, but not as hard as say a Stewart who has bad reputation with a lot of other guys.

Then there are your other eight. Golden Boy Earnhart is just to streaky I don't even see him finishing top 5. Kurt Busch and Ryan Newman should scare a lot of people as they could get red hot at anytime. Mr. Consistancy Matt Kenseth stands a real good shot at doing what he did last year and put up nothing but top 5's while stealing the cup. I don't think Sadler is quite ready to threaten the Gordons and Stewarts yet and Mayfield really showed a lot by just getting in the top ten.

It will be interesting to see how this all plays out. NASCAR has added a lot of intrest with the new format and that's what they set out to do with football starting up. Now we just have to see if it makes for good racing.

Something I've been wondering, and have never really figured out (mostly because I rarely watch NASCAR): Is it just these ten guys on the track, or will there be 32 others playing for pride and money, if not the possibility of a Cup championship?

They'll have the normal field, just only the 10 will be elgigible to win it all.

But everyone else can still win a race, and whoever ends up finishing 11th place gets a million dollar bonus.

I am thinking my Money's on Mark Martin for this tex car sprint. He's had a good 6-8 weeks, is hungry, near the end and the Hat man is looking for another win. You got Kenseth, Busch and Martin as a team, and Gordon and Johnson as one. That should play out too.

Martin's my choice

Also it's a good chance for teams like Burton and AOL,who have looked good since coming together, to get the kinks worked out for next year. Then there is rookie Kasey Kahne who is still looking for his first victory. Old timers like Dale Jarrett have to prove they still can race. There are also a lot of up and comers like Greg Biffle who want to prove themselves to the bigger teams thinking about a driver change. Add that in with the 1 million dollar bonus for 11th place, the purses for winning each individual race and drivers with a lot of pride that want to play spoiler and there is still plenty for everyone out there. I don't think it is the perfect system yet (I would have like to seen at least 10 point gaps), but it is a step in the right direction.
