So uhm... What are you planning for Halloween? Or in our house, Hallow-Christmas... which usually gets taken down sometime before Easter. Not having a yard really crimps my decorating ability. Putting tombstones on your balcony just isn't the same.

Right now we have 3 boxes of Fall/Halloween/Thanksgiving decorations in the living room which have yet to be unpacked. I'm living back at home now so I don't have to hang up my magnets and call it decorating anymore. Every year we try to add at least one new thing. This year, I made one of those Harvest Basket things they show at AC Moore's (craft store) and Mom went psychoballistic with fiber-optic things. We had some scarecrow things that went in the yard but I don't think they're going up this year because the puppy will attack and destroy them within 1.5 seconds.

I had friends who hung ghosts and bats from their balcony last year. They couldn't really sit out there with all of that, but it was cool walking past and seeing the ghosts fluttering in the breeze.

And Halloween/Christmas decorations don't *need* to come down before Easter. If you leave them up, it could be interpreted as a celebration of the cycle of life in a Judeo-Christian point of view. :)

Wow! I'm so glad this is back - I just noticed it.
I was coming home from work yesterday, and saw people putting stuff up - which kinda reminded me that yeah, Halloween was actually coming, and I better start the fall cleaning, huh? "Can't decorate over dirt!"
This year, it looks like around here the big thing is to get a round styrofoam form, and throw some orange or white thin material over it, gather it at the neck, draw a face on it, and have the rest spread out, maybe by using a stiffener on the fabric or something. Don't know if it's a new Martha Stewart type of thing or what, but I'm seeing an awful lot of those going up on sticks on people's lawns.
In my neighborhood, however, I give 'em about a week before they're broken by the kids from the public school running around during the day after they escape out the back door. The public schools here in Philly are in that bad a shape.
I have a son myself. He's 13, and the big thing this year is, of all things - eyeliner for boys - a reflection of the Good Charlotte - Greenday "fake punk" stuff they advocate. All of my son's friends are into it - thankfully, he isn't - so he told them he'd only wear it on Halloween, when he's told them he's gonna be the guy from "A Clockwork Orange".
As far as I know, this kid has never seen this movie...where have they heard about it?
You guessed it - the Internet. Also from this tv show they watch in school - "Channel 1".
Some strange stuff going on in school nowadays...

I bought a little "iron tree" at Target. It is black and made of wire and looks like a twisted dead tree. I also got some bat ornaments to go on it. A lot of or decorations are going to have to do duty in Aaron's office first (six foot web, skeleton, etc) where we're hoping to do a spooky pirate theme.

I carve excellent pumpkins -- if I do say so myself. But that's really just a last-minute thing. (The javalinas find pumpkins to be a most tasty treat -- cuts down on the pumpkins' effective outdoor lifespan.) Other than that, we're all desert around here, & there really isn't a lot of decoration that fits in very well.

What, no turning cacti into ghosts and skeletons? No giant boxes of scorpions collected by neighborhood children?

Hey ladies. I have to tell you, I haven't even seen Smackdown last night, because I found out at the last minute it was preempted (Saturday at 8PM, again). I did read the recaps though, and as good as it sounds, there's something annoying about it.
