Alledgedly, they chanted "What?" at every pause in Lillian's anthem last night, which is beyond comprehension for me. I mean come on.

Then again it might not be true, anyone here happen to be there?

As for it getting old, damn right it is. My dad, who almost never watches wrestling, saw the Stone Cold promo last night and basically said "What" was old about half way through that promo alone, let alone, what is it now, 5 months? Ever since the crowd started saying it "What" has sucked. It won't stop until Austin stops saying it either.

And I think you're fat. So how do you like me now?

I'd get sick of it, but every time I hear it I just find myself marveling at Austin's ability to get seemingly anything over. Think about it, who else could get the word "What?" so damn embedded in people's heads that they do it often enough for you to get sick of it. I did dig it more though as a part of psychotic heel Austin then as a part of suck-up face Austin.

There, I feel better now.

It's sad, but I'm really not so sad, although I wish the crowd would get a little smarter and throw in a when and a how here and there.

Heck, I was at an indy show and the mic wouldn't stay on, per se, so we're sitting there with Disco Inferno in the ring, and he's TRYING almost desperately to get his promo out, but instead he gets... "What?"

...

Although, at the show, the ring announcer did get smarter chants. For example, when he was announcing that the match was for one fall, the crowd chanted "How many?"... and when he said where the wrestler was from, the crowd chanted "Where?"

Sure, they were one time question-like chants, rather than over and over, but people were doing it, dammit.

I agree whole heartedly with ya Dirk.

Austin's been way to much of a suck up babyface for my tastes lately. It's doubly upsetting since he had just been playing one of the greatest heels in recent memory!

What?

I said it's doubly upsetting.....blah, nevermind.

What?

I said nevermind.

What?

Damn it, I used to think it was funny but not anymore.

What?

Right.

What?

And what the hell is up with Austin and the Rock being buddy buddy?

What?

My sentiments exactly.

What?

I was trying to be funny here but I may have failed miserably.

What?

See how irritating it is?

What?

And do you know what the worst part is?

What?

This is going to go on FOREVER.

What?

If you thought you were sick of crotch chops....

What?

You ain't seen nothing yet.

What?

God help us all.

What?

Jebus CREEBUS, every time I hear that word anymore I want to throw something through my television. It _DID_ really seem to be working when Austin had his whole psychotic heel vibe going, but at this point I think Austin could shoot the Pope and then shit in his mouth and still be a face and get the crowd to pop for it.

I don't think it's possible to win either way with Austin anymore, unless you're just a casual fan who paid to see ol' Redneck 3:16.

I rarely get to watch wrestling anymore but the best part of "what" for me is that CRZ doesn't transcribe it in his recaps - Bless You CRZ.

I agree with Michealangelo in his return GBU (Welcome Back!) The 'What?' has a place during Austin Promos but not during anyone else's. And defenetly not during the US anthem.

How to solve it? Ignore it. Don't have anyone react to it....if you really want to kill it, have AUSTIN ignore it completly.

I do mark out to 'What?' at times and not seeing it transcribed makes it even more fun when reading the recaps
Because you KNOW where the what chant is supposed to go.
Admit it, when somebody runs down a list of whatever it might be, you go 'what?'in your mind.

However, it is getting old, especially when people in the crowd do it all the time.
The only way to stop this, as said already is have Austin ignore it (and have him stop listing things)

Funny thing is, it's so big now, that if they have Austin ignore it, he'll be a heel! LOL

I don't usually say stuff like this, but I really, really liked the "What?" before the crowd got into it.

There is only one man that can stop "What?"
Only one man that can prevent your heads from exploding due to overuse of one of the 5 W's.
ONLY one man that make the dogs stop barking the same damn word...

THIS is that man.

The "What" has gotten so bad, people where I bowl on Tuesday night's were just saying it over and over and thinking it was the funniest thing in the world. The worst part is, they've been doing it for at least two months.

I don't mind. The crowd is entertained and people are having a good time. I much rather a hot crowd yelling what, than dead one. I think it is funny as hell that "What" is over. I am not so "smart" to get pissed when a crowd is having a good time.

Can't win? I think the WWF is winning with him for a certainty. The traits you just ascribed to him are the ones that make him *over*. The reason the crowd chants "What?" is because it is *over*. The casual fans *are* the ones that the WWF cares about because there are a trillion more of them than there are of us net geeks. Most wrestling fans don't spend too much time over-analyzing everthing in a public forum like we do. Once the majority of the fanbase is tired of the phrase, we wont hear it. Which will be never... Look at the "Whoo!"'s in the corner.. think thats going away? I remeber smart ranting about that too before the "What" business picked up. People like to have a level of participation in their show and "What?" is the crack of crowd participation.

Amen, dskillz. If the people enjoy it, then let them have their fun. It'll start to get old sooner or later and they'll move on to the next thing.

Of course, I did enjoy it alot more when he was a heel...had more impact to it. Like when he tossed the medeal and then looked into the camera and just said "What?"

But That's just the nature of the beast. The "smarts" catch on first and enjoy it, the "marks" come next, then the "smarts" get tired of it and complain. Sooner or later the "marks" will follow and we'll start the circle again. It's the cirrrrrrrrrcle, the circle of life!

But "what?" during the National Anthem is crap! Those people should be shot.

I find it harsd to even conceive a person who would think that yelling *anything* during the national anthem would be a good idea. Even harder to picture are the people who didn't beat these idiots into submission at the arena.

I was at the Trenton house show last Sunday and the fans were pretty restrained with the "whats." The only time it came up was when Tony Chimel stepped into the ring to hawk merchandise. I can't say I didn't like that ....
