I did`t actually know he`s already held that IC strap six times, but WO says so and therefore I guess itīs official!?

If Jericho beats Christian this Sunday at Unforgiven he will not only be remembered as the first ever Undisputed Champion - He will also be the greatest IC Champion of all time!

I think that would be a great decision! Y2J really deserves that! (And Jarrett damn sure doesnīt!)

What do you think?

And will that new record be finally reason enough for WWE to bring out a 2 DVD set for Chris Jericho in early 2005??
I really hope so!

By the way: Isnīt Jericho already one of the most decorated superstars in history? How many titles has he won?

1) Canadian Heavyweight Champion
2) WWA Tag Team Champion
3) NWA Middleweight Champion
4) Canadian Mid-Heavyweight Champion
5) International Junior Heavyweight Champion
6) ECW Television Champion
7-11) WCW Cruiserweight Champion (5 times!)
12) WCW World Television Champion
13) WCW World Champion (WWE Invasion Angle!)
14) WWF/WWE Hardcore Champion
15) WWF/WWE European Champion
16-18) WWF/WWE Tag Team Champion (3 times!)
19) WWF/WWE Undisputed World Champion
20-25) WWF/WWE Intercontinental Champion (6 times!)

(source: chrisjericho.com)

WOW! This one screams: DOUBLE-DVD!!!!

PS: Is it true? Jericho has never been the US Champion in WCW?? Thatīs weird, isnīt it? But what wasnīt weird in WCW?

Actually, depending on how you look at things, Jericho is already the most prolific Intercontinental Champion in WWE history, having held it six-and-a-half times. He won it on 12/12/99, 1/23/00, 5/2/00, 1/21/01, 9/16/02, and 10/27/03. In addition, the title was held up after a double-pinfall in a match against Chyna, and awarded to both Jericho and Chyna as co-Intercontinental Champions.

No he was never US champ but he is a member of the grand slam club (very prestegious) and is also (according on how you look at it) the first ever undisputed champ. He is undoubtably the MVP of WWE who watches DVD's of the OC that he got from DDP on Ebay...sorry, channeled of one his promos there.

I really don't buy into that "he must be the greatest champion ever, he's held the belt the most amount of times" theory. Surely that means he's also lost the belt the most as well?

I think Jericho's botched undisputed title reign may leave him as the greatest midcard wrestler of our time. That status could have been claimed by Benoit or Eddy, but they managed to hold the belt with a tad more substance to their reigns.

Jericho needs the belt right now. He's been treading water for ages and could gain some much needed momentum by repeatedly fending off Edge/Christian/Tomko. But he needs a new finisher. The Lionsault is a false finisher and the Walls is only randomly effective. The most recent tweak to his move set is the Jeric-Ho Train (running in place before the rope straddle), and it ain't doing jack for me.

Giving him the Highlight Reel in lieu of a true wrestling angle is not a fair deal, and I still think he can carry the big belt with credibility. But they have to establish him again as a crafty, successful wrestler who can brawl, cheat, work submission moves and fly around enough to match the cruiserweights.

Jericho has been using the running enziguiri as his sub-finisher for a while now. That's a much more impressive move than either the Lionsault or the watered-down version of the Walls.

I thought the Breakdown was a good finisher for Jericho, but he seems to have stopped using it.

Has Jericho really won the IC title 6 times? I suppose its six if you count him co-holding the title with Manchina and I guess when he beat RVD then promptly lost it. Though I wasn't sure if that title reign was official. Anyone want to clarify that?

'Cuz I love you guys so much (in a homely, manly way, that is), here's a record of Jericho's I-C Title wins and losses, according to Solie's Vintage Wrestling.

I-C Reign #1:
--Won from Chyna, 12/12/99, WWF Armageddon
--Lost when the title was held up to a controversial match with Chyna, taped on 12/28/99 (aired on 12/30/99), WWF SmackDown!

The Shared I-C Title Reign:
--Became co-holder (with Chyna) of the title by order of Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley, 1/3/00, WWF RAW is WAR
--Became undisputed Intercontinental Champion by defeating Chyna and Hardcore Holly in a triple-threat match, 1/23/00, WWF Royal Rumble

I-C Reign #2:
--Won by defeating Chyna and Hardcore Holly to earn sole ownership of the title, 1/23/00, WWF Royal Rumble
--Lost to Kurt Angle, 2/27/00, WWF No Way Out

(Note: Between these two I-C Title reigns, Chris Benoit pinned Chris Jericho in a triple-threat match also involving Angle to become I-C Champion. Jericho later won the European Title in that match, losing it the next day to Eddie Guerrero.)

I-C Reign #3:
--Won from Chris Benoit, taped 5/2/00 (aired 5/4/00), WWF SmackDown
--Lost to Chris Benoit in his third I-C Title defense of the evening (having previously defeated The Big Show and Kurt Angle to hold on to the title) after special referee Triple H screws Jericho, 5/8/00, WWF RAW

I-C Reign #4:
--Won from Chris Benoit in a ladder match, 1/21/01, WWF Royal Rumble
--Lost to Triple H, taped 4/3/01 (aired 4/5/01), WWF SmackDown!

I-C Reign #5:
(Note: This was his first I-C Title reign after winning the Undisputed Title)
--Won from Rob Van Dam, 9/16/02, WWE RAW
--Lost to Kane, 9/30/02, WWE RAW

I-C Reign #6:
--Won from Rob Van Dam with an assist from Eric Bischoff, WWE RAW, 10/27/03
--Lost to Rob Van Dam after Steve Austin ordered an immediate rematch in a steel cage, WWE RAW, 10/27/03

I've always argued (and always will) that Chris Jericho's first reign was from December 12, 1999 to February 27, 2000 and he's only had 5 reigns. The title was held up and a draw declared on the Chyna double-pin...but Jericho NEVER lost the title, was always considered (co)champion during the period and in the event of a draw or double-pin or double-KO, the champion retains. They even dusted off the rule at the Royal Rumble this year.

It's worth noting that Jericho's run as WCW World Champ came after WCW had been purchased by the WWE, so the fact that he didn't hold the WCW US title isn't so odd. Normally one wouldn't go from having been TV Champ to World Champ in WCW without putting in some time with the US strap, but Jericho was out of WCW before he was entrenched in that upper-mid card level.

Did Jericho's first I-C Title reign end with the loss to Angle? That's certainly a point that could be debated either way. Playing Devil's advocate for a moment, the double-pin in this scenario was unique because two different referees argued for two separate individuals. In the case of the Royal Rumble match between Triple H and Shawn Michaels, there was only one referee, and neither man could answer the three-count.

So the Jericho/Chyna match was called a draw only because the referees couldn't decide who won, while the Triple H/Shawn Michaels match was ruled a draw because clearly, neither man won. There's a subtle distinction there, I think.

But I can certainly see the merits of your argument as well, Freeway. So, bah... I'll just state the facts from the perspective of the website that I traditionally go to for such information, and acknowledge that there's more than one interpretation of the events, which is no more or less valid than the other.

Now, let's all sing Goom-Ba-Ya around a campfire while holding hands. “Goom-Ba-Ya, my Lord, Goom-Ba-Ya...”

If regional titles are being counted, Jericho isn't even close. Between the AWA, World Class/USWA, and Memphis, Lawler is well into triple digits. The funny thing is that despite having so many championship reigns, in the dozen years he has been active/semi-active in the WWF/E, Lawler hasn't had a title reign (unless I'm blocking out a hardcore title reign). Considering the devaluation of belts during his stint under Vince, it is surprising that Lawler never picked up even a token belt.
