I've watched TNA for a while. The Pounce is one of worst moves ever. You'd think Brown being an ex linebacker, the Pounce would be some sort of blindside hit, coming off of a blitz. (See Troy Aikman versus the Eagles cerca 1989-90)
Monty Brown is getting better every week. He's far from the best, but he's got an unbelievable amount of charisma, in the ring and on the mic. As long as they keep him in squash matches and with guys he can be carried by (AJ, AMW) hes a really good talent.

Yeah it is a lame move...and he still needs a lot of work. I would like to see how he might develop under OVW, because he's definitely got a good look, his gimmick and actions are just a little lame...
Everytime he says "The Pounce", he reminds me of Cat from Red Dwarf.

I like The Alpha Bomb since it's a more convincing finisher.
But The Pounce is pretty cool. I mean who would of ever guessed that an Elbow Drop around 1997 would become the most electrifying move in all of sports entertainment.
I dunno... granted, it's just a bodyblock, but he delivers it with a helluva lotta force, and if sold right, you could realistically believe it could knock someone silly for a few seconds. I've only seen Brown perform the move once, on one of TNA's Fox Sports shows, against some old African-American guy, but it was convincing enough to get me to mutter "... damn" when he hit the guy and "sent him flying" across the ring.
Contrast that with, say, John Cena's F-U, which is basically a standing fireman's carry takeover. Not even a body slam.
Is the Pounce a fantastic finisher? Nope. Would it be better as a setup move? Prolly. But it's kinda like JBL's Clothesline From Hell... it really shouldn't be a finisher, but it looks nasty enough that it can pass for one.

Theres no need to bring JBL into this, we're talking about wrestlers who don't completely suck.

Make no mistake - Monty Brown has a ridiculous amount of charisma; he's way into the Alpha Male gimmick and really looks like he has fun in the ring. I've always figured that if TNA were to sadly one day (and I hope that's not anytime soon) - among people Vince should try to snag, he's definitely one of them.
Now, the POUNCE~! (period) IS nothing more than a tackle from the side but the person on the receiving end has to sell it like it's so devastating and legit. Just look to AJ Styles or a couple of the jobbers on Impact who literally get launched across the ring on how to sell the Pounce.
For all his shortcomings in the ring (and he does have plenty), that doesn't excuse the way he's been so poorly booked. Monty's usually booked in 1-2 minute squash matches every week on Impact and when it comes time for him to wrestle someone important, they job him to Jeff Hardy.
As damn entertaining as he is, you can see why you have Jeff Jarrett calling him a "Double A player trying to get to the majors" and some others saying how he's not even close to ready.
I'm sort of wondering if they should bring in a 2nd tier title akin to the WWE US or IC title for TNA to help out guys in Monty's position. He's way over but he's not quite ready for the World Title.
I actually agree, the Pounce is nothing special. There are so many variations of the damned Spear that it's got to end somewhere. I don't think Monte is money, though. The guy is already stale and I think if Vince ever decided to use him it would be a mistake. I would like to see a few Monte-Benoit matches though - that might be fun.
Anyway, whenever I hear them talk about the Pounce, I harken back to Hobbes pouncing Calvin as he got home from school. Maybe they could throw Monte in Brian Pillman's old ring gear and go from there.
--- Will Eugene go apeshit and turn heel tonight on RAW?
--- And how exactly will HBK return and work his Sweet Chin Music into the segment. Maybe a costly run-in during the Orton-Kane match? Ehhh, why not.
--- If the Divas get nekkid I bet we'd all care more.

But they just recently got him OUT of the Tiger-stripe gear... If he incorporated a lariat into the pounce, it'd look better.
