I'm not a big time Anime Otaku, although I do own a few "mainstream" Anime movies. 2 weeks ago the film rights to Akira and Ninja Scroll were optioned for a live action version. All I can say is good luck to the poor schmoe who has to make a live action Akira. The budget is in the 50 million price. Do you guys think Hollywood can pull it off? They did screw up Fist Of The North Star a few years ago. But, at least they tried right?
What Anime Movies/Series/OVA would you like to see get made and who do you want to direct it, star in it ..etc...
Rumor has it that Joel "I totally fucked the Batman franchise" Schumacher wants to get his slimy hands on the rights Ghost In The Shell. Everyone knows the Wachowski Brothers want to do adapt that, but they have their hands full with the Matrix trilogy untill at least 2004. I predict a lot more Anime Rights to be snatched up by the big Studios just as fast as the comics rights were a few years ago.
Ugh. No, it's a bad idea. I think "The Grinch" proved pretty handily that some things work animated and some things work in live action, but most of either don't translate from live-action to animated.
"Ghost In The Shell," hoever, should be just as dull in live action as it was animated.
I knew they were planning a "Dragon Ball Z" live-action movie, which I guess means no one saw the FIRST live action movie they tried to make outta Dragonball. If you didn't, I have--It hurt. It was like watching "Flash Gordon" on blotter acid, only not as fun.
My answer is. . .Nahhh. . .I'd like the major studios to leave 'em alone. The last thing I wanna see is movies strip-mining anime as bad as they have TV and comics. Maybe I'm naive, but I keep praying someone will bring "original movies not pimped out from another source" back as a fad.

Gundamn Wing could work. They'd probably fuck it up, but an original story with the characters from Gundam Wing would be pretty fucking cool.

Endless Waltz doesn't really stand on it's own though, without the series. And then, if you'd watched the series you have to wonder why they fucked up the whole backstory.
I don't think Gundam Wing would work at all. There's no way you can cram 49 episodes of character development in a 90-120 minute movie.
Altho they did try to do a live Gundam feature recently, which was. . .inoffensive I guess. Although it seems to posit that Canadians will be the only nation to colonize space.
Uhnm. . . NO. The idea of a live-action Cowboy Bebop is really really stupid. Leave it animated and for God's sakes, leave it alone. They already did a movie and it kicked ass.

I'd have to agree that this is a bad idea only because there is no one on this planet who is cool enough to play Ed
The best Anime to adapt would be one without ridiculous special effects (so no Gundam) and not too many Japanese cultural references (so Tenchi Muyo is out.)
Personally I'd give my left arm to see Gunsmith Cats in live action. It'd work as a straight up action movie, and the characters are all American anyway.
Halle Berry as Rally
Mena Suvari (from American Pie and American Beauty) as May (she's the only one I can think of who's over 18 and still looks like a kid)
The Rock as Bean Bandit
The jury's still out on Becky, Ken, and Misty.

There was a live action version of 8Man a while back. When it came to the US they used the same voice actors that do the dubbed version of the anime for the love verison. But 8Man never looked right. He was too short, face looked wrong, and the story had him having to smoke cigarettes in order to beat the villian. It was... not good.
And don't get me started on the US made live action version of Guyver.

The first Guyver movie was shit. When the best part of the movie is Jimmie Walker exploding, you have problems. The scond movie was way coloser to the original manga/anime and featured some of the best fight work in movies ever.
In principle, I'm against most animated-to-live movies but in "Guyver 2's" case (especially seeing as how it wasn't a straight adaptation) it came off well.

Perfect Blue would work. It has some weird cultural references, but if you transpose Japanese idoramus for American teen idols like Britney, it could work. Of course, they would probably try to get Britney for the lead which would be *shudder* craporific.
By the same director, Millenium Actress would work.
There was also a Japanese horror Anime that I saw last year that would transpose well which was about demons masquerading as Urban Legends and a strange woman that kills them, what was it called...
Oh yeah, "Boogie Pop Phantom"
The director of Pacte des Loups did a version of Crying Freeman with Mark Dacastos which has never been released here in North America. There are two other Japanese/Hong Kong adaptations that are strange.
The live adaptations of Lone Wolf were good/weird/good/bloody/good.
CTU has become such a dismal place now that Mason is gone. And by dismal, I mean dismal to watch. I absolutely loathe the Michelle/Paula2 storyline so far. Tony is good, but this whole "love triangle" is giving me bad feelings.
