Unreal story from MSNBC today about what happened to Ruland Gardner in 2002 in a snowmobile mishap .
You have to think he's trying to prove that 2000 wasn't a fluke, and that there'll be 1 or 500 mentions of the thing with his toe, since if an competing athlete has a hangnail NBC runs with it as a human interest story.
This was huge news when it happened. If I remember correctly, I saw him on Letterman about three weeks after it happened. He was on more than one talk show to talk about losing the toe...
Well a Bronze medal with no freaking middle toe is pretty impressive.
I wonder if he would consider going pro like Angle. Kurt said a couple of years ago that if the business wants to evolve they need more olympic wrestlers to turn pro because as it is the only guys who can really stay with him are Eddie and Benoit.
If I recall correctly, Vince offered Gardner a WWF developmental contract four years ago after his gold medal victory, and Gardner declined.
But since his amateur career might be over, I'm curious as to whether Gardner would wish to join WWE now. I hope so.

You know, I watched the replay of the bronze medal match, and that is just WAY TOO MUCH time spent hugging between two big sweaty, half-naked men for me. It took them FOREVER to get into position when they were in overtime.

If every week on Raw A-Train and the Big Show had a legit Greco-Roman match, YOU wouldn't want to watch it either. :)
I was just saying that part of being a wrestling fan is coming to terms with the fact that the "sport" we love is quite homoerotic.
I'm a huge wrestling fan, growing up in a wrestling family, and Greco-Roman wrestling is just plain boring. The whole "no legs" thing really messes stuff up, in terms of excitement for me. The whole point is to pummel until you get an inside advantage, and then toss.
Now, the freestyle coming up is going to be super exciting. It's a shame the coverage sucks so much that I'll only get to see U.S. wrestlers, and only then if they're up for medals.

Please don't just post articles. Feel free to give a link to the articles (posting the whole thing in the thread is kinda pointless), but if you're going to start a topic, have something to say yourself about the topic. Thanks.
