My cousin's wife , Liz Merrifield Filter, is one of the 3 women representing the US in the Women's Yngling Class Sailing - soon to be seen on Bravo
Go Liz Go !!!
I just saw them win their heat on the "D" course on Bravo. I was waiting for the judo to start and it was fascinating to watch all of those small sailboats jockey for position. The commentary was very stream of consciousness.
Liz also cut a decent promo!
Also, the Telemundo coverage has been very good (it's all in Spanish, CRZ) with almost exclusively boxing and soccer (Paraguy vs Italy rocked).

Yay..Pieter vd Hoogenband won the 100 mtr freestyle as defending champion. Something only Johnny Weismuller and Alexandr Popov have done before him. This guy swims just as fast as Tarzan!!
Was nice to see him go nuts, beating the swimmer from South-Africa by 6/100th of a second!
I was petrified looking at the shot put for women. They could beat up the Big Show it seems..*shiver*
Gratz to Andy Hamilton for a superb cycling timetrial. Showing that US cycling isn't just about Lance Armstrong. I wonder though how many coverage his medal will get.. oh, and Bobby Julich (also USA) came in 3rd)

I don't believe they've had Olympic programming on other networks during NBC Primetime coverage, if that's when you're checking.
By Cable Guide I meant the Guide Plus thingy that I get from my cable service that comes up on the TV. The reason I asked here is because as I say it seems to happen as I'm flipping through channels. Since I'm doing that, I'm not especially paying close attention to the time and as such it's hard to compare to a schedule later.
That said, after I typed my initial query last night, I happened to flip to Bravo at 11:00 p.m. (Central) where the Olympics were listed as being on. (NBCOlympics.com has coverage starting at 12:00 on Bravo. I'm going to assume that's EST since NBC's coverage of the Olympics ended at 11:00 (Central) although they don't list anywhere which time zone they are being listed in.)
No Olympic coverage. There was some other show going on. Checked back 5 minutes later, just in case that show ran late. Nope.
So I don't know what's going on. :p

That's Waukesha's very own Paul Hamm winning(NBCOlympics.com) the very first Team USA men's all-around gymnastics gold!
And that's despite a lousy vault that only garnered him a 9.137.

Holy shit! I just watched the Mixed Badminton finals. What an exciting game. I was amazed at the speed of the game. China came back from a huge deficit to win, and the crowd was the loudest other than the USA v Greece Bball game, I have heard at the Olympics so far. Great crowd excitement. The man on China's team kept stalling and had the crowd booing him, drawing HHH level heat. It was great.
That was an extraordinary match indeed. The crowd was nuts. I tuned in because I had never seen Olympic badminton before and it totally sucked me in. Didn't hurt that Gail Emms of Great Britain was kinda cute, too.
Last night, watching the basketball, was the worst tease of my sport watching life. The Aussies smashed the US team in the first quarter. Held them in the second half to get my hopes up and then took an almighty dive in the 3rd and 4th quarters. Shawn Marion and LeBron made the difference in the second half, that and woeful shooting/passing by the Aussies.
One thing, that didn't really affect the result, but was glaringly pathetic, was the officiating. Offensive fouls for breathing on a defender, CJ Bruton got called for a defensive foul when he was standing a foot away with his hands by his sides not touching anyone. I'm not the greatest judge, but when Andrew Gaze is scratching his head in commentary you have to believe something is very wrong. They mentioned that Euro League refs are not FIBA sanctioned, so the best European refs don't go to the Olympics. That's weak, especially if you have to put up with the dregs who called last nights game.
This will be the last time I post about this, but I'm still looking for verificiation (or a reason to go hunt down my local cable guys)
At this very moment (8:50 a.m. EST), Bravo has the Olympics listed on both the cable guide and NBCOlympics.com. However tuning it in I get a Celebrity Poker Showdown repeat.
9:01 and still a Grrr... We're now on to Queer Eye and Olympics still listed.

A stupid question for the non Americans, on the womens gymnastics last night, did the American girl who won go last or not? I swore I saw the French girl doing the bars while she was hugging everyone.
NBC, has a tendency to creatively edit and rewrite these things, to make them more dramatic, as in 96 when the Russian had no chance of winning after Kerri Strungs first vault(they were so far behind), but it was sold that as if it were. Just wondering if that were the case last night.

I hadn't seen that before until last night, and the first two girls I saw both went off the tramp, with the second one being the reigning gold medalist who ended up on her ass. They were going CRAZY high on that thing. I'd watch that if it was on TV occassionally, it's they closest thing to an X Games event they have.

Speaking of announcing annoyances, do the Volleyball announcers not know that the US Women's team is not made up of 6 players all named "Logan Tom?" It got so annoying hearing her name mentioned during every single play, we did a little test - during one commercial-to-commercial run my wife counted all the times they mentioned her name. I counted all the times they mentioned someone else on the team's name. 14-6, Tom over the rest of the girls.

That wasn't really a choke. Jefferson was pretty hot down the stretch. It was more a result of them letting Sarunas Jasikevicus kill us with three threes in the last two minutes. I mean he was the hottest hand they had for the whole game, and they still couldn't figure out they needed to guard him. Plus, as hard as it is to say, it seems like Lithunia is a better team and that wasn't a game that the US was *supposed* to win.
Most exciting sport that I've watched thus far? Team handball! It's a combination of basketball and soccer, with a little hockey thrown in there as well. It's fast-paced, physical, and damn fun to watch.
