I seem to keep putting KZiM on the back burner, which is sad, given that I have this special forum for it and all...

ANYWAY, while I was busy putting off updating the [slash], I DID manage to get the Archives in order.

While Kim was out here, we went to San Francisco and I showed her all the record stores I never went to for years because of my near-terminal financial situation. I guess my situation is a little better because I'm pretty sure I dropped (embarrassing amount of money deleted for my protection) on records and CDs. That's why I don't go there except for SPECIAL occasions

And it wasn't MY fault - Streetlight SF had a blockbuster, boffo CD single sale - all kinds of $9.98 imports HAD to go at $1.95/$2.95/$3.95 - I would have been nuts NOT to fill up a basket with bargainzz!

So when it was all said and done I ended up catalogging another couple hundred things and NOW the KZiM Archives as-official-as-it's-gonna-get count stands at (drum roll, please):

5211.

There's probably a few things in my PO Box, too.

This morning, when I FINALLY figured out how to get our department's printer to be seen on my patch of the Network (I ended up changing the Appletalk parameters on the printer - who knew? All that time troubleshooting my Mac completely wasted) so I could print out another hardcopy to put in the safe (aka "my parents' house"), I ALSO learned that the new HP Printer Drivers I downloaded had hooks to an old copy of Distiller - what does this mean? Why, it means that those of you who were never interested in downloading the full text/Word versions of the big catalog can ALSO not be interested in downloading a PDF version of that very same catalog! It's 142K and 84 pages long (whew! That's a lotta tunes!) and is really good to browse when you're sitting on the can - I recommend shrinking it down to nine pages per piece of paper so you can get out for ten sheets - I'm talking about paper, not TP, folks. Come on.

Online version is still here, of course.

Now hopefully I can goad some people into talking about things I have, do I like them, do I LISTEN to them, will I rip them for you, any funny stories or trivia I should share to look totally geeky - I mean, knowledgable and credibilitiable, &c.

The OTHER thing is my DSL was moved away from the company firewall so now I can actually run AudioGalaxy with MacSatellite - as if I didn't have ENOUGH music, right? But I'm only using it to get stuff I can't seem to find...at the moment, anyway. Soon, very soon I shall have the most complete collection of Giorgio Moroder songs in the world!!!!

Okay, that's all I got for now. CLICK CLICK CLICK

I bow to the master. In seriousness, how long did it/ does it take you to do a full listing of your music. We just moved to our first house and I have to itemize my music collection for the homeowners so I am just curious if you have any idea how much time you have spent on your list. Of course, my collection is much smaller since it only has about 700 45's, 400 albums, and 600ish cd's.

Picking two at random, although not really random, because then I wouldn't know what I was talking about to an even greater extent...

If you like the Steely Dan that you have, and since you have a few, I'm guessing you do, you should look into Pretzel Logic. I think that's their best album and probably covers the most range for their style. I picked up the Two Against Nature DVD not too long. I saw it when the concert aired on PBS, but it was cheap, so I picked it up since all the performances were good. The little interview segments are fun for seeing them ask the guy who runs a fanclub which former session musicians hate them and why. And in the beginning, some guy in line for the show is waxing rhapsodic about them and then his girlfriend ruins the moment for him by thinking they did "Year of the Cat" and the guy looks mortified.

To possibly enrage you by taking this further on a tangent, I also recently bought the DVDs of the failed ELO Zoom concert tour and the Best of Blur video thing.

But back to the Archives - what else is on the Pulp singles you have, if you don't mind looking? I found their rejected unsolicited theme for the Tomorrow Never Dies Bond movie online. I thought they had other songs on "This Is Hardcore" (like the title song itself) that would have made better Bond songs, but it was still pretty cool.

Generally, I list every track on a single, so if you only see one track in the listing, it's just mixes of the same track.

I now have them here in front of me:

Pulp - This is Hardcore (Island CIDX 695)
This is Hardcore
1. original version
2. 4 Hero remix
3. Swedish Erotica remix [remix by Tipsy]
4. Stock, Hausen & Waterman remix

Pulp - Party Hard (Island CIDX 719)
1. Party Hard
2. Party Hard Stretch 'n' Verns Michel Lombert remix
3. Party Hard I Hardly Part mix [remix by The All Seeing I]

bash91, it takes FOREVER....but it usually takes longer for me to psyche up to actually doing it then to actually do it. If that helps. (It probably doesn't. ;-) )

Quick question: Why do some entries have an asterisk next to them? I noticed this several times while scanning the list.

Those are CDs (or, very rarely, MiniDiscs). So ones WITHOUT that star are records (or, very rarely, tapes). That's a holdover from when I barely had ANY CDs, but it's come to easily signify "things that I can rip if were into depriving the recording industry of money, not that I'm saying I am"

On the to-do list when I buy my new computer is to rig up an audio link from my mixing board straight into the computer so I can digitize the stacks of wax for posterity (and probably make CD-R backups, too) WOW I must think I have a lot of free time coming up or something! Maybe I'll rewrite the FAQ while I'm at it HAR HAR HAR

and i thought i was hot shit for having 600 cds.

they're GOOD cds though!

YOU don't have the "farewell fondle 'em" compilation. nuh-uh. and that record label had the coolest logo this side of the alkaholiks.

edit: and i'm able to post on the board again because one of my isp's dnses went tits up - unbeknownst to them. it took me days to wonder why i could connect just fine via kppp - because it pointed to another frickin' dns!
