We're almost there. the mythical 700 HR mark. Only eight more to go and the way Bonds is hitting them right now we could be there by the end of the month. I'm simply amazed at the way Bonds is shrugging off the media attention throughout this. It hasn't made his sense of urgency any more heightened. He's still walking an insane amount and hitting the pitches he does get a ton. The disipline Bonds shows at the plate is unreal. It's got to be tempting to go up there hacking after not being pitched to for a night and a half.

He's K'd only 24 times this year and walked 172 times! His on OBP is .607. God, it would be scary if the Giants actually put a legitimate threat behind him.

He will make it this year with some luck but you hit the nail on the head. In games with teams in contention, he will get little to hit.

It turns my stomach to think of him ahead of Babe Ruth and closing in on Aaron. Makes me wanna puke.

There are few athletes in the world whom I wish would suffer tragic, career-ending folding-couch injuries, but Barry Bonds is one of them.

I want to call bullshit on all the Barry bashing going on. Even if he is taking or did take some type of substance that was illegal he still has to hit the ball. His bat speed is amazing probably the best I have ever seen. Just because he might have cheated you cant discount the whole decade of the 90s when Barry owned baseball. Fact is the guy is the best player of our lifetime and maybe the best of all time even though he is a cheating dick.

They have a good shot, but don't forget Griffey was on pace to easily outdo whatever Bonds put up in the long run.

The whole roid thing bugs me, but maybe not as much as with McGwire who was just mashing shit. Bonds is like a surgeon up there with the stick. Barry Bonds the person seems like a dickhead however. I can see him being one of those old men who are not all that great or all that willing to be an ambassador for the game of baseball. Hank Aaron brings a bit of class out there, while Barry is Barry and probably always will be Barry.

Let me say this, I could give a rats ass about Bonds and possible illegal substances or steroids, or any other supplement that helped him develope physically. I HATE Barry Bonds because he is a fucking dick. He is selfish, childish, self centered, and a prick who carries himself as if he is above the team, and when you have 24 other guys busting thier asses every day, to have that kind of attitude is nauseating.

He has a recliner and big screen TV in a corner of the locker room, and NOBODY but Barry is allowed to watch it. He hit his record tying homer and nobody came out of the dugout to congradulate him. Coincidence? He, until the past year or two, disappeared in the post season. I mean, those Pirate teams were pretty damn good, and he just packed it in. Then a few years later at an all star game, during an interview, he says "I always enjoy the all star games, because its the closest I will ever get to playing in the World Series." Not, "Its an honor to be chosen as one of the best by the fans of this great game" or "Its just a privlidge to play on the same field as all of these terrific guys" But, *I* like it because its the closest *I* will get to a world series.

Fuck Barry Bonds. I have never wished an brain hemorage on anybody, but, Barry certainly seems like a good candidate.

Right, I am a bit tired of the Bonds hate as well. I cannot, and will not refute that he is a jerk. I don't know the man personally, but going on what people have said he isn't a nice, friendly person.

So what?

I mean it's not as if Baseball ability and congeniality is going to get handed out to every damn superstar. No matter how big of an ass he may be, you can't deny his skill, which can't be solely based on him taking supplements to bulk up, legal or otherwise.

Now would there be as much bitching if he didn't set the single season record, and was making way into historic tier of homerun hitters? No. Sure people would still dislike him, but it wouldn't seem so damned fashionable to hate him.

Maybe I am defending him cause he is on the team I am a fan of, or it could just be all anger, hatred, or whatever else it is, looks pointless to me. I might hate him if he was on the Dodgers, but I could still respect what he's done (at least until there is proof of steroid usage on his part). Would you hate him as much if he was on the team that you liked?

Well I don't care about the Giants and I'm tired of the Bonds hating. It's a little, dare I say, childish. I don't really care if he gave the beat writer in Pittsburgh a wedgie or told Jeff Kent his moustache is stupid, I love watching Bonds hit. I appreciate that I'm getting to see a hitter the caliber of which only comes along three, maybe four times a century.

Baseball has a long history of assholes. Ruth and Gehrig didn't speak to each other. Rogers Hornsby was a jerk. Ted Williams was arrogant. Joe DiMaggio, if he were around today and not a Yankee, would have been considered a prick because he didn't like to talk to anyone. Ty Cobb? He was a racist, downright mean person who looked to injure his opposition. I think Ruth summed up Cobb, the unquestionable king of baseball's great and legendary dicks, best when he said, "Cobb is a prick. But he sure can hit. God Almighty, can that man hit."

Bonds isn't even the biggest asshole of the last decade. I would give that distinction Albert Jojuan "Joey" Belle, who I didn't like even when he was playing on my favorite team. People forget Belle being SUCH a huge asshole because he wasn't as good as Bonds and didn't last as long. This plays into there being far bigger jerks in the game than Bonds, but they aren't any good so who cares. Have you heard some of the stuff about Chris Stynes?

He is a jerk but possibly the most feared hitter in the history of the game. And when he was younger one hell of a fielder an baserunner.

In life we seem to equate nice with ability and jerk with none for soem reason. I don't care if my surgeon is a prick if he is the best at what he does and I certainly don't want a nice incompetent one.

I think his attitude definitly keeps the media and the fans at more of a distance than say McGwire, but it probably also takes away a good deal of the pressure. He isn't out there trying to please anyone else but himself. Maybe the pressure and attention will wear on Barry more when he gets closer to Ruth and then Aaron, but even then I can't see it bothering him too much.

That was the point I was trying to make, but aparent failed. And I agree with pretty much everything else. Even without the power he's got one of the best swings, and overall ability.

I mean I guess I find this kind of hatred towards baseball players just stupid. I really don't dislike anyone, except for a particular Dodger, when they do something to the Giants. Though I wouldn't be opposed to the Giants getting Gagne.

But with Bonds, I'd pick him over Sosa any day of the weak. He's a better pure hitter, and you don't hear about his mistakes in the field as often. And he is carrying the damn team, I don't think Sosa could do that. (Come on, it's him [Bonds] and Schmidt, and they're trying for a playoff berth through sheer willpower alone. If they get the wildcard give him the damn MVP, and Schmidt the Cy Young while they're at it. Or maybe wonder if J.T Snow sold his soul.)

Bonds doesn't seem care as much about the fans reactions as others. I almost get the feeling he'd try to foul balls at hecklers for fun. Now tell me you wouldn't want to see that. Though likely he would never notice said heckler to begin with. Still as Mr. Stewart said his mental toughness may start to crack the closer he gets to Ruth and Aaron. But we'll have to see.

Cry all you want, the guy does his fucking job better than any player in the world despite being 40 years old and seeing maybe 3 hittable pitches per game. I don't care what goes on off the field, or how his mind works if, when between the lines, he does his job. And I certainly wouldn't wish death upon him or "hate" him over some petty bullshit that has absolutely nothing to do with me.

I'm just enjoying watching perhaps the greatest hitter in the history of the game. It's too bad he doesn't get the kind of pitches Pujols or A-Rod get. He'd be at least pushing 800 right now if that was the case. If he had Pujols' AB total this year, he'd have 56 homeruns and 125 RBIs right now.

In other words, he'd have the fucking TRIPLE CROWN all but wrapped up. At 40 years-old. And some funny people want to say Scott Rolen is the MVP. Now THAT's nauseating.

Screw the haters, Barry, and do what you gotta do to catch Babe and Hank.

That list seems pretty darn accurate as mine. I might be having more of a leaning of putting Olerud at first. But Delgado does have the power and might be better defensively.
