- Two WWE talents were very upset after their matches at SummerSlam last night. Edge and The Undertaker were both dumbfounded with the reactions they received from the crowd.

Edge was said to be stunned and fairly angry with the fans reaction, given the fact that the event was taking place in his hometown of Toronto, and that was recognized during his ring entrance. The Undertaker was reportedly very pissed with his fan reaction, which was minimal due to many fans joining in with Paul Nemer's WAVE that he started during the match.

One idea for the JBL vs. Taker match was to have Jon Heidenreich get involved and cost Taker the match, however Heidenreich was left out of the match, many credit that to Taker's backstage pull, in order to avoid a feud with a young, green wrestler.

I wouldn't doubt that there were more than a couple of SH*T Bricks laying around last night after the way those fans reacted.

-Talent pissed, yeah!
-Vince pissed, probably going, "What the HELL?"
-Most all of us pissed?

Well, it did confuse me because all the people I though would be cheer got almost nothing. Heck Eugene was almost booed out of the building except for the Stunner pop.

Anyways, this almost belongs in the other thread but I'm going to leave it here due to the fact how I rarely post anymore.

Nah, I think King's explanation of how they were in 'Bizarro-world' will cool everyone down. Pretty foolproof if you ask me.

I can understand Edge being upset, but Undertaker hasn't been with the company long enough to know NEVER try figuring out Canadian crowds yet?

I don't know why they'd be so upset. I mean, if one mega-babyface got booed, or if one main-event match got little to no reaction (or COMPLETE apathy from the fans, like Undertaker/Bradshaw got), I could see them being quite pissed. But, since it happened basically all night, I'd think Vince would just figure "Weird crowd tonight." If it happens continuously, then make changes. If it doesn't, just figure that those Toronto fans are just whacky (WHACKY, I SAY!).

However, considering only three faces got real face reactions (Jericho, Van Dam, Cena), maybe they should take something from THAT.

I don't know why they were booing Edge so much, but all the fuss during the UT/JBL match was against the match itself and I don't think directed at either wrestler specifically. In fact, I think the "Spanish Table" chant got started a second time later in the match but it morphed into a "Let's Go Taker" chant.

Instead of being mad at the fans, maybe they should be mad at Vince and Stephanie for bad script writing.

Edge is not RAW material, go back to Smackdown! His lack of personality comes out when he is alone, and more so when he is surrounded by a talented mic person, like Jerico. If you cannot get a good reaction from your home crowd, then maybe you should be mad at yourself.

Undertaker should be upset at the JBL character's complete failure. The crowd had to entertain themselves, because the match sure was not entertaining.

"Blame Canada" is not 100% true in this case. WWE has been in Canada more the past year than I believe anytime before, they know what works, last night did not work

It got to the point where no wrestlers were taking it personally since the crowd was going against the grain on virtually everything, and turning on wrestlers based on something as basic as Eugene giving Hunter the finger.

I don't know that this version is any more right than other version, but it's enough to remind that any "Backstage, people said X" newsbit should be taken with a grain of salt.

Hey, if they can't handle the fact that they put us to sleep it's on them, not us. They're supposed to entertain, not cure insomnia.

I was in the crowd and I have to say that I was confused as well. I thought for sure Edge would get a great hometown reaction, but I saw a number of Edge Sucks signs and was concerned. I like Edge and I tried asking fans why the hate for Edge. I guess, because he's program says he is from Tampa instead of Toronto, they felt like it was a slap in the face. It didn't make sense to me, I overheard other rumors that Edge said some stuff about Toronto not being home or America is his home now. I can't confirm any of this, so take it as it is. I just think the crowd was being smarks the entire time and I expecting that more with big 4 events, but after being in Rumble this year, I am geering towards that theory. The Philly crowd was awesome though, so I am torn to whether its the big 4 events bring out the smarks or Canada crowds just hate the faces.

Taker got an awesome pop, but he is not Flair, Benoit or Kurt, so he can't carry JBL even these matches. Actually, I feel Kurt was slowing down Eddie and made their match less interesting. I love Kurt, but it might be time for him and Taker to head into the sunset. I just think JBL is not a crediable JBL, there were some JBL chants, but nothing to write home about. I just think if they take the title off of him soon, the better it will be for the company. I know the net is warming to him, but I don't think Vince wants the wave at every show.

Or maybe it's because Edge has been bland and boring since his return?

Do we now say that his actions on RAW were determined by the crowd booing him (and not accpeting him as a face) or do we say the Toronto crowd could tell from his recent behavior that he was a heel?

Is this going to be a feature of Canadian WWE PPVs of the future ?

As the commentators called it, 'Bizaro World'.

Earl Hebner has suffered 'You screwed Bret' chants for years. You wonder why he isn't stopped from refereeing a main event in Canada.

It could result in some fun possibilities. I envision a turtle-head Bradshaw jumping up and down on Jim Ross' lap, screaming "Bizzaro! I love you! Bizzaro! I love you!"

As a Torontonian, I can say I definitely would not cheer for Edge simply because he was born here, which he actually wasn't. He's from Orangeville, so unless Buffalonians cheer people from Cheektowaga, just 'cuz it's close, why would Toronto cheer Edge? For that matter, I would not cheer for anyone because they were born here. Does anyone remember when Kurt Angle was undefeated, and he went against the Rock in Pittsburgh, Angle's hometown of course, and they booed him and cheered Rocky? The idea that someone's place of birth alone is going have them over is absurd.

Bret Hart, Lance Storm, these guys were brilliant performers in the ring. They weren't cheered out of Canadian pride, but out of respect for their abilities. That doesn't mean they didn't milk the nationality aspect, sure they did, but the Tiger Ali Signh's and yes, the Edge's of the World can't piggyback on where they were born when they have glaring deficiencies.

I don't think "abandoning" the city means anything. Remember, Jericho was the guy who was the favourite according to the Toronto crowd, and he lives in Florida too. In fact, when I saw him at No Way Out in Montreal, he insulted the French-speaking portion of the audience in a promo (which sadly did not air on the ppv) in order to garner a heel reaction later. He didn't get one. He was cheered wildly, because he's Jericho and Jericho's the freakin' man no matter where he lives.

Most of the people I talk to think Edge sucks now, because he used to be funny and now he tries to be all scary and intense. It's not even remotely convincing. Maybe management is responsible for the personality change, but management doesn't come out to the ring, so the performers will, as always, be the ones who get flack for bad decisions and have crowds turn on them. Rock and Angle both put a lot of comedy into their main event personas, and that's the balance Edge needs to find if he's going to be over on the main event level. He was doing that on Smackdown before he got injured, if I recall correctly, and it was working, because he was over when he was there.

I think Angle even mentions something similar to that in his book. He said before a match in Pittsburgh, Vince was warning him to get ready to be boo'ed. Kurt basically told him that he was crazy because he was loved and adored in Pittsburgh and these were his people out there. Of course Kurt was soon shocked when the crowd practically boo'ed him out of the building.
