Here's the rundown for the Summerslam card, 13 days away, after last night's RAW:

World Heavyweight Title Match
Chris Benoit(c) vs. Randy Orton

WWE Title Match
John Bradshaw Layfield (c) vs. The Undertaker

WWE Intercontinental Title Match
Edge (c) vs. Chris Jericho vs. Batista

Grudge Match
Kurt Angle vs. Eddy Guerrero

Grudge Match
Hunter Hearst Helmsley vs. Eugene

Til Death Do Us Part Match (didn't they already have this type of match-up at Vengeance with Chris Benoit and HHH?)
Kane vs. Matt Hardy

Looks like it will be a RAW heavy show once again on this PPV. Still I think it would've been cool if they figured out a way to have a match for all the titles from both shows because that's yet to be done on PPV before. They should get at least 2 more matches from Smackdown, like a US title match and/or a WWE tag title or CW title match. Add maybe Tajiri and Rhyno vs. La Resistance for the World Tag Titles from RAW and you've got a solid 9 match card.

Despite my views of Randy Orton, I'm actually excited about his match with Benoit. I mean its a fresh match, a fresh feud. These guys have never been in the ring together one on one on TV or PPV. And even if Randy Orton wins, well its someone else holding/winning the title for once OTHER THAN HHH!

Geez Kane and Matt Hardy are wrestling again...after their boring match last month. A match that forces a woman into marriage, good God. A match to win the hand of Lita. This is quite possibly the stupidest match stipulation of all time. Right up there with kiss my ass and whatever that fucking Gold digging match in WCW was. This feud sucks, Kane's a jobber, I like Hardy, but their match at Vengeance wasn't very good, so its all just a waste of perfectly good PPV air time to me.

I think the IC title match could be great if its more like the 3-ways at Wrestlemania XX and Backlash instead of the more formulaic glorified handicap matches WWE did before then. With title reigns being so much longer recently, I don't see Edge losing. However, will Edge's loss of his title spark his much-rumored heel turn and maybe a feud with Chris Jericho? Perhaps Batista will win his first singles title here, infuriating Edge and causing him to turn on Jericho.

I think Kurt Angle needs a win over Eddy since it his comeback match and he needs to re-establish himself. Hopefully Angle won't hurt himself again. I mean he was put out due to his bad neck twice in 2003, and once again in 2004 for an even bigger amount of time. So I hope he can continue to wrestle good matches without worrying about his neck too much.

I'd kind of like to see Batista get the win for the IC Title(maybe some Flair shenanigans). Maybe despite Edge and Jericho's hate for one another they assure that they don't want any gold to return to Evolutoin but Edge screws Jericho over and doesn't make the save or something.

Either way it could set up some fun Evolution play as well if the Legend Killer failed and Batista was successful.

Well I have to say, I've really grown to enjoy Batista in the ring in recent months, and I'd be fine with him having a good run with the IC title. I mean when he was in his first tag team title reign with Flair, his matches were pretty bad, especially that tables match at Royal Rumble. But lately, his tag team matches and his singles matches have been pretty good, and he's impressing me a lot more than even Randy Orton. Maybe its just that he's wrestling other wrestlers that are probably better, but still he's been in some pretty decent matches lately.

And damn, was that Summerslam promo with Batista breakdancing awesome or what ?

Or Batista and the Legend Killer BOTH win leaving Flair and Triple H, who are supposedly the best ever and the best currently in the business, without titles.

Well, I'm so watching SummerSlam. I watched Mania and bought the Rumble, Mania & Backlash on DVD...and this looks to be another strong RAW-anchored card.

Benoit/Orton is the top match on the card according the the WWE's website. It looks to be good, with Benoit & Orton both looking motivated. Eugene/HHH could be odd, but if they let things go all-out we'll see a good brawl. The triple threat is a good way to let a strong worker like Jericho help hide the weaknesses in guys like Batista & Edge. Angle/Guerrero will rock my socks, and Hardy/Kane could go either way. I just hope they do the wedding on PPV so they can dust off the vintage 1991 SummerSlam "A Match Made In Heaven/A Match Made In Hell" billing. That ruled.

You know, I think they might be working towards some kind of Ladder of TLC Match with London/Kidman, the Dudleyz, and maybe Spike/Rey.

Probably not. Buzz says that Spike turns on Rey and we get Rey/London/Kidman vs. DudleyzX3 at SummerSlam.

RAW SummerSlam thoughts.

I just read on OnlineOnslaught that Shawn Michaels will be part of the September PPV. SummerSlam sounds like a good time for him to return and cost Kane the "Til death do us part" match.

It could be a good blow off match to this feud (Worst story of the year) and continue the HBK/Kane feud. Even better if someone runs into Lita and knocks the kid story out of her.

Also all the Orton turns face chat is crap. I hate to bring up the past but Orton is in the Windham/Lugar position, he should stay heel and elevate himself to Flair status. Being the Lugar of this group would be career suicide and his best bet would be staying heel and leading Evolution.

An Intercontinental title run for Batista and maybe a heel turn in the tag title picture, Evolution could be reborn. Keep Flair but reposition him into full time advisor!

Eugene could be a big part of the Evolution story and the Pay Per View. The character is starting to fade and it is almost time to slap a mask and new gimmick on Densmore.

It seemed Eugene broke character with the attack on HHH and the finger pointing after the match. I cannot see the Eugene from a month ago acting like that, and do not see it as evolutionizing the character. The mentally challenged would not change so radically and this is something WWE did not look at in this story.

At the PPV if Eugene wins then they could just have HHH disappear (being embarrassed) for a bit. When he comes back (a month or so) he finds his spot is gone in Evolution or is beaten down by Evolution after they let him assume leadership for a week or so.

September? Summerslam is in August smart one...

HA!!! I KNEW IT! The situation is PERFECT!

Good call, especially because Flair's wrestling skills are... yeah...

IF he does leave for awhile, its probably for the movie shoot he's doing.

I'd like to share a...revelation I had, during my time here. It came to me when I tried to...classify your species. I realized that you're not actually mammals. Every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with the surrounding environment but...you humans do not. You move to an area...and you multiply...until every natural resource is consumed. The only way you can survive is to... spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is?

A virus. Humans beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet...and we...are the cure.

Anti-
"September? Summerslam is in August smart one...

HA!!! I KNEW IT! The situation is PERFECT!"

The September PPV is after the SummerSlam in Aug, this is called building up to a PPV.

Anyone who calls Flair a skilled wrestler is obviously a newer fan. An older fan such as myself remembers a Flair that could beat the current version in under ten minutes. It is also a sad state that just because a guy can tell a great story, that he out-shines guys half his age. That is not a knock on Flair, just a general knock on high spots being what wrestling is about today.

No! I suggest HHH leave for a month and demand he sits at home doing nothing. Oh wait, maybe he could do a movie, or plant a garden, or get a nose job, wash the car, start a war, go to college, I do not care what he does, as long as he stays off TV to sell the "wrestling angle" that he is part of.

NEWS FLASH: Eugene is not retarded! Shawn Michaels' throat is not broken! George Steele is really not an animal!Wrestling has storylines.

Anti, I do not usally go after people with a flame, and I am sure I will get in trouble for this one, but just because you may not like the person writing the thread is no reason to attack ,especially with no valid points.

I apologise in advance to CRZ and the Guru, for not just letting this one go.

TopTenPro, mellow. If you read his comments, he did commend your point about the Nature Boy. The thing is that 95% of the time, if a wrestler doesn't have a reason to be taken off of TV then he isn't. Big Show had knee surgery. The Rock does movies. Shawn Michaels was taking time off to heal and hang out with his family. The Undertaker took a vacation a couple years back and healed. We get that wrestling's worked, you don't need to waste your time and energy ranting
about it to us. We get it. We've already agreed with you.

That being said, I think that Kane will win the Til Death Do Us Part Match and take out Matt, then Shawn Michaels will return to defend Lita's honor and keep Kane busy for a couple months. And the Evolution storyline seems to be going somewhere, with the most telling part being Randy Orton being the only Evolution member NOT to rush out to interfere in the Iron Man Match two weeks ago on RAW.

Maybe I read Anti_Guy wrong. I apologize if that is the case.

If Kane were to beat Hardy, does that turn Lita heel in the HBK feud? As great of an actress as she is (LOL) would she be able to play the helpless vixen for 7 months longer?

Although Stacie is not a good actress she has the presence to play (virgin type) helpless. Lita on the other hand was doing Lita-conrodas to men a few months ago, and she ain't no virgin! Asking Lita to be the helpless one is like asking Chyna to play the role.

I can't help but wonder how they tweak this angle to tie Michaels in with Lita and Hardy, or if they even do that at all. Short of having him return as Mordecai Jr., Defender of the Sanctity of Marriage, I don't see how they get the two to crossover. Michaels already has a justification for a Kane feud, if they have an idea to include another guy they'd probably be better served letting someone else use it in two months when the Michaels feud has run it's course.

Two ways I see that one ending...either HHH squashes him and gets his revenge, or Regal interferes and Eugene gets the upset. I'm betting on the latter, partly because it really helps further a split from Evolution (with Orton winning the title later on), but mostly because it'd be a big markout moment for me to see the return of the power of the punch live.

I somehow see Matt winning the match and then getting destoyed by Kane as he interupts the nuptials on RAW two weeks later ... I think Matt will be off of TV before Shawn comes back.

I think they'll do the big Evolution Hates Each Other angle soon, so I think Eugene will get the upset when Regal stops HHH from cheating and Eugene hits the Rock Bottom for the win. Next week on RAW, Triple H goes nuts on everyone in Evolution for not having his back, and the rest of them go nuts on him for being a prick.

Now officially added to the Summerslam 2004 card:

Match 1 of the Best 3 out of 5 match series for the US title:
Booker T vs. John Cena-first guy to win 3 matches becomes the US champion. So the US title is not on the line in 10 days. There is no way this series can ever match the caliber of Booker T/Benoit best of 7 from 1998. Booker T is past his prime, and Cena while a good performer...not exactly a Benoit there.

It probably won't be TLC but this match has been added to the Summerslam card according to 411:

Mysterio, Kidman, and London vs. The Dudley (D-von, Spike, and Bubba)

So in the end, only one Smackdown! title is being defended a week from Sunday.
