What is up with the Cubs? Seriously are all thier players on the crack or something? THey are freaking out, losing thier minds and overall, falling apart. Makes me happy to, because since the start of the season, all I have heard is how great the cubs will be "once they are all healthy" Well Jethro, thats part of the game, and having people out with injuries, is all a part of the series. BTW, Pujols OWNS the Cubs.

Cards up by what? 9 1/2? THey come back from a 7-1 deficite. As much as I hate the Cards, they are on fire.

So Taguci hits a homer. Its all going the cardinals way this summer. I hope they make the World Series, so I can see the Yankees play here in person in October.

Thank you for your irrelevant opinion.

Are you seriously a Yankees fan in St. Louis? That's the most disgusting thing I've heard in some time.

The Cubs, however, do seem to be caught in a downward spiral. In their defense, though, they're still beating Houston! Remember when those were the two teams to watch in the NL Central?

Yes, I am a Yankee fan in St Louis. The wonderful Navy was nice enough to move me here years ago, and I never left. You can imagine my happiness when Tino was signed right after Mark McGuire left, only to have a couple of HORRIBLE seasons. I always make a point to wear my New York Jersey whenever I go to games. Its true, Cardinal fans are great, and passionate, but I get SO tired of having to put them in thier place whenever they try to put the Yanks down. My favorite retort is, "If the Cards won the World Series for 12 straight years, they still wouldnt be equal to the Yankees record for wins." That usually shuts them up.

Thank you for your irrelevant opinion.

The Cubs' downward spiral needs to continue, and the Cardinals need to go on one of their own. Otherwise, how in the hell can the Brewers get to the top of the NL Central1?

Of course, beating the damn Reds once in a while wouldn't hurt...

I did a W search on the Cardinals to see what everyone was saying/did say about them and I found this tidbit.

Don't you just hate those damn prediction threads that come back to bite you.

That being said, I thought exactly the same thing about the Cards, which is the REAL reason I quoted that post. The Cardinals have been a pleasant surprise, although the number of bandwagon fans around here (eastern Oklahoma) is alarming.

It sucks that my favorite three NL teams to watch are all in the same division (Cubs, Cards, Astros).

I still don't trust Carpenter, Marquis, and Suppan. Toss in Morris and Williams' inconsistancies this year, and this NL Central race could still get exciting.

All I'll say is I tried all winter long as a Sox fan who watched Hawkins for years up in MN to warn the Cubs fans. I told them there's 3 things to count on with Hawkins:

1) He will always own the White Sox. I think his career ERA against them is like 0.05 or something.

2) He is the best 8th inning man around. I don't know how anyone hits him.

3) As a closer, be prepared for the worst of Mitch Williams meets Billy Koch.

And now let me add a hearty HA HA HA HA HAHAHAHAHA! Even the Shrine is falling apart just like the team. HA HA HA!

And yes, being a Sox fan in Chicago does make one bitter.

Say what? What am I missing? Besides the fact that the Cubs suck right now.

In the last few days, fans have narrowly avoided chunks of concrete that have fallen loose and plummeted into the seating areas during games at Wrigley. The city is ordering a full inspection of the place. I of course say get the wrecking ball. Sun-Times article here (suntimes.com)

Oh, yes, that lineup of pitchers that have helped them win like 46 of thier last 68 games. Yeah, I would be worried too.

/sarcasm

They have a five gold glove candidates this season, good hitting, an MVP front runner(Pujols) a near MVP (Rolen) and, somehow, Larussa isnt messing up this year. AND a nine game lead, AND the best record in baseball. Even better than my beloved Yankees. As much as I WANT to hate them, I just cant. They are ruling people this season. I am not sure they wont collapse, but it looks very, very unlikely.

Carpenter made thirteen starts in 2002, and zero last year. I'm curious to see how that shoulder holds up. Marquis is coming up fast on his career high in innings pitched, and he spent most of last year pitching out of Atlanta's bullpen. Will he break down due to an increased workload? Jeff Suppan is Jeff Suppan. He pitched about the same for Pittsburgh last year, then got traded to Boston and stunk. Was it the pressure of the stretch run that got him in Boston? Did he just wear down? Will he fade down the stretch again this year? We'll see.

No wonder I didn't see it - there's allegations that the Tribune was covering it up!

Yes Pujols and Rolen are both MVP candidates, but I don't think Edmonds is that far off. 22 HR, 62 RBI, .280 batting average. Doesn't quite stakc up to Pujols and Rolen but how many hits and homeruns has he stolen out there in center? I'd guess probably more than anybody else, so his defense should give him a little boost too. Yeah I know, nobody cares about defense when it comes to MVP voting, but I think it should count for something. Plus he's had some nagging injuries, maybe his offensive stats will get even better the second half.

You know what I like most about the Cardinals? The fact that nobody on the team really seems to be an asshole. Everybody on that team seems excited to play on a winning team, as you should expect, but I don't get the impression that any of them think they are more important than anyone else.
